You're right, I am sure Dan doesn't make THAT much, but I am sure he makes more than me and most other people. Not that this means that he doesn't need or deserve the money, I am sure he does and I don't blame him for trying to go to bat for his kid (although, it comes off less as a life saving measure and more of a "help get me out of debt" measure). Still, there are others that are probably quite a bit more needy, and if I were going to donate (I probably still won't though), I would not make my decision on who is a fighter and who is not.2012: +19.33

Apparently not everything is covered by the state, though:
In December 2010, a Shooto Brazil event was held, with all of its earnings going towards Will Ribeiro's treatment. The representative of Shooto Brazil, André Pederneiras, decided to hold the event to raise funds towards Will's cranioplasty surgery. In May 2011, Will underwent a successfully cranioplasty surgery. Ribeiro is back to the fighting world, acting as a boxing instructor and a cageside referee. Will Ribeiro also works with social projects in the city of Rio de Janeiro, teaching boxing lessons for impoverished youth.I heart cockComment

I don't really know the system down there, I cannot imagine it is very good. I know they have a private healthcare system too, so the free one must be pretty shitty if people are still willing to pay for care.
Still, I don't tend to donate to causes just because a "famous" person is involved. I would rather help out someone who is being overlooked (in theory-- in reality I help no one).2012: +19.33

"I feel like I’ve cleaned my soul. I really needed a good performance, a regular one. I’m a victorious athlete. I’ve always had a victorious career, had some losses, which is something that happens, but my crew is awesome. They guys don’t leave me, they got my back. You guys are the reason I’m here today. Thanks’ God I’m no longer doing it for the money. I do it for the pleasure. You are the reason I got motivations, you are my gas ... Anderson is phenomenal. He came here, helped me find his timing, because now he’s a superstar and for him to find some time to help me is hard (laughs). He went there and trained with me. Thank you. I’m sure that, like I cheer on your bouts, I know you also cheered for me. Let’s represent well and let’s see if you use this strength. It’s like Spider Man says: the more strength you have, the more responsibilities you have. So let’s see if we help the younger athletes to have the same opportunities we had to show our work to the world."
