That really is pathetic. Cruz is their champion- he is only guaranteed $11,000. If he fights twice a year, he can make the same amount as a cashier at Mcdonalds. If he is injured, well, I guess he is screwed.

Mendes only gets paid $5500 to show. I mean, I am a true free market believer, but I have to believe that the market will bear more than $11k for your champion.

I made more money than Paixao last night.

There is a real incentive for these guys to take a dive... I bet it is way more common than we imagine. I am going to talk to some of these dudes and see if they are interested in taking a dive. I will keep you posted.

If was getting paid $3k to train and fight... and some asshole (me) offered me and additional $1k to win by decision only... I would do that. If they offered me 10K to lose, I would do that too.

Cruz must have been locked into a contract before he won the belt. And while his base pay should be more, I can assure you as champ that he makes decent money. Endorsements alone will pay more than his base pay.

Why doesnt the WEC do an ultimate fighter show on Versus? They just need to get more eyes on these guys. The WEC is better than the UFC IMO. The little guys always bring it.

The problem with that reasoning is that it doesn't make long-term sense. The goal is to get high enough in the division to make some real money and that's impossible to do if you keep taking losses for one-time payouts.

Does anyone know how much fighters get from endorsements? Any examples? I have always wondered this. Especially the guys that get 5k to fight.
