Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

      June 19, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

      XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Hoosier Park has a 15-race card, and the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 12. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 12% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 12 (10:33 PM EDT)

4-Master Swan (9/2)-The field is camera shy but this 3-year-all may have found a group to beat. Has cashed small checks in stake events and Trace Tetrick should be aggressive when the wings fold.
8-Trump The Warrior (8-1)-Slow starter was able to catch the leader down the lane and now steps up. Should be a nice price and could be the best down the lane again if in striking range at the head of the stretch.
10-Ponda Bugatti (5-1)-Team Wrenn entry was bet down to 1/9, didn't disappoint and now steps up. The rail horse has some gate speed and could get sucked around and make one big move to roll by.

      Race 13 (10:56 PM EDT)

6-General Grant (9/5)-The General has hit the board in 3 of 5 races at HoP but is winless, and is still 9/5 against this crew. This is the fastest horse, and it probably isn't close but is risky. Has broken stride in 1 race this year, but if not, should have his way with this bunch.

      Race 14 (11:19 PM EDT)

1-Odds On Brahmastra (3-1)-Drops to a more comfortable level and drawing the rail could make a winning difference. Peter Wrenn should work an efficient trip and could take its 1st picture in 2025.
2-This JK Rocks (5/2)-This will be the 3rd start off the bench and did race better last week. The Erv Miller pupil also gets class relief and should be in the hunt in what could be a chalky race.

      Race 15 (11:42 PM EDT)

1-Gullfaxi (6-1)-The Essig trainee has had issues this year, continues to drop and could be at the right level for success. Raced wide last week and tried but didn't have enough juice down the lane. Could get a smoother trip and keep coming to the wire.
5-Native's Filou (2-1)-East coast invader ships in from Ocean Downs and lands in the Tyler George barn. Not loving the small price but has good speed. Trace Tetrick can work a smooth trip and hopefully the veteran will like the long stretch.
10-Goodness Graycious (5-1)-Started from this post last time and was used off the gate to get a decent seat but faded later in the mile. Drops and John DeLong could follow the rail horse off the gate. Needs a cozy trip to post an overdue win and that could happen at a solid price.

      $1 Late Pick 4

      4,8,10/6/1,2/1,5,10
      Total Bet=$18

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Hawthorne - Race #1
#1 Game Santa Not much by way of finishing form on paper here, so I'm hoping this guy gets outrun a touch early and finds a way to plug along late past some of these.
#2 Humor's Image Forward player doesn't always quit too hard, and that's at least a mild endorsement in a spot like this. Could see it.
#5 Double Burn He draws well to be the attacking pace while dropping in class, but I just worry that he's going to be a short price with some late vulnerability again.
Race Summary Game Santa goes first out in a soft spot, so take a look at him ahead of this. A fresh face could do the trick in the opener.
        Hawthorne - Race #4
#6 Plunder He's capable of something better here than he showed last time around, and I think the race shape may be fair enough to give him a chance to kick home from off the pace.
#5 Fast Jack Speed is never a sure thing late -- he can stop pretty hard at times -- but he's got some lines on his page that would make him a handful. He's not going to surprise anyone second off the bench, but I'm not all that trusting.
#7 Indyville He could be pressing the speed the whole way from the outside, and a first-over kind of run could make him the one to reel in through the lane.
Race Summary Plunder has shown some pretty reliable finishing form, and I expect that he'll rebound from a no-show effort behind a high-ceiling winner last out.
        Hawthorne - Race #6
#7 Misty Sunday Not totally sure how she's going to stack up here off the romping Mountaineer special weight score late last year, but she's got some committed pace in a spot where she can force the issue while drawn outside of the other speed.
#4 Rumbrandt She's got a chance to drill these on the drop, but I assume she's going to be a short kind of price while bringing some form that has gone a touch flat in her last few starts. I don't know...
#1 Ice N Lemon Think one of those even types of efforts on her page may be enough to land a share if a couple of the forward players start to come back late.
Race Summary Misty Sunday looks interesting enough after turning in a big effort by her standards to score in December in West Virginia. Willing to give her a look as the prompting pace today.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Delaware Park - Race #1
#8 IMMORTAL J (6-1) Blew past the odds-on choice at 6F in local audition, taken to repeat.
#7 KAZ CREED (7-2) Three-time beaten fave can maximize his speed on drop below claim level.
#5 SIR MENDEL (4-1) Plagued by troubled starts, class relief could be the answer.
Race Summary IMMORTAL J has done the least wrong in a field that is a combined 8-for-99. He just kicked away from the 2-to-5 favorite to break his maiden at this level in his first Delaware go-round and hails from a 28-percent ‘repeat’ barn. Bet to win and place and play a 5-7-8 exacta box.
          Delaware Park - Race #2
#4 HANDSOME LINC (7-2) Has all the ingredients for a winning debut run, money likely to show.
#6 NAYMAR (5-2) Trainer Gary Capuano is on 18-52 run with 2yos and 9-23 with first-time starters.
#3 RAGING CAJUN (9-5) Gate works must have been good to be tabbed as morning-line choice.
Race Summary HANDSOME LINC will try to follow in the footsteps of his dam, Mainstay, who romped first-out at Saratoga by 7-1/2 lengths and ran second in the Grade 3 Schuylerville next out. He has a solid workout slate over the track for a top-notch barn with 2-year-olds. Bet to win and place and play 7-3, 7-5 and 7-6 exactas.
          Delaware Park - Race #5
#1 LADY DE BERRY (6-1) Well-prepped for her return to the allowance ranks in a new barn.
#8 DISTANT WINNER (8-1) G-3 winner in South Africa looks to recapture top form off 16-month layoff.
#11 GOLDEN ROCKET (3-1) Just missed a from similar post on the stretch-out in distance.
Race Summary LADY DE BERRY goes from one top barn to another to resume her lightly-raced career. She was Grade 3-placed as a 2-year-old but 0-for-3 last year. She was last seen in August on the Aqueduct lawn, earning her top speed figure despite early trouble. She finished 4 lengths behind third-place finisher Dynamic Pricing, who sprung a 10-1 upset in the Grade 1 Just A Game stakes earlier this month. Bet to win and place and play a 1-8-11 exacta box.

                # 1 HAPPY OUR SPECIAL 9/2
CORONA123 is the best wager in this race. Is worth careful consideration and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figures (69 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Should come out sharp - I have liked the way this gelding has moved sharply to the front end recently. Could beat this group given the 75 speed rating earned in his last outing. HOTTY FIVE BAR - Could provide positive profits based on very good recent Equibase speed figs with an average of 68. Posted a strong Equibase Speed Figure in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. HAPPY OUR SPECIAL - This filly has posted some nice finishes in her last couple of efforts. Has raced soundly in short races.

                  Gulfstream Park - Race #3 - Post: 1:50pm - Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $28,000 Class Rating: 71

                  Rating:

                  #6 SPEIGHTFULELECTION (ML=7/2)
                  #3 KILKENNY BELLA (ML=15/1)
                  #4 DERBY EFFORT (ML=15/1)

SPEIGHTFULELECTION - Was in a $25,000 Claiming race at Gulfstream Park last out. That event had a class rating of 82 and she is moving down in this race. A certain win candidate. This filly is utmost in earnings per race. Check out this animal before the race. KILKENNY BELLA - Dropping in class rating points from her April 10th race at Gulfstream Park. Based on that valuable data, I will give this thoroughbred the advantage. Getting a weight break of 7 pounds from last race at Gulfstream Park on Apr 10th. Should make the difference right here. Lizardi is hoping to get a little more out of this mare by adding blinkers today. DERBY EFFORT - This filly should give a good showing of herself in today's affair.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #5 DIALITHIC (ML=1/1), #1 HOLDER CLOSE (ML=4/1), #7 EVANORA (ML=5/1),

DIALITHIC - May 17th is the last time we've seen this filly around. Have to be a little bit leery. Don't think this entrant will make an impact in today's race. That last speed fig was mediocre when compared with today's class rating. HOLDER CLOSE - The speed rating in the last race doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's affair. Mark this horse as a likely underpriced equine. EVANORA - Awfully hard to wager on this mount when she hasn't been showing any indications of eagerness of late.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #6 SPEIGHTFULELECTION on the win end if we get at least 7/2 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,4,6]

BIG EVEREST (GB) supports the bet in here. His 103 average has this gelding with among the strongest speed figures for this event. Decent gamble today with second time Lasix. He looks very strong in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. STRONG QUALITY - Casse has this gelding running well and is a formidable choice based on the very strong speed figures posted in route races recently. Could go off at a nice number and has some positive angles going for him. MASTER PIECE (CHI) - Solid average speed figures in turf route races make this racer a key contender. Change in Lasix (on Lasix) may be the recipe to a major improvement.

                      Woodbine - Race #4 - Post: 4:27pm - Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $52,400 Class Rating: 75

                      Rating:

                      #8 PURRFECT GIRL (ML=6/1)
                      #3 MISS SAUGERTIES (ML=4/1)

PURRFECT GIRL - When Flores and Drexler join forces on horses the return on investment has been fabulous at +39. Flores is up for another contest today after riding aboard this horse for the 1st ride on May 22nd and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. Have to give this filly a fair chance. Ran a solid effort last race out within the last 30 days. On May 22nd this filly shipped in to take the top prize and looks good right back. MISS SAUGERTIES - Vives rode this racer for the first time last race out and comes right back today. Vassilieva drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more handicapping info to figure that this horse should have a chance to win at this level.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #4 LOGISTICS (ML=3/1), #1 POETIC AMY (ML=7/2), #2 SERENADING AMAYA (ML=8/1),

LOGISTICS - Didn't finish in the money on Feb 28th at Oaklawn Park. Followed it up with another lackluster performance. POETIC AMY - The speed rating in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this horse as a likely underpriced equine. SERENADING AMAYA - Really had to show me lots more last out. Never made much of an impact. No value in investing on this racer. Probably won't improve off that June 1st contest.
