    Need a little help

One of you guys that have an online account that allows parlays.

Can you give me what the payout is for risking $100 on a two fighter parlay?

I want GSP and Penn. I dont have an online book but I will open one to make this bet. (unless I can convince my book to take parlays on fights).

It is going to depend on which book...

but you can just plug the lines in here: http://www.vegasinsider.com/parlay-calculator/

At 5dimes, they are both -800, so a $100 parlay would return $26.56

I played around with that tool you posted. at -800, I have to lay 377 to win 100.

        I will probably do that.

Good luck with that. Since they are not on the same card, you do not need to do the parlay option of course. You can just take your winnings from the GSP fight and throw them in with the original bet on Penn. Same result. No need to open a new account.

I just cant lay that number on GSP. Im gonna talk to my guy and tell him he has to start taking these from me, or Im just going online again.

            Thanks for the help.

LOL it's the exact same thing though.

You can calculate parlays without that tool as well, since generally they pay true odds.

Your $377 on GSP at -800 pays out 47.

              $377 + 47 = 424

You put the 424 on Penn at -800 and it pays out 53

              424 + 53 = 477, or 377 to win 100.

So it's the exact same thing as parlaying, except you can change your mind in between if you like.

                Re: Need a little help

                I see now.

I was thinking betting -800 on GSP, then -800 on Penn, but that would win me 200. betting the two like you said, or the parlay, either way, will win me 100.

                I got it now.

                (im the parlay n00b.)

Yeah, nothing magic about parlays. You are taking the winnings from one bet and laying it all on the next. Some sites you actually have to pay for the privilege... so it is better to do the home-made parlay.

Of course, the pay out is not any better, you are raising your bet on the second fight. You can get the same result by just betting more on one of the fights.

                    Re: Need a little help

I can think of a couple reasons for using parlays.

                    1) If you're very rich. Depending on how a given bookie does bet limits, parlays (especially on underdogs) may be a way around them, so you could pour the maximum amount of money into a fight.

                    2) If you're very precise. If you bet according to some form of Kelly formula, the solution will always include all the possible parlays. So if you bet on fighters a, b, and c on the same card, you would also have small parlays on a+b, b+c, a+c, and a+b+c. This is because you really want to bet x% of your bankroll on fighter c, but your bankroll size depends on whether you won on fighters a and b or not. So a parlay can fix that automatically.
