See, what I don't get is why amass a movie collection when you can watch whatever movie you want, whenever you want, without actually owning it.

Well if I own it, then no one can take away my ability to watch it save for physically stealing the disc. You also don't get the special features for shit that you download or stream.

Finally, I just like having a collection. I like to see it sit on the shelf and steadily grow.

I can understand the practical reasons, like special features.

I don't get the pleasure from seeing the collection sitting on the shelf. To me, I actually dislike amassing things, because if I need to move or something, it is more shit to mess with. In addition, it is worse with amassing technology collections, because it will be obsolete before you can get your collection up.

The obsolescence issue is a concern. I used to have a lot of movies on VHS, then had to re-buy much of that collection in DVD, and am now having to do it yet again on Blu-Ray. It's a bitch, but I accept it because you're getting something extra each time. With DVDs, you got an upgrade in picture over VHS and special features. With Blu-Ray, the technology leap isn't as great, but you are at least getting a better picture and often times new special features have also been added that aren't on the DVDs.

My guess is that Blu-Ray will be the last physical format. After this, shit's probably gonna go all-digital, but who knows.

As for Lytle I'm not looking down on him but a sports management degree,firefighter,and UFC fighter doesn't scream United States Senator to me..........just like I shouldn't expect to be become Secretary of State when finishing my degree.

I used to have a 300+ dvd collection and tons of other superfluous shit. What I've noticed as I've slowly sold/donated/thrown out the majority of my possessions, I don't fucking miss it at all.
