Personally, I'm a fan of the Karate Kid win, lose, or draw. I will say that he could've handled himself better after the first Shogun fight, though. Some of the things he said in interviews were poorly worded.

Exactly this. I was really rooting for Shogun in this fight, but I was (still am) a Machida fan before Machida/Shogun 1. It's not his fault the judges were wrong. And yeah, he said some stupid shit in his interviews regarding the judging.

Machida should've said that it was a close fight, that Shogun was a worthy opponent, and that he would be happy to fight him again if there was any question as to who was the better fighter.

Instead, he hid behind the judges and honestly just kind of acted like a bitch.

In some ways this loss may do him good. I mean, he's no longer undefeated now. He lost. He knows he can lose. He's just like any other fighter in that regard and he no longer has the pressure to maintain his perfect record.

Hopefully now he can get back to winning every round of every fight and occasionally knocking guys straight the fuck out.

Well, I guess Franklin McNeil and his sources were right, sort of. Shogun was banged up before the fight. I can see how you can mix up a knee and appendix.

TATAME: What did Dana say to you inside the octagon?

Shogun: He complimented me a lot because I had done a stomach surgery seven weeks ago, an appendicitis surgery… It was an emergency surgery, but I decided to fight. The doctor and Dana warned me not to fight, but I took my risks, said I would be fine and he was glad with my attitude and complimented me.

TATAME: Did this operation affected your training?

Shogun: I had to take almost two weeks off to recover and then I started walking so I could come back for the hard trainings, a month later.

TATAME: Did you fear it could make a difference during the fight, the conditioning part, since you lost two weeks of trainings?

Shogun: No, because I already knew I was ready and that I would have some time to recover

Appendectomy is not really a big deal these days. The only potential problem would be him missing a few weeks of training.

Sucks for Cote. Fucks his knee up fighting Silva, is out for forever, comes back to get choked out by Belcher and breaks his hand in the process, and now is out for a while again.

Okay, just rewatched Shogun/Machida here at home, while sober.

Real close fight. I actually had Lyoto winning at the time of the KO, mostly due to the two takedowns. Other than that, Shogun had landed the harder shots I think, but Lyoto had landed several as well, including two good knees.

I want a third fight. I think it'll be a good scrap and Lyoto won't have the pressure of being the champion on his shoulders.

With that said, I had to be happy for Shogun. Dude looked so fucking excited to have won and he seems like a nice guy so I can't hate. Consider I scored the first fight for him anyway I figure it's good enough that he got the belt officially, but I will officially be going for Lyoto if/when there's a rubber match.
