The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s inaugural event in Maine has its first two bouts.
The promotion announced on Wednesday that Tim Boetsch will square off with Brad Tavares at middleweight and Shawn Jordan will meet Jack May in a heavyweight tussle. The Fight Night card will take place at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, on Aug. 16.
A native of Lincolnville, Maine, Boetsch has lost three of his last four Octagon appearances. “The Barbarian” most recently fought at UFC 172, where he was submitted by Luke Rockhold inside of a round. Tavares, meanwhile, had a five-fight winning streak halted in April, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Yoel Romero at UFC on Fox 11.
Jordan will look to rebound from consecutive first-round knockout losses to Gabriel Gonzaga and Matt Mitrione. Prior to that, “The Savage” had been victorious in three of his first four outings with the promotion. May suffered his first professional loss in eight bouts at UFC on Fox 11, as he was stopped by Derrick Lewis via TKO in the opening frame.
