I saw the first Twilight movie just out of morbid curiosity... I really really do not understand the fascination. Seemed really shitty and cheesy to me, like a vampire soap opera for pre-teens. Just bad. I feel the same wat about Harry Potter, I only saw one and I just watched and asked myself "WTF was that? and Why do people like it?"

Both of those franchises would be worse than the Fast and Furious franchise, but I give them a little more latitude because I think they are supposed to be for kids (they can't help that adults are so stupid that they like them too).

My reason for watching was similar. It had gotten to the point where everyone had seen it but me so I figured I should check it out so I could have some idea of what the fuck people were talking about.

I thought Twilight just wasn't great, but I think there are some redeeming qualities regarding Harry Potter. I've only seen the first one, and while I didn't think it was great, I did think it was a serviceable fantasy film.

BTW, I just ordered that Shotokan Art of War DVD set.

Shit was advertised as 22.95 British pounds. I figured that would be like $28. It was more like $36. Fucking weak ass dollar.

Harry Potter is a coming-of-age tale. The first few are childish because the characters are young. The further it goes along it gets fucking dark as shit. It's actually really fucking epic and you fags can make fun of me all you want. It's awesome.

I enjoyed all the Harry Potter books, even while thinking Rowling is a mediocre writer at best.

As far as the movies go, the Rotten Tomatoes scores:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 - 96%
Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - 26%

Does a pretty good job of explaining my relative interest.

(And isn't Twilight basically about a 1000-year-old guy who bangs a teenager? I guess the excellent "Let the Right One In", might have been also, but Eli was supposed to be creepy.)

Rowling is engaging, at least. I haven't read the Twilight books, maybe Meyer is as well.

I've only seen the first Twilight movie, and yeah that was my main thing. Why is this 100 year old dude going to high school and creeping on teenage chicks? At the end he's like "you don't want to miss out on the good parts of prom" or something and all I could think was 'yeah you'd know you creepy fucker, you go every goddamn year.'

Yeah, even Robert Pattinson thinks the Edward / Bella relationship is fucked up: http://robertpattinsonwho.com/?p=6540

And your comment reminded me of the "underage drinking" episode of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" which I think was probably the show's funniest. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Actually, the 100 yr. old vampire banging the teenager seems quite realistic to me. He is still a dude(sort of). Doubt he would be looking for seniors to bang. I am ashamed to admit that I liked the first twilight. But the next 2 sucked.

They realize their bar is teeming with underage high school students. They decide to continue serving them and end up getting mixed up with the school students socially, including getting prom dates (with associated drama).

Just goes to show you that what really creeps people out is not actually an age difference, but an old, decrepit looking dude getting it on with a nubile young lass.

And you're right, Let the Right One In was great.
