Al Cimaglia: The Meadows Middle Pick 4 Analysis

    June 26, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The Meadows has a 13-race card with multiple 0.50 Pick 4 sequences. The middle Pick 4 starts in Race 5, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 5 (2:05 PM EST)

1-Honolulu Hanover (7/2)-Comes off some dull efforts, ships back to Mea, draws the rail and Ronnie Wrenn gets the nod. The Ron Burke pupil should be dialed on high. Did beat stakes company in his only start in town on 5/9 and best to not overlook.
6-Messenger Hanover (3-1)-Hasn't been able to seal the deal in the last 2 races, finishing 2nd, but drew post 8 and post 7. Gets some post relief, Dave Palone is at the controls and does have the gate speed to get a close-up seat off the gate.
7-I'll Have A Double (7/2)-Does good work at Mea (14-3-5-3) and could grind his way around for another picture. Won the last start from post 6, and this will be a test. Will respect the double up possibility and could offer a square price.

    Race 6 (2:25 PM EST)

5-Fredericktown Lad (2-1)-Burke trainee stayed inside and raced evenly. That start came after a sick scratch and has only raced once since 5/31. Does good work at The Meadows (19-3-5-4) and will look for an aggressive steer from Ronnie Wrenn. Should be a main threat at a short price with a top of the stack trip
8-Brave Stranger (7/2)-Won last time from the rail and faces the same today. The outside post makes it more challenging, but it does help the price. This barn has them ready to compete and this 3-year-old likes to win more than others. Has taken 3 pictures in 11 races this year all at The Meadows.

    Race 7 (2:45 PM EDT)

4-Get Some Cash (8-1)-Did put in a necessary race on 6-20 after being a sick scratch twice since May 10. Can hold his own versus this crew in an amateur driver race. Starts inside of others with a shot. Has the gate speed to land in a close-up seat and post a suck-around win.
7-Prince Charmer (10-1)-Ships back from PcD and should fit with this crew. Needs a trip and has a pilot in Lauren Harmon who is capable of working a winning one. Has good gate speed and the price is right to take a swing.
10-Unbeatable Kemp (5/2)-This 6-year-old should be in the hunt and has faced some tougher foes. Not liking the short price with the 1-17 record this year but could get an efficient trip. The #2 and #3 have good gate speed and that may help the veteran grab a decent early seat.

    Race 8 (3:05 PM EST)

4-Gimpanzee Dancer (5/2)-The Dancer has won 2 of the last 3 and raced big to take a picture last time in the 1st start on Lasix. This will be its Mea debut and has faced stakes competition in Kentucky. Aaron Merriman should be aggressive when the wings fold and he has been aboard in the last 3 races.
5-Jet Wings (7/2)-The Virgil Morgan 3-year-old is consistently in the mix at the war. Dave Palone steers and has options with this post draw.
7-Arrowhead Hanover (3-1)-Unlike my other 2 selections the Tim Twaddle pupil is racing on its home course
(13-6-3-2). The post helps the price and will look for Anthony MacDonald to have in striking range turning for the wire.

    0.50 Middle Pick 4

    1,6,7/5,8/4,7,10/4,5,7
    Total Bet=$27

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Hawthorne - Race #6
#6 Mary's Boon Dangerous pace probably meets some pressers today, but I think she'll control this the whole way after a couple of super-sharp local scores. Hat trick in sight.
#7 Commissioner Gulch Honest finisher has a touch of tactical speed and can probably settle into a good spying spot to watch this unfold. One of the ones.
#4 Sally's Suprise She's another with honest enough form -- just doesn't inspire a ton of excitement for me. Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here, she's just not for me today.
Race Summary Mary's Boon has dangerous speed and should be able to control the tempo, and I think Commissioner Gulch will be in the right spot to pick her up if she can't see out the trip.
      Hawthorne - Race #8
#4 Flying Samurai He has a bit of pace in a race without any other super serious early burn, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him hold that good form with a favorable race flow waiting today.
#7 Perfumer He's honest enough from off the pace, but his finishes in route races tend to be just a bit milder, so I could see him settling for another share underneath today.
#2 Jet Flight The overall form fits, but he has been a bit flat late in his recent races and probably won't offer a super appealing price. Some things to like.
Race Summary Flying Samurai looks likely to find a pretty cozy trip up top here, and he may be able to stretch this group out bit by bit up the backstretch.
      Hawthorne - Race #9
#7 Bourbon Street Boy He has failed to stay late through three starts, but he'll try turf today with what feels like a pace edge on a lot of these -- and a rider who is happy to take advantage of that if needed.
#11 Money Agent He showed a bit of life last out when getting back on the turf, but he's short on excuses at this point. He can win this, but the price gets a lot shorter today.
#2 Lone Return He can be a handful here with a couple of decent lines on his page, and he certainly has upside on the drop. Still, he's had his chances, and you have to go looking pretty hard for the good races.
Race Summary Bourbon Street Boy should be in a great spot near the top to see if he handles turf well enough. Could see him offering a second- or third-choice price.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Delaware Park - Race #1
#3 TRUE FAITH (5-1) Raced widest to far turn, dueled with odds-on winner, wilted in stretch.
#2 CASINO NIGHT (7-2) Rallied for share in all four starts, spanning 5-1/2F to one mile.
#4 SILENT ROAR (4-1) Got up to finish second, ahead of top one, and sheds 8 pounds.
Race Summary TRUE FAITH broke slowly, recovered to lead briefly while dueling with the 3-to-5 winner and faded to fourth. He sheds 4 pounds, cuts back in distance and offers the best value from among the favorites. Bet to win and place and play 3-3 and 3-5 daily doubles.
        Delaware Park - Race #2
#5 SIGALERT (6-1) Finger Lakes shipper knows how to win, well spotted for first start at Delaware.
#3 DATHOSS (7-2) Romped at odds-on, steps up off the claim, could sit ideal stalking trip.
#1 LIVING WATER (9-5) Led to stretch call in 5 of last 7 starts, winning twice, gets in light-weighted.
Race Summary SIGALERT was the beaten favorite in a starter allowance on a sloppy track, but his back-to-back wins at Finger Lakes before that don’t count against his eligibility for this $6,250 claiming sprint. The lightly-raced 9-year-old is 10-43 with more than a quarter million in earnings. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-3 exactas.
        Delaware Park - Race #5
#4 LIKE A DREAM (6-1) Idle since solid debut in the fall, tries turf, works indicate readiness.
#5 HOLY FIT (7-2) Looked like winner on Pimlico lawn two back, lost by a head, one to beat.
#1 TENDU (9-2) Rallied from clouds to get beat 3 lengths, class drops, moves outside in.
Race Summary Delaware Park, race 5 LIKE A DREAM is working steadily for her return from an eight-month layoff and first start on the lawn. She sustained a 4-wide rally on the turn but was floated wider into the stretch and finished second to a MSW class dropper in her 6F debut. Trainer Keri Brion is 19 percent on the synthetic-to-turf angle. Bet to win and place and play a 4, 5/1, 4, 5 exacta.

              # 6 ANNA AFTER MIDNITE 6/1
My selection in this race is DIAMONDS JOY. She has competitive class ratings, averaging 80, and has to be considered in this race. Rodriguez has this mare racing well and is a formidable selection based on the formidable Equibase Speed Figures put up in sprint races recently. This mare with Mojica in the saddle makes her a contender. LITTLE SASS - This filly looks very good here since Quinonez has a solid win percent with horses going this distance. With a quite good 80 Equibase Speed Fig last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this contest. ANNA AFTER MIDNITE - Has been running admirably lately and should be close to the lead early on. I can't pass on this filly given one of the strongest jockey and trainer combos on the grounds.

                Charles Town - Race #6 - Post: 9:21pm - SO - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $20,600 Class Rating: 91

                Rating:

                #3 STRYDA (ML=8/1)
                #2 SPEEDY BUBBLES (ML=12/1)

STRYDA - This thoroughbred probably isn't going to sit chilly. She should bust out of the gate and be one of the first to hit that tight turn. Watch for her down the stretch. You have to bet this horse at a racing surface she likes. There's nothing like being comfortable out on the track when it's time to race. Ranked number one in earnings per start (EPS). Another sign that this animal has class. SPEEDY BUBBLES - This mare is in fine form, having run a nice race on June 13th, finishing second. This mare is rounding her way back into shape. Should perform well today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 LITTLE BIT OF THAT (ML=3/5), #6 VALID REASON (ML=3/1),

LITTLE BIT OF THAT - The Brain tells me to keep away from ponies in short distance races that haven't hit the board in sprint races recently. I usually try to beat these types of favorites off the extended vacation. VALID REASON - Finished third last time out. Would have to get better to be on the board in today's race.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - SPEEDY BUBBLES - When you're betting the way I do, its nice to see consistency. This horse tries hard every time.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 STRYDA is the play if we get odds of 3/2 or better

                  Churchill Downs - Race #1 - Post: 5:00pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $36,000 Class Rating: 84

                  Rating:

                  #2 GLOBAL LEGEND (ML=8/1)
                  #1 ATLANTIC DANCER (ML=3/1)

GLOBAL LEGEND - The last time I saw this horse was at Churchill Downs in a race with an Equibase class figure of 91. Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure this time around puts him in a solid position in this event. This animal is number one in earnings per start (EPS). He looks strong in today's affair. ATLANTIC DANCER - This gelding's last race was back on March 14th but I do believe he can run a good one coming off a vacation. Entered last at Turfway Park in a race with a class figure of 91. Dropping a significant amount in class figure this time around puts him in a solid position today.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #3 GOLD SEARCH (ML=9/5), #6 GOLDEN PLATE (ML=7/2), #4 PIERCE ELEVATED (ML=6/1),

GOLD SEARCH - Hasn't been on the Churchill Downs oval in the last 3 weeks. Cause for some concern. Most unsatisfactory speed fig in the last race at Churchill Downs at 6 furlongs. Don't feel this racer will improve too much today. GOLDEN PLATE - I'd like to see more conducive recent showings with morning line odds of 7/2. This gelding notched a rating in his last clash which likely isn't good enough today. PIERCE ELEVATED - The lack of early speed in the last one, a route clash, is a bit disconcerting.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #2 GLOBAL LEGEND on top if we're getting at least 2/1 odds

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 3 OCEAN VICTORY 4/1
                    # 7 ORBI ONE 5/1
                    # 5 ASSIDUOUSLY (GB) 8/1
My selection in here is OCEAN VICTORY. Recently Correa has been scorching which may give the edge to this gelding. Has to be given a chance based on the very good Equibase Speed Figure garnered in the last race. He has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the top in this field. ORBI ONE - Ortiz has shown excellent profits (+118 ROI ) with horses in turf route events. ASSIDUOUSLY (GB) - Must be given a chance based on the solid speed fig put up in the last contest. Has longshot possibilities and could prove victorious at a juicy mutuel.
