Dana White Will Cut Chuck Liddell From the UFC Before Letting Him Back Inside the Octagon

At risk of this getting sucked into the UFC 116 black hole, Dana White has apparently put his foot down with regards to Chuck Liddell's career. Mike Chiappetta of MMA Fighting has the scoop (emphasis mine):

Take note, John Hackelman. It takes a little tough love to show someone you're serious.

I think Chuck Liddell can still fight, but he'd have to take a huge step down in competition. It's clear that he's slowed to the point where he can't keep up with the top guys in the division anymore. So if he wants to fight Stephan Bonnar or Eric Schafer, so be it.

That said, Dana should be commended for his actions here. Maybe it's one fight too late. Maybe he should have taken this stand after the "Shogun" Rua fight. But if Dana White is serious about not being complicit in Liddell's downfall, this is the only move he can really make. He can't hold Chuck's hand, but he sure as hell can keep from leading the lamb to the wolves.[/quote:2lfx9w6x]

LOL. Everyone I talk to who doesn't even know jack shit about MMA still knows who Chuck Liddell is. People who don't watch MMA AT ALL know who he is. The UFC marketed him so fucking hard that his name will not be forgotten for God knows how long. Because of this, why the hell would Dana release Chuck to go fight in Strikeforce or Bellator? He can still sell PPVs and gain viewers. Releasing Chuck and letting him fight in another organization would be a TERRIBLE move. IMO, I think Dana will realize that and have to let Chuck get knocked the fuck out as many times as he wants to in the UFC until he decides to retire himself. Dana's not going to cut him. Letting Chuck get knocked the fuck out in the UFC is much better for the UFC and Dana than letting Chuck get knocked the fuck out in Strikeforce and Bellator.

Wrong .If you are Liddell's friend you cut him to show him you really believe he needs to stop fighting and someday Liddell will appreciate that you were a friend and really looking out for him. If you're his freind you dont care about the money

Oh, I know. They're friends and have been for a long time. But this is still Dana White we're talking about.

Seriously though, I could imagine him being released to fight elsewhere if he wants, but I can't see him ending up in Strikeforce. Either Dana wouldn't let him do that, or he wouldn't do that to Dana.
