Trevor Prangley-Keith Jardine Sept. 11 Shark Fights 13

Keith Jardine will get his first post-UFC challenge in promotional champion Trevor Prangley when they meet in a light heavyweight non-title bout at Shark Fights 13 on Sept. 11 in Lubbock, Texas, Sherdog.com has confirmed through both fighters’ camps.

"I'm looking forward to getting back in the cage after my last feeble performance," Prangley told Sherdog.com on Tuesday. "Keith is a super tough opponent and a real nice guy. It's good to see Shark Fights getting the higher caliber fighters and putting on consistently better shows."

The 37-year-old Prangley will look to bounce back from a first-round submission loss at the hands of Tim Kennedy at Strikeforce “Live” on June 16 in Los Angeles. The South African Olympic wrestling alternate, who resides in Couer D’Alene, Idaho, touts wins over Chael Sonnen, Jeremy Horn and Travis Lutter. Prangley earned the Texas promotion’s 205-pound title via first-submission over Marcus Sursa at Shark Fights 7 in November 2009.

Jardine was cut from the UFC following four straight defeats, including a majority decision loss to Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter 11” Finale on June 19 in Las Vegas. The 34-year-old Greg Jackson-trained fighter holds notable wins over former divisional champions Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, but has suffered knockout losses in two of his last three bouts. Jardine had fought for the UFC since 2005, when he became a member of “The Ultimate Fighter” season 2 cast.

Sherdog.com has been told that the event will get a U.S. pay-per-view run from the upstart Texas promotion, which has banked impressive 10,000-plus attendance figures for its last couple of shows. Shark Fights is expected to make an announcement regarding the event, which will include additional marquee names, shortly.

    Jardine "should" take that one.

Prangley is pretty damn good. He is exactly the type of guy who beat Jardine... Heavy handed wrestler with a good chin.

The x-factor is that Prangley has been fighting at 185, and Jardine is kind of a big LHW. Still I wouldn't sleep on Prangley here.

        Good point:

All that said, I would never lay a cent on Jardine again no matter who he is fighting.

Houston Alexander vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou added

With Keith Jardine and Trevor Prangley already signed on for the main event of the Texas-based Shark Fights' promotion Sept. 11 event, Shark Fights 13, another pair of high-profile fighters have agreed to fight on the card.

Shark Fights officials today announced that UFC veterans Houston Alexander (10-6) and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (9-6) will meet in the evening's co-main event.

The full fight card for Shark Fights 13, which takes place at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas, will be announced shortly.

"We are very excited to have Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander as our co-main event on the Shark Fights 13 card," Shark Fight Promotions president Brent Medley stated in today's release. "Both fighters have impressive knockouts on their records and have thrown down with a long list of tough, notable opponents. This will be no different.

"This is a very important fight for both fighters and a great opportunity for them to prove to the fans that they are still top contenders in the sport. Be prepared for a full on battle between Sokoudjou and Alexander on Sept. 11!"

Alexander is perhaps best-known for his 2007 knockout of Jardine at UFC 71. The Nebraska native followed that up with a UFC 75 win over Alessio Sakara. After those spectacular wins, Alexander suffered four disappointing defeats in the octagon and was released by the organization.

Alexander was then defeated by current UFC heavyweight Joey Beltran under the 5150 Combat League banner, but "The Assassin" bounced back with a win over David Griffin in June.

"I am very impressed with the caliber of fighters on the Shark Fights 13 card, and I'm honored to be part of the event," Alexander stated. "I'm ready to step into the cage, put on a great show for the fans, and add another win to my record."

Meanwhile, Sokoudjou has competed under the UFC, PRIDE, DREAM and Strikeforce banners. The Team Quest product burst onto the scene in 2007 with shocking back-to-back upsets of Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira that had many MMA observers claiming the Cameroonian was among the sport's best fighters.

"The African Assassin" has since battled through mixed results, though he's currently riding a two-fight winning streak after victories in Australia and Abu Dhabi.

"Shark Fights has put together a very impressive fight card that MMA fans will want to see," Sokoudjou stated. "I'm expecting to step into the cage to face Houston Alexander in front of a packed crowd. Alexander better be ready, because I plan to go undefeated in 2010."

Broadcast plans of Shark Fights 13 have yet to be announced.

Daley Joins Sept. 11 Shark Fights Roster

Paul Daley has been added to the line-up of Shark Fights 13 on Sept. 11 at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas, the promotion confirmed to Sherdog.com on Monday.

An opponent for the heavy-handed British striker is being finalized, said Shark Fights President and Matchmaker Brent Medley. Daley has signed to Shark Fights for one fight, per the promotion’s standard contracts.

Daley was an attraction on the U.K. circuit for years until he was picked up for a co-promoted EliteXC-Strikeforce event in 2007. In 2009, Daley gained notice in the UFC welterweight division with back-to-back knockout wins against Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett. The run earned the 27-year-old fighter a fight with Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 in May for No. 1 contendership and a coaching role on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter 11.”

Koscheck out-wrestled Daley to a unanimous decision nod. The Nottingham, England, native lost control of his emotions afterward and decked Koscheck after the final bell, to which UFC President Dana White promptly released Daley from his contract. At this time, Daley is still awaiting an official suspension notice from the Quebec Boxing Commission/Montreal Athletic Commission.

However, Medley said he’d spoken with Daley’s attorney, as well as the Texas Combative Sports Program -- which will oversee the Sept. 11 event -- and believed that the fighter’s lingering suspension with the Canadian commission “wouldn’t be a problem.”

"I'm very excited to be fighting in the U.S. again," said Daley in a press release. "Despite my conduct during the Koscheck fight, which I agree is inexcusable; fans in the United States have been very supportive. For that I am very grateful."

Most recently, Daley notched a third-round submission win over Daniel Acacio at Impact Fighting Championship 2 on July 18 in Sydney, Australia.

Shark Fights 13 will be co-headlined by two light heavyweight bouts. In the main event, promotional champion Trevor Prangley will face former UFC staple Keith Jardine, while 2001 U.S. judo champion Rameau Thierry Sokjoudou will meet Nebraskan striker Houston Alexander at second billing.

                            Dave Herman -Aaron Rosa added

Dave Herman has signed a one-fight contract to face Aaron Rosa in an undercard heavyweight bout for Shark Fights 13 on Sept. 11 at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas, Sherdog.com has confirmed.

The 25-year-old Herman is suing Bellator Fighting Championships for allegedly breaching a six-fight, 30-month contract that he terminated in December 2009 after the promotion failed to give him two fights within a year’s time.
