Matt Serra. Yes, THE Matt Serra. That is, my ex-welterweight belt winning, GSP crushing, pasta eating, 7-7 in the UFC, 5'6" brother . . . has retired, so long as he can never get a fight at Madison Square Garden.

Whether by submission, decision or (T)KO, Matt Serra is, by all accounts, the man. He has been called many things: Legendary fighter. Unspeakably awesome coach. Enemy of Canada. But one could simply call him The Terror--his long-held nickname--for the gut-wrenching fear that opponents feel when they stand across from him in the cage.

Let us all take the day to honor Matt Serra for all he had given us -- for the highs, for the lows, for making GSP tap to strikes.

Maybe it was made beforehand. All that footage is pretty old, but cool, I thought. I really haven't seen a lot of Serra's early stuff.

Because he was awesome.

The GSP fight was really the beginning of the end of his career. He had fought plenty of guys who were highly ranked at the time early on. Even in the fights he lost he was thought to acquit himself quite well (such as the BJ Penn fight).
