Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    June 20, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card featuring the Eliminations for the Messenger Stakes. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Thirsty Thursday (2-1)-Oakes pupil towers over the field in career earnings and the 3-year is 1 for 2 this year. Does well on smaller ovals and can get the top without issue here. Favors getting on the point and making every call a winning one. That could happen, will respect but not single and look to another with more value.
5-World Of Wishes (6-1)-Didn't have the smoothest journey on 6-10 and Dexter Dunn gets the call. Should offer a solid price, has gate speed and a 2-hole trip is a possibility.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

3-Chulo (2-1)-Comes off even efforts against better and did cash small checks. From this post and at this level Jason Bartlett should get away close to the leader. Its typical plan is to come off cover, unless the trip is bumpy, that will happen and a picture will follow.

    Race 9 9:25 PM EDT)

3-Kat (6-1)-This is a taffy pull, and the entire 8-horse field have combined for 7-wins this year. Kat has won 3 of 11 at Yonkers and against this kind should be in the hunt at the wire. Comes off a dull effort after dropping to this level but did come off a sick scratch. This time comes right back instead of 27 days and will look for a big try against a suspect bunch.
6-Mc Angel (3-1)-This year has been rough after winning 9 of 24 races in 2024. Was facing $50k claimers in April, and this will be the 2nd start since 4-22. Brent Holland could be aggressive off the gate and try to make every call a winning one.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

2-Jimmy Connor B (3-1)-This is another race without much form. Stayed inside last time versus this kind and cashed a 3rd place check. Did go the back half in 55.4, tonight George Brennan should land on top or in the 2-hole when the wings fold. Camera shy DiDomenico trainee is a trip-out win candidate.
3-Warrior For Truth (4-1)-The Mark Ford barn doesn't win often but when teamed with Jason Bartlett they post 25% winners. Ships in from Pocono and this is the 3rd start off a sick scratch. Can post the 3rd win this year if racing near the leader turning for the wire.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,5/3/3,6/2,3
    Total Bet=$16

Monmouth Late Pick 3 | Friday, June 20

      June 20, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      MONMOUTH PARK LATE PICK 3
      Friday, June 20, 2025

You have to do some work to get there, but Monmouth Park’s late Pick 3 this Friday, June 20, will be the final step to unlocking the Jackpot Pick 6 and Pick 5 wagers that start earlier on the card and feature carryover pools in excess of $10,000. Here’s a closer look:

MTH 6th race (4:20 p.m. EST) -- SHEZA BERNARDINI loomed boldly with a 3-wide bid alongside the favored entry-mates two starts back, but she tired badly in the Aqueduct stretch on a day when five long-distance races were won from on or near the lead. She gets another upgrade after the race produced two next-out winners and an allowance runner-up with average 62 Beyers. She was no threat in a fast-paced follow-up but like her chances today on the class drop for new connections. It’s “go on” or “go bust” with today’s Pick 3 solo play.

MTH 7 race (4:45 p.m. EST) -- Go deep in this turf allowance route, with several fillies and mares arriving from various venues in good form. Maryland invader CHANTILLY ROAD rallied to finish a ‘game’ second off a nine-month layoff at one mile. OBEISSANTE rallied past two next-out winners despite not changing leads while 7-wide in the stretch two back at Gulfstream Park. She then tested stakes company but was bumped into the first turn and did not factor. MADAME MISCHIEF awaited running room while tracking a slow pace and just missed at one mile. She is 10 of 14 in the money on turf but 0-8 at 1-1/16 miles. Leading trainer Chad Brown sends out COMPETITIVE MARKET, a wire-to-wire maiden breaker with first-time Lasix, for her seasonal debut and KADENA, who won first out at Tampa Bay Downs, then chased fast fractions while wide in a $50,000 optional claimer at 6-1/2F on the main track. KADENA’S dam was a stakes-winning grass sprinter. Don’t forget to use ANY PORT if she draws in off the also-eligible list.

MTH 8th race (5:15 p.m. EST) -- GET LIKE MIKE ‘dug in’ to earn the place spot and the top speed figure of his career while no match for class plunging, 1-to-5 winner English Painter (16/5-4-0), who surpassed $100,000 in earnings with a next-out romp in an open $6,250 claiming route race. INBOUND, first or second in 4 of 6 starts at this distance, ran second to English Painter at 29-1 odds after he steadied on the first turn and rallied in mid-stretch. GAMBLIN CZAR rallied behind the dueling favorites and got up to finish second in a four-horse field at this distance. He is eligible for this easier condition by less than two weeks and gets ample pace flow to win off the claim. Use longshot CRAFTY DON on the ticket despite his dull recent form. He enters a new barn and has two good route races to summon on a fast track at Monmouth last summer.

      Suggested $1 Ticket
      MTH 6th Race: 4
      MTH 7th Race: 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 (Use #11 Any Port if she draws in)
      MTH 8th Race: 4, 5, 6, 7
      Cost: $20

Scott Shapiro: Gulfstream Park Spot Plays - Friday, June 20, 2025

        June 19, 2025 | By Scott Shapiro

The action continues in South Florida on Friday afternoon with a 9-race card at Gulfstream Park that kicks off at 12:50 PM eastern. In addition to the everyday wagering menu in Hallandale Beach, Xpressbet and 1ST/BET are offering up a trio of Money Back Specials. Just register on the promotional landing page to earn a chance to get up to $10 back on your first Win bet in select races if they finish second or third. Here are the runners I am interested in assuming their price remains at or above their morning line offering.

        Race 2:

The first Money Back opportunity comes in this MSW event for 2YOs sprinting over the Gulfstream sod where I like second-time starter #2 Win N Juice. The $30K OBS March 2025 purchase tried stakes foes on debut in the Royal Palm Juvenile last month, but was off slow and outrun from there. The good news is that came against a tougher group and a move forward should certainly be expected. Especially when you consider the fact that trainer Nolan Ramsey has won 5 of 9 in Florida over the last 30 days and also boasts a strong 3 for 7-record with 2YOs making their second career start. The Win Win Win colt is in with a huge shot assuming he can get out of the gates a little cleaner.

        Play: #2 Win N Juice (7-2 ML)

        Race 6:

I lack creativity in this $35k maiden claimer sprinting over the all-weather where 5-2-ML favorite #8 Lido Beach looks tough to beat. The $15k purchase drops in for a tag for the first time after a pair of tiring efforts against protected maidens for veteran conditioner Joe Orseno. On debut, the Curlin’s Honor filly was down on the rail and able to grind away a minor share against a considerably better group. Then, she got caught up in a speed duel in her return race versus similar on May 29. Orseno comes in having won 4 of 16 at Gulfstream over the last 30 days with an ROI of $2.36. The Florida-bred is spotted to win. The outside draw helps her cause.

Play: #8 Lido Beach (5-2 ML)

        Race 8:

There does not appear to be a ton of early speed signed on in this first-level allowance event at 7-furlongs. This should benefit #3 Avant Glory. The son of Khozan disappointed the public last month when failing to cross the wire first in an open $12,500 claimer over this racetrack, but ran huge in defeat. The 6YO was claimed out of that race by hot training Laura Cazares. Cazares comes in having won 4 of 13 over the last 30 days for an ROI of $4.42 and appears to have made a solid purchase. The Florida-bred drops back into state-bred competition and should find himself in a favorable forward position under jockey Miguel Vazquez. The fact Avant Glory has 4 more career victories than any of his rivals certainly does not hurt. Hopefully, the Cazares barn can keep things rolling!

Play: #3 Avant Glory (4-1 ML)

          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

          Churchill Downs - Race #3
#4 The Chalk He may not offer the 15/1 ML price, but he also won't be the chalk here -- like the effort he turned in here at the end of the last campaign, and something similar keeps him in the frame here if he can fire fresh.
#7 Ravens Dream There are a couple nice names on his page from last year, and he finds a pretty welcoming spot for the 3-year-old debut. Should get a good tracking run of things from the outside.
#1 Ancient History Not super thrilled about most of these, so I'd be willing to take a look at this fresh face on the tote and track ahead of this.
Race Summary The Chalk seems logical enough in here after running in a couple OK spots as a 2-year-old. Wondering if he can sustain his pressing run better with some growth.
          Churchill Downs - Race #5
#10 Batter Up Not a ton of finishing form lined up in this spot, so I like that he at least knows how to get past some horses late. Could be good for a thrill if the forward and chasing types start to pack things in midstretch.
#9 Lean Music Machine He has the right kind of style to maybe sit a first-jump run behind the more committed speed types, and the price might be a tiny touch better today?
#7 Mobster Respect this one on the drop with some pace, but there are a couple others in here who can probably keep him company. Baseline stuff would do the trick, but I don't love the idea of him taking some early pressure after a bad fade last out.
Race Summary Batter Up can settle and finish here, and although he has come short on excuses at this point, I think he has some midrange price appeal here.
          Churchill Downs - Race #8
#2 Orizzonte A bit of rain in the forecast a few days out while writing here, but I think this guy is going to hit hard on either surface. The recent form is sharp ahead of the slated turf debut, and the price should be OK in a pretty deep spot for the level.
#4 Johny's Fireball Tactical type has been in with some better groups in a lot of those races on his page, but I am just not totally thrilled with his form this year so far. Perhaps the last was a hint in the right direction on the drop.
#6 Green Light Nothing but reliable turf form on the page, and he has been competitive with a couple pretty nice stakes winners along the way. Won't argue with you.
Race Summary Orizzonte should get the right kind of trip while trying to prove himself on the turf. His dirt form makes him an obvious player if this doesn't stay on.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Monmouth Park - Race #2
#7 FAST KIMMIE (3-1) Awakened in second start off 8-month layoff, seeks third win at this distance.
#6 TAVIN (5-2) Met front-end winners in 5 of last 6 starts, settling for minor awards, stretches out.
#4 CHARGE NURSE (4-1) Charged late for a pair of two-turn sprint victories at Charles Town.
Race Summary FAST KIMMIE set ‘fast fractions’ at Aqueduct and widened her lead against a pair of low-60 Beyer types in a much-improved second start this year. She can move forward again and win for the third time at one mile in her last four starts. Bet to win and place and play 7-4 and 7-6 exactas.
            Monmouth Park - Race #3
#2 SOUPER WILLIWAW (3-1) Just missed from post 13 in one-mile grassy route, draws post 2.
#3 RESTLESS DREAMER (4-1) Ran second in ‘triple key’ race two back, troubled odds-on fave in latest.
#8 HIGH NOTE (5-2) Improving numbers for top barn, switches pilots again.
Race Summary SOUPER WILLIWAW hooked the 5-1 winner for a stretch-long duel but settled for second in his first long-distance test. He overcame post 13 to earn the top speed figure in the field and breezed 5F in 1:02 since that race. Bet to win and place.
            Monmouth Park - Race #4
#3 LLOYD (4-1) Projects good trip, shorter distance could suit, value play in evenly-matched field.
#1 MAGICAL WARRIOR (3-1) Has speed and rail, steps up off Ness claim, gets in light-weighted.
#4 FACE ABARRIO (2-1) Parlayed ultra-consistent form into $100k bankroll since $5k claim a year ago.
Race Summary LLOYD bid into a fast pace for a short-lived lead at 6F on short rest. In the race prior, he followed the move but couldn’t keep up with razor sharp He’s In Charge, a winner of four in a row. He should sit an ideal stalking trip at a decent price. Bet to win and place and play a 3-ALL exacta.

                  Century Mile - Race #7 - Post: 9:15pm - Maiden Special - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $35,000 Class Rating: 68

                  Rating:

                  #7 MR MIEZIE (ML=3/1)
                  #6 DR BROKER (ML=9/2)

MR MIEZIE - Gelding looks like the lone speed here. He may turn the race into a procession. This thoroughbred coming off a solid try in the last month is a contender in my book. DR BROKER - Gonzalez rode this horse for the first time in the last race and comes right back today. Always watch out for the longer priced animal when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #9 ZIP IT WRIT (ML=2/1), #2 FORGOTTEN MAN (ML=5/1), #4 BRI'S BOY (ML=6/1),

ZIP IT WRIT - I'm always uncertain about any entrant that earns his biggest fig on an 'off' track. FORGOTTEN MAN - Can't bet on this steed in today's sprint of 6 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a short distance race lately. When scrutinizing today's class figure, he will have to garner a better speed rating than in the last race to compete in this dirt sprint. BRI'S BOY - Should have at least finished in the money in the last couple months in a sprint contest to be worth the risk at low odds in a sprint. Common speed figure in the last race at Century Mile at 5 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - MR MIEZIE - Racing pattern would suggest this horse is fit and ready for today's race. I'd expect a strong performance.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #7 MR MIEZIE to win at post-time odds of 7/5 or better

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 11 PRIVATE RESERVE 30/1
                    # 10 AIRBORNE ELITE 2/1
                    # 3 ILLINI 8/1
PRIVATE RESERVE has a decent shot to take this outing and could score at a price in here. This colt with Burgos in the irons makes him a key contender. Could best this field based on the speed figure - 87 - of his last race. This colt gets a boost with Burgos in the irons. AIRBORNE ELITE - Reliable average Equibase speed figs in dirt sprint races make this animal a solid contender. Ran a very solid last race.

                      Monmouth Park - Race #6 - Post: 4:20pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 73

                      Rating:

                      #1 STORMY MITOLE (ML=2/1)

STORMY MITOLE - This horse has the pace, and no one may be able to keep up with her. Dropping in class rating points from her May 2nd race at Tampa Bay Downs. Based on that info, I will give this horse the advantage. You always have to be on the lookout for money making jockey/handler teams; we have an instance right here. The last rating of 69 is the top last race speed rating in the field.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #3 LAST GLORY (ML=5/2), #4 SHEZA BERNARDINI (ML=3/1), #7 SHINING SKYE (ML=5/1),

LAST GLORY - Speed ratings tell a narrative of decreasing form. Not probable that the speed rating she garnered on Jun 7th will hold up in this event. SHEZA BERNARDINI - 71/57/48, are the dropping speed figures for this less than sharp equine. Will be tough for this mount to beat this group off of that last speed rating. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class rating, so put her on the questionable challengers list.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - STORMY MITOLE - I like to check out the TrackMaster Platinum PPs to look for the top horse in earnings per start. This fine animal looks good to me so I'm making a wager on her.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #1 STORMY MITOLE to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

                        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                        # 9 DISCOTHEQUE 9/2
                        # 5 CUANDO 7/2
                        # 2 SPICED UP 5/1
DISCOTHEQUE looks respectable to best this field. Looks very good against this group and will most likely be one of the leaders. Overall the speed figures of this equine look very good in this race. This horse has been consistently running well in his latest outings. CUANDO - He has garnered formidable figs under today's conditions and will most likely fare well against this group of animals. In this field, this entrant is at the top in earnings per start in dirt sprint events. SPICED UP - Look for a solid pace improvement from this racer who enters on Lasix today. The average class figure alone makes this one a solid contender.
