Re: Off topic thread(basketball,movies,etc whatever)
A joke:
A doctor from Israel says: "In Israel the medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's testicles; we put them into another man, and in 6 weeks he is looking for work!"
The German doctor comments: "That's nothing, in Germany we take part of the brain out of a person; we put it into another person's head, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work!"
A Russian doctor says: "That's nothing either. In Russia we take out half of the heart from a person; we put it into another person's chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work!"
The U.S. doctor answers immediately: "That's nothing my colleagues, you are way behind us....in the USA (about a year ago) we grabbed a person with no brains, no heart, and no balls....we made him President of the United States, and now.......the whole country is looking for work!"

I like this one better:
A man goes into the hospital for a vasectomy.
Before the procedure the nurse comes in and takes his vitals, then tells him to take all of his clothes off.
When he is fully undressed she instructs him to lie down on the table.
The man obeys.
The nurse then takes all of her clothes off, climbs on top, and has her way with him.
Upon the completion of the act the man catches his breath and asks what that was all about.
The nurse informs the patient that studies have shown that before a vasectomy if the man has an ejaculation, he will be more relaxed and that the vas is easier for the surgeon to locate and sever.
The nurse then wheels the patient to the operating room.
While they are going down the hall the patient sees six men in a room masturbating.
Curious, the man asks, "What are they doing in there?"
The nurse responds, "They are getting vasectomies too, but you have Blue Cross and they have Obama Care."
Re: Off topic thread(basketball,movies,etc whatever)
So I rolled with Dan Hornbuckle last night. He was in town and wanted to train. He is a purple belt (as am I), I thought I would be able to neutralize his guard game and maybe even beat him. From what I had seen, he has a really tricky triangle and a good kimura/hip bump sweep combo. Anyway, I thought would be competitive with him and maybe beat him.
But, no.
He whooped me pretty bad.
He is a lot lankier than I thought, he is really damn tall and extremely hard to deal with. We weight about the same, but he is just way lankier than I thought, there is no escape. Also, he is not very strong, which sort of surprised me. He looks like he has that wiry strength, but he isn't very powerful at all. Still, he is a lot better than I have been giving him credit for. He isn't Demian Maia or anything, but he has a lot of subs.
Also, super super cool guy and really down to earth. He still has a job (in some union or other) and he talked alot about his family and how he feels like a piece of shit for being away from his kids so much. He was training with ATT in Florida, but his wife and kids are in Illinois, so he quit and is training at his old bjj place in IL.
Another tidbit, he said his kids get really upset when he fights and Ben Askren's family was sitting right in front of his family when they fought. He said Askren's family was white trash and that they were lsaying stuff like "your dad sucks" to his kids after Ben beat him.
Anyway, interesting guy and a fun surprise. I get to roll with him again in a few hours.

Interesting stuff, Scientist. I don't even get surprised anymore when you say you got to meet such-and-such big name fighter. It's actually surprising how many of us here have run into this guy or that guy somewhere along the line.
Good story, too. I wonder how this will affect your breakdowns on him in the future, considering you have this unique info on him.

Poopoo, I got a question;
I notice in that vid, when you squat, the bar is like, set off your back, almost near your shoulder blades. When I do it, I have it right across the back of my neck. Any advantage the way you do it?

Askren's kids are little assholes.
Yeah it is one of the nice things about this sport, you can actually train with some of the best guys in the world... and it is pretty easy to get access to them for an interview.
As for Hornbuckle, I don't think it will affect much. I have said I think he is borderline top 10, and I still think he is. The experience was more about my place in the world than his. I thought I was as good as him on the ground when I have seen him fight. Turns out, I am not.
I don't even think Askren has kids, I think it was like his mom and gf... which makes it even worse. I don't know that it was directed to the kids so much as Dan's cheering section, which was a lto bigger than Ben's. MMA/wrestling moms are often quiet trailer-y... it wouldn't surprise me at all. I have seen fighter's moms get into it at local shows before.
