Yeah the judges need to be better. It wouldn't hurt to adjust the scoring system to .5's though. It would allow the judges to be more precise with their scores.

They can be more precise right now. 10-8 and 10-7 exist for a reason. However, if the half point system removes the stigma associated with 10-8s, then sure, why the hell not. The problem is that half the time the judges can't even decide which guy won the round at all, so what good is giving them more ways to fuck up going to help?

Also, Doc Hamilton's system is more than just half points. The 4th judge or 'table judge' who scores objective criteria in the event of a draw is just bizarre.

The half-point system has been used in kickboxing for ages, and a lot of judges who have used it say that going back to the 10-point-must system is very frustrating.

If judges were more willing to give 10-10s and 10-8s then that would at least be better, but they're not going to do it. Apparently everyone was very satisfied with the half-point system at the CAMO bouts, though.

Dana is the only person I've seen say Penn should have won the fight . About 65% of the people I see say Fitch won and 35 % say a draw was fine,no one is saying Penn won from what I've read

I rewatched the fgiht ,BJ didnt win rd 2.He spent the first 2:30 of the round getting taken down and planted against the cage and spent the last 1:00 getting GnP on the floor .

The only thing BJ did in rd 2 was get a TD that he did nothing with and got reversed quickly, that doesnt win you a round imo

Yep, the only other thing was that he drew blood from Fitch's nose. So those people who base the round on whose face looked worse would give it to Penn.

I could have this wrong, but I think they said on Beatdwon after the Bell that they didn't have the same three judges for all the fights. I didn't realize they ever did things that way. It might explain some of the apparent inconsistencies.

The California MMA Athletic Organization debuted a half-point scoring system for the amateur bouts at the Diaz vs Cyborg event. This is basically a trial run to get it considered for pro bouts.

If it comes to be, it will fix a lot of these problems.

I think the sport is too dynamic to have too much specificity. Also if the problem is the judges (it is) then that's going to be the problem regardless of how specific the rules are. They aren't able to follow them as is, how are they going to remember more details?

Although yes, there could be a touch more clarity to those definitions.

I haven't rewatched it yet, but I get the feeling I'll agree with you. 10-10 at least. He did have Fitch's back for a bit in round 2 though, I remember.
