overall winning percentage is not a good measure since "player A" may have been 47% winner on +500 underdogs, while "player B' may have won 67% on -500 favorites. So, you fail again, please kill self for convenience.

Was meant as a joke anyway, just stating that I don't think anyone here is scared of anyone else's skills.

Your example is pure crap. Neither Vandealy was picking -500 favs all year nor was Edmann picking +500 dogs. If I had to guess I'd say their average betting line was fairly close over the year. So yes, when you have a similar average betting line you can compare player A's record to player B's.

I think that's pretty random and completely reliant on luck. I'd say let's brainstorm and see if we can come up with something where skill comes into it a bit more.

I wasn't saying it to be mean. There's more than one way to bet . Edmann,X,and poopoo for example bet many fights and try to accumulate units over the coarse of the year. Me, Zak,MMAscietist(and probably others) pick and choose what we bet and bet many less fights. Neither way is wrong I was only saying that in this instance, for this contest, having a higher win percentage is "probably" better.

I think you may find you need a more definitive tiebreaker, especially since "distance = 15/25 min", "result = decision" is such a common ending. Something like: "Pick the total number of significant strikes landed in the fight as determined by FightMetric / second poster must pick a different number than first poster / closest one wins" might work

It is indeed pretty random. I actually meant that it could be used as a very final tiebreaker, not necessarily replacing the first two things Zak mentioned.

^^ I don't have any idea what anyone bets over a period of time. For all I know Vandelay is a God at picking fights... I for one can't pick for shit and fully admit that. Just saying, I don't think anyone is really that concerned with having to face any particular person.

But the more I have thought about this contest, I think many/most of the matchups are going to come down to the tie breaker. If I don't get a special reward for picking an underdog, 80% of the time, I am going to pick the line favorite in a straight up pick-em, even if it is a slight favorite. I think maybe at -115/+115 I would go underdog more often, but I don't know if there are enough of those close fights to fill out a card. Once you get around -140, I think almost everyone is thinking the favorite is the favorite. The line might be "off" but usually not enough to make them an actual underdog.

So this is basically going to be a tie breaker competition.

I think that for tie breakers we should have to play Scrabble on Yahoo! Games.

1st tiebreaker: person who picked more underdogs?

That sounds like it could add an interesting dynamic.
