Okay, so I just watched this shit. In fact, it's the first MMA event that I missed live that I went back and watched in a LONG time.
Thoughts? Yes, I do have some. Yes, I do.
1. Takeya Mizugaki is still my boy. Glad to see him get another win and a dominant one at that. I'm glad the UFC hasn't just fed him to top guy after top guy because he'd probably have gotten cut. But he's clearly better than MOST of the roster at BW. What a strange career in the UFC so far: He has gone L-W-L-W with no variation over the course of 10 fights. He arguably should be 3-0 in his last 3, though. A lot of people thought he beat Cariaso. Then again, maybe it's karma. A lot of people also thought he lost to Curran.
2. Was kind of hoping Zhang would win, just cuz. And he got close! But alas, he's probably gone after this fight.
3. Why aren't we talking about Gomi beating Danzig? Danzig has proven himself to be a pretty solid, if not great, fighter. So I think it is a really good win for Gomi and proves that he's not done. He maybe can't compete with the top guys . . . but he's still a competent fighter who can win fights, even at the UFC level.
4. DHK executed OPERATION: Judo Rape. That is all. Oh, and Paulo Thiago is probably gonna get cut.
5. Nedkov did a lot better than I thought he would. I'm glad my bet came through but I have to give him credit. I'm just not sure why he's fighting at 205. He looks like Matt Serra out there. Seems obvious that he should be a WW.
6. CUNG fucking LE!!! GodDAMN I'm happy to see him win! I really didn't expect him to. I'm not sure he did, either. He looked SOO fucking thrilled about that shit. I also think this would be the PERFECT time for him to retire. He's 40 years old. He should go out on the biggest win of his career.
7. The Macau crowd didn't really seem to be that into it. They didn't cheer like other crowds do and they didn't really support Zhang like the Canadians support GSP or like the Brazilians support, well, ANYBODY from Brazil. They also didn't lose their mind when Cung got his KO. Weird.
8. I really wish I had gotten to see this event live. There were some good fights and it was kind of lame reading about Cung's KO before seeing it.Last edited by SPX; 11-11-2012, 10:42 PM.I heart cockComment

^^I downloaded it, only watched Le vs Franklin. I almost put 5 units on Le because I had this really weird feeling about Le leading up to this fight (even the original one at 148 where they were supposed to fight) but I pussed out and put 1 unit on him before the fight. I figured it would either be Le by TKO or Franklin by decision and I was hoping I was right about Franklin by decision so my decision prop would cash.
Anyways...
gonna watch the rest tonight/tomorrow morning. I was following twitter during the fights to see what was going on, and it sounded like Silva was losing going into the 3rd round 2-0...then there was a shit load of controversy because the judges had Silva up 2-0 on the scorecards.Comment

Watch the whole thing and post your thoughts.
I figured the Le/Franklin fight would end in a finish one way or another. I just couldn't see Le going 5 rounds, win or lose.
As for Silva, the first couple of rounds were close. Edge to Nedkov. It's not like he was dominating or anything, especially the second round. In fact, Nedkov may have been losing that round before landing a haymaker near the end that floored Silva. Doesn't matter though. Nedkov was a zombie in the third and, from what I could tell, didn't even fight the choke.
Bear in mind that I was somewhat distracted though so don't take my opinion for much.I heart cockComment

Yeah, that's an interesting case. [spoiler alert] The journalists and bettors gave round 1 to Nedkov because he was "on the outside" pressing Silva against the fence. If you look at the Fightmetric stats, you can see that Silva outlanded Nedkov 51-11 in the first round. The second round was mostly more of the same, but Nedkov landed a late KD that most people thought was sure to win him the round. Still though Silva outlanded him 45-13, and it isn't that rare for judges to go with the punch count.gonna watch the rest tonight/tomorrow morning. I was following twitter during the fights to see what was going on, and it sounded like Silva was losing going into the 3rd round 2-0...then there was a shit load of controversy because the judges had Silva up 2-0 on the scorecards.
Nedkov's got the right idea, but he needs to learn how to do more work against the fence.Comment

Anytime Miz fights a top 10 kind of dude, he loses. He lost to Torres, Jorgensen, Faber and Bowles. Any time he fights a mid-carder he wins.
The anomaly in that formula is Cariaso, but like I said a lot of people thought he should've won that fight.I heart cockComment
