    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #1
#1 Uncle Shaw Get a look at him on the tote and track ahead of this, but he has a fairly steady worktab for this claiming debut spot. Won't have to be too serious to score out of the box.
#4 Eastern Extension The Gulfstream form fits, and he should find a pretty good spot while in the mix throughout here. Might like it here.
#5 King Reigert He's another fresh face with a claim on this one while finding what feels like a pretty modest spot to land at first asking.
Race Summary Eastern Extension looks tough, but there isn't a ton in here once you get past him. Uncle Shaw looks interesting enough on debut at what is something probably a little shorter than the 6/1 ML price.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#2 Could Do Happy to take a stand here in hopes that this guy can get back to the January Turfway run. He turned in a clunker last out and hasn't been seen since, so I'm hoping he's ready to bounce back -- the two-back try might hammer these.
#4 The Fed's Plot Think he and #6 Major Mischief both fit well enough, but I'm just not very enthusiastic about either of them on top.
#7 Mohtafil He punched on before getting reeled in by a longshot winner last out, and he'll find a deeper crew on the rise in special weight company today. Still, he's one of the ones on form.
Race Summary Interested to see the price on Could Do at post time -- he's stepping back up in class after finding a little bit of form at the $30,000 level in January, but I think that run would do the trick here, and if you toss the last one....
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#8 Traveller He has a touch of tactical pace and some semi-reliable form for a horse at this level, and he could be sitting on something good in this third start back.
#10 Inappropriate Reliable finishing type tends to settle underneath, but the form isn't all that far off what it might take to score here, and I'm not sure who you're supposed to be all that excited about otherwise. Fun enough.
#3 Anchises He and #5 Express Star both seem capable enough, but I think the top pair have some more compelling midrange price appeal.
Race Summary Traveller and Inappropriate both have some playable price appeal, and I'd be happy to sit live to just the two of them on my tickets.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
#7 HE BE READY (5-2) Looks the best of a bad bunch, distance is the only question.
#1 THEO’S PROMISE (15-1) Can be excused for latest, fits well on best, price attached.
#8 JENNY’S BEIGNET (4-1) Lacked stretch kick in pair of fast-paced allowance sprints.
Race Summary HE BE READY appears ready to win in his third start this year. He was troubled at the start in a ‘key’ allowance sprint two back, then raced 4-wide and finished third against the class-dropping winner and runner-up Neon Leon, who won by 3-1/4 lengths next out at the same level. Bet to win and place and play a 1-7-8 exacta box.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #4
#2 ZOOMBIE (9-2) Bled as beaten favorite, runs for cheapest tag yet after voided claim.
#5 ON YOUR MARK (9-5) Chased odds-on fave at Fair Grounds who was winning third in a row.
#4 INTO THE SUNRISE (10-1) Classy 7yo has five turf wins, breezed bullet prior to latest troubled start.
Race Summary ZOOMBIE, class-dropping after a voided claim three months ago, appears an all-or-nothing type as he nears $200,000 in earnings. His back turf numbers are the best in this field, he was re-claimed several times by a former trainer, but he bled as the beaten favorite in a strong allowance field last out. Bet to win and place and play a 2-ALL exacta.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #7
#1 CHELLE SHOCKED (12-1) Deceptively good try off the claim, added ground helps, live longshot.
#5 HUNGRY REGGAE (5-2) Shook duel, caught late in faster division of split race.
#8 INDIANA SMOKE SHOW (10-1) ‘Improved’ while 5-wide against Hungry Reggae, use in gimmicks.
Race Summary CHELLE SHOCKED broke inward at the start, launched a bid from far back at the quarter pole, was carried 8-wide on the turn and finished well. She draws the rail today, gets an extra half-furlong to run and could spring the upset with an alert break. Bet to win and place and play 1/5, 8/ALL trifecta.

            # 1 SADIE THE GOAT 5/2
MIRANDA'S ROCKY is the strongest wager in this race. As of late Fernandez has been hot which may give the edge to this mare. Recorded a solid Equibase Speed Fig in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. She ought to be given consideration given the respectable speed figures. CLOUD STORAGE - Has run soundly when running a dirt route race. She has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the best in this group of horses. SADIE THE GOAT - Has to be considered against this group displaying respectable numbers lately and an average speed figure of 76 under similar conditions. This filly has a good win percentage in dirt route races.

              Mountaineer Park - Race #2 - Post: 7:25pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,900 Class Rating: 70

              Rating:

              #3 PUNCTUALITY (ML=7/2)
              #5 MOON CHARGER (ML=10/1)

PUNCTUALITY - Gelding's finish positions keep getting better with each race. Maybe today's the day. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this campaigner is meeting an easier field than last out at Mountaineer Park. This gelding is in good form, having run a good race on June 8th, finishing third. This gelding is certainly on the improve with speed figs of 41, 53, 67 last 3 out. The most recent speed rating of 67 is the best last race speed fig in the group. MOON CHARGER - This gelding is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Cambray. With a big class drop in class rating points from his Jun 8th race at Mountaineer Park. Based on that information, I will give this one the edge. Don't throw this one out due to his last event at Mountaineer Park where he finished seventh in the slop. Should improve this time around.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 BAMBY BOOM (ML=8/5), #6 BOUNTEOUS (ML=5/2), #4 STORMY FIRE (ML=9/2),

BAMBY BOOM - This colt gave a lackluster effort last time out. Run-of-the-mill speed rating last race out at Mountaineer Park at 1 mile. Don't feel this runner will improve too much in today's event. BOUNTEOUS - 5/2 is not enough of a price to take on most any racer that has run poorly in back to back races. STORMY FIRE - Awfully hard to invest in this runner when he hasn't been showing any fighting spirit recently.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #3 PUNCTUALITY on top if we're getting at least 8/5 odds

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NOT WON TWO RACES IN 2024 - 2025. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE MARCH 24 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $4,000.

                # 4 UPBEAT MELODY 3/1
                # 5 TAPIT SAM 10/1
I've got to go with RACE DRIVER. Is a strong contender based on figures posted recently under today's conditions. Ought to come out solid - I have liked the way this gelding has moved speedily to the front end recently. Could beat this field given the 63 speed rating recorded in his last outing. UPBEAT MELODY - Will most likely be one of the front-runners of the bunch going into the halfway point of the contest. Could best this group of horses in this race based on the speed fig - 69 - of his last effort. TAPIT SAM - Boasts formidable speed figs on average overall when compared with the rest of this field. Randazzo has a solid win percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #1 - Post: 5:00pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 71

                  Rating:

                  #4 EASTERN EXTENSION (IRE) (ML=2/1)
                  #3 NONE THE WISER (ML=5/2)
                  #2 NOBLE GEM (ML=5/1)

EASTERN EXTENSION (IRE) - This rider/trainer duo has been producing a very lucrative ROI, right at +85. I like the hard fact that this gelding's last rating, 67, is tops in this bunch. NONE THE WISER - Horses that finish runner-up in Maiden races and finish well in front of the 3rd horse are generally good bets next time out. After the contest aboard this equine on June 9th, the jockey is going to be acquainted with the gelding much better. Stokes brings him right back. I recommend you stick with this live gelding. NOBLE GEM - I definitely see positive things for this thoroughbred right here.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #5 KING REIGERT (ML=4/1), #7 DOMINATOR C. (ML=9/2), #1 UNCLE SHAW (ML=6/1),

KING REIGERT - Almost certainly won't make much of an impression today. DOMINATOR C. - Showed very little in the last affair. Really can't expect any improvement today. UNCLE SHAW - Doesn't seem to be in a strong spot today.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - EASTERN EXTENSION (IRE) - This gelding has, based on my calculations, dominant pace. Look for this one to be in front turning for the finish line, straight through to the wire.
