According to MMA Junkie, Sonnen vs Akiyama was supposed to happen at UFC 128.

Chael Sonnen has reportedly had his UFC contract ‘frozen’ while he deals with issues outside the cage.

According to gossip website TMZ, in a story that has since been taken down from the site, UFC top brass feel Sonnen needs time to address his legal issues arising from a 2006 real estate transaction.

"Chael Sonnen has gone through a lot in the last few months and we think it's important for him to focus on getting his personal life together before focusing on his career in the UFC," White was quoted as saying.

"I spoke with Chael earlier today and he agrees that setting priorities in his life is the best thing for him right now. I sincerely hope Chael is able to straighten out his personal life."

Sonnen has entered a guilty plea on a single charge of money laundering and will be sentenced in March. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years but the prosecution is recommending two years of probation for Sonnen.

Fighters Only has attempted to contact key parties regarding news of Sonnet’s ‘suspension’ from the UFC but has had no reply at time of publication.

He had been prematurely announced as facing Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 128 in March. The fight was to take place ten days before sentence will be passed on him. That fight - which was never signed anyway, only mooted - will not now be happening
