It seems to be a clever and logical deduction. . .

If it's true Cole's never really been on the bottom, then maybe it's worth taking into consideration.

A few observations. . .

1. I can't fucking believe Konrad is only 26. Seriously. He's younger than me. I thought that guy was like 35 or something. He looks much older.

2. His opponent is 9-1. That alone is enough to make me not bet on Konrad, when Konrad didn't looked good against the then 1-0 Pat Bennett.

3. Konrad's going to be bigger. He's a true 265 lber. His opponent is only like 236.

4. Konrad has shitty cardio. He could get outworked if this other guy has a good gas tank.

5. Konrad's opponent has no wins via KO, which is I think is where he is most vulnerable (on the feet). So at least if you're contemplating a bet that should be some consolation.

^^ Arm triangles are implemented from top position, or from a front headlock or top of half guard (for a d'arce or anaconda- which are also really just arm triangles). The arm triangle I think they are talking about is the one from side control, like Brock used on Carwin.

But I don't think you can draw that conclusion (that he is a top control specialist). Most bjj guys prefer to have top position... so the fact that he was on top doesn't mean that is his only offense. Maybe he swept to get there. Maybe the other guy bailed out of top because he was caught in a triangle... who knows.

That said, they are heavyweights, and I would be surprised to see Cole get out maneuvered on the mat. His opponent did compete in ADCC last year, but he lost his first match to the winner of the weight class (Werdum)... here is the match with Werdum:

He gets taken down by Werdum at 3:32. He (Rogent) gets stuffed a couple time before that on shots. Werdum passes his guard at 4:07, about 40 seconds after the TD. Werdum takes back mount at 5:11.

Werdum goes for an armbar at 7:07 and gets reversed to guard. Rogent spends the rest of the fight defending, he never passes. Werdum wins about 18-0.

I have never seen that before just now. Rogent played a lot of turtle, his guard looks pretty weak. Compare Werdum's guard to his in the match. He gave up his back alot.

Cole is probably going to hold him down and beat the shit out of him with his boobs and ham-fists.

Cole is a solid bet IMO, based on the grappling. The X-factor is that I don't know about Rogent's striking. And Cole likes to gas out.

All valid points. But after watching the ADCC match, Werdum got the TD on his first attempt, and LLorent was never able to escape. Cole should have that takedown if he wants it. His top control is not going to be as fluid as Werdum's, but I bet it is a lot more crushing. I am actually considering Cole now.

I watched a few more of his grappling matches, he is definitely way better on top. He is pretty tall and uses it to maintain mount and back control. He is probably even long enough to keep Cole's back if he could get on top. But since his sweeps and submissions from bottom are not very strong, I doubt he will ever get the chance.
