It does say that in the intro, but down in his grappling credentials, it is not there. I will have to look at the IBJJF website. I really don't know. I didn't follow it back then.

As for Cael, I hadn't really heard about it, no one is talking about it for some reason. I suspect he reached his coaching goal by winning the national championship, and now he needs a ew goal. That's how a lot of these hyper competitive goal oriented types are. I haven't heard that he is going to take a break from coaching. The coaches get workouts in in the room anyway. He is probably on the mat everyday with his guys. Every team he coached, there would be one awesome guy right around his weight, probably from wrestling with Cael all the time.

It's true that that was the average lifespan, but only because many, many children died in infancy. If you made it past that stage, you were likely to live a fairly long life, perhaps even into your 70s or beyond.

And you're right. I think in the past it was often looked upon as the man's role to marry a much younger female. The husband role was different. At that time, in large part, husbands were half husband (as we think of them today) and half father. It wasn't looked at as weird or perverted, but you had to know it was your job to protect and provide for that bitch.

Average age at marriage is one of those things that varies enormously with culture. In some cases, the political concerns of marriage alliances between dominant families takes precedence over all other issues. So among the common classes, you might have not have people getting married at the extremely young age (or with large age differences) that you did between nobles.

It's even more extreme in the Game of Thrones book; all the characters are 2 years younger. But Danerys as a 14 year old probably wouldn't have gone too well on television...
