When I think Hype Train I usually think of guys who appear to have a lot of potential, but haven't really proven themselves against top competition. Guys like Hendo and Mousasi have already been a lot of top guys, thus legitimizing hype into something more tangible.

I think of hype as a fighter thats been talked up so much people think he's alot better fighter than he really is .People had Mousasi a top 3 fighter at 205 and Hendo the #2 185 pounder ,neither were even close to be true

See, I don't mind hype trains. Getting on the right one can be profitable. All the protesting - "...but they haven't beaten anyone *real* yet." has resulted in the betting lines on guys like Cain, Carwin, Jones, and even Lesnar being way too low. To refer upwards to this thread - look at Jacare. Because of his talent, many of us here, me included, think he would beat Shields. But his record is nowhere near as impressive, and I think we might be able to get a good line on him because of it.

I don't think Jacare is that great to be honest, he has a pretty terrible chin. I just feel he presents a really awful style matchup for Shields.

I'm all over the Cain hype train though. I think he's the best HW in the UFC.

I agree to an extent, but should point out the "but they haven't fought anyone yet" argument is often legitimate. I think we saw it with Rumble VS Kos, for instance, and plenty of other fights. With that said, sure, plenty of guys really do break out. I think the key is being able to determine which guys are going to live up to the hype and which ones aren't, but that's no easy task.

I dunno. I remember Jacare was pretty heavily favored against Lindland, so I'm not sure what he would be against Shields. How sweet would it be to actually get him as an underdog? Unlikely, but that would be excellent.

              Sure, no disagreement there.

I think he was -270 or so against Lindland, but the results of that fight showed it should have been even steeper.

But as far as I know Mousasi had never fought a good wrestler, and that can be a different kind of fight.
