That's pretty interesting. What I would like is for several fighters from various tiers on the roster to completely lay out their finances, and tell us how much they made for certain fights from disclosed pay, discrectionary bonuses, PPV revenue, sponsorships and anywhere else money might have come from. And also to tell us what their expenses were and where that money went.

I think the only way we're ever going to really know is if fighters start talking about all the money they make and where it comes from.

I'd be surprised if Cain didn't get a cut. He's been in main events and co main events now almost exclusively since 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if Cain got $4 for every PPV buy on the cards he's on, which could be a substantial amount per fight on top of his base salary, sponsorship money, and other revenues like bonuses and such. It wouldn't be at all surprising if Cain pulled in over 2 mil altogether from this last fight.

They offered eddie alvarez a ppv percentage.
Sponsor money doesn't count. The UFC doesn't pay that and other athletes get sponsor money too. Maybe he gets a PPV cut, who knows.

true but other sports have seasons that last less than 1/2 the year.

Well to be fair, he can fight more than once per year.

^^ that's pretty crazy. Cain is the HW champion of the universe, and he earns far less than the league minimum in the NBA. In 2010, the league minimum was $473k. It really is quite pathetic. I could understand it 6 or 7 years ago as the UFC was still making its way, but it gets major coverage now, it is pretty absurd how little they pay the fighters.

This should tell you something about how crappy the UFC pays fighters:

When discussing Cain Velasquez's $400K UFC purse, please recall Jack Dempsey made $1 million to fight Georges Carpentier— way back in 1919!

Because Cain is the champion. JDS made $400,000 when he defended against Velasquez at UFC155.
