    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#1 Bromista He took a step forward against better last out in the second start back, and there are some races on his page from last fall that would make him a player today -- hoping he'll peak third time back.
#2 Skippy Town Obvious player handled similar last out before coming down, and something similar today would make him tough right back. The one to beat.
#4 Up In Time He brings a win-early pedigree to this soft debut spot, so I wouldn't be against taking a look at him ahead of this on the track.
Race Summary Bromista could be sitting on a better run today while dropping back in for a cheap tag and making the third start off the layoff. Price should be OK.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#5 I Recall She's just tactical enough to avoid getting outrun early here, but she might find a pretty dreamy spot spying the quicker players up the backstretch. Think there's enough to like here at what might be the longest price on the board in a short field.
#1 Captain Courtney She's a danger right back after stretching her reliable form around two turns while making her second start back off a long break. Might find a perfect spot just tucked in behind the more committed pace players.
#4 Sweet Nola Nothing wrong with her recent form that sends her here in search of a fifth consecutive win, and she has some ability to press or force the pace as needed.
Race Summary I Recall might trip out from just behind the splits here, and she hinted at rounding into her better form last time out.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#5 Shakin It Up Larry Let's see if he's ready to go -- he's going to need to bring his sharp pace to the gate today if he's going to handle the likely chalk on the outside. Best of the speed could hold here.
#6 One Timer There are some really, really good sprint names in his company lines, and there's no doubt he's the one to beat here while going second off the bench.
#1 Spirited Sol Think he'll end up offering another OK price -- he typically gets overlooked on the board and should not command nearly as much cash as the top pair will. Saves ground and finishes?
Race Summary Shakin It Up Larry can be tough here as the likely second choice if he's ready to run fresh today -- something he didn't do here last year. Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone assuming One Timer will handle these on class and baseline form.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Delaware Park - Race #4
#2 HARMONIZING (5-2) No match for last-to-first repeater, projects ideal trip in bid for first win this year.
#4 STEP LIGHTLY (5-1) Well-spotted for 30 percent ‘repeat’ barn off wire-to-wire victory.
#1 MADDIE TEN (8-5) Maryland invader runs for cheapest tag yet, early trouble lines magnified from rail.
Race Summary HARMONIZING ‘ducked out sharply’ at the top of the stretch and was disqualified from second after next-out repeater Little Crybaby (4-16, $64k) passed by. She steps up in class, picks up 9 pounds with Centeno aboard for the first time and should sit an ideal stalking trip. Bet to win and place and play 2-1 and 2-4 exactas.
      Delaware Park - Race #6
#4 RENEWING VOWS (15-1) Had tightener, second to hard hitter at this level, gets nod in wide-open race.
#7 GAMETIME GLADIATOR (7-2) Didn’t win at 5-1 odds or less in 9 of last 11 starts, sheds blinkers.
#2 RAMIEL (10-1) Can’t seem to avoid early trouble, seeks duplicate of race two back, wears hood.
Race Summary RENEWING VOWS improved as a 3-year-old, then worked forwardly but didn’t factor in a comeback allowance route. He has a good one-mile race under these conditions last fall to summon, finishing second to 2-to-5 favorite Arrow Speed (19/5-7-1, $153k). Bet to win and place and play a 2-4-7 exacta box.
      Delaware Park - Race #7
#8 MATTITUDE (8-1) Dream setup could pave way for first victory in more than a year.
#3 ABOVE THE LIMIT (2-1) Speed of the speed is 16/5-4-4 with $173k turf bankroll but offers little value.
#4 LADY ZETA (5-1) Won 3 of last 4 times Rodriguez was aboard, twice in photo finishes.
Race Summary MATTITUDE made a middle move to lead at the stretch call in an allowance sprint on the turf. She flattened out to finish fourth but could sustain the same type of rally in a speed-laden field. Bet to win and place and play 8-3 and 8-4 exactas.

Race 5 - Maiden Special Weight - 6.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $17050 Class Rating: 59

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 125 LBS.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 1 CASHOUT CAROL 6/5
            # 2 DARETOCATCHLOVE 7/5
            # 3 CHICKS NIGHT OUT 6/1
I've got to go with CASHOUT CAROL. Has to be considered a solid choice on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. With a nice Equibase class figure average of 69, has one of the best class advantages in this group. Has run admirably when racing a dirt sprint race. CHICKS NIGHT OUT - Looks respectable to be on the lead at the first call.

              Race 1 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $23800 Class Rating: 74

IND - R5 - FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE JUNE 2 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $12,500 IF THIS RACE IS TAKEN OFF
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 1 WEST MAPLE 8/5
              # 3 AL TIRAH 7/2
              # 2 BAYTOWN STORM 9/2
I've got to go with WEST MAPLE. She has been travelling well recently while recording solid Equibase Speed Figs. This filly has a good win percentage in turf route races. Ought to be carefully examined in this competition if only for the very good speed figure recorded in the last contest. AL TIRAH - Must be carefully examined given the class of races run lately. Her 61 average has this mare with among the most favorable Equibase Speed Figures in this competition. BAYTOWN STORM - Garnered a strong speed figure last time out.

                Parx Racing - Race #9 - Post: 4:20pm - Optional Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $42,000 Class Rating: 79

                Rating:

                #6 BOUTWELL TIME (ML=8/1)
                #8 ANGEL OF HOPE (ML=6/1)
                #3 CAPTAIN WHINER (ML=9/2)

BOUTWELL TIME - This fine animal should be rumbling in the homestretch. ANGEL OF HOPE - Have to make this filly a win candidate; she comes off a nice race on Jun 3rd. The ROI when Hernandez and Padilla team up is out of sight. Expect better today as this filly gets Lasix for the second time. CAPTAIN WHINER - This filly is in good condition. Finished second on June 7th.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #1 DELICATE (ML=7/2), #4 MARELOW (ML=4/1), #2 OURDAYDREAMINGGIRL (ML=5/1),

DELICATE - This questionable contender hasn't been on the track since Jun 3rd. Not even any drills. This filly just doesn't seem to like the number 1 post. Her running lines show that she doesn't fare well from there. MARELOW - A runner should have more early zip at 1 mile 70 yards to get me riled up about her chances of winning at 7 furlongs. Last viewed on February 26th at Parx Racing. Probably needs to do some racing into form. OURDAYDREAMINGGIRL - Tough to wager on any thoroughbred in a short distance race at 5/1 when she hasn't shown any successful efforts in sprints in the last couple of months.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #6 BOUTWELL TIME on the nose if you can get odds of 3/1 or more

                  Thistledown - Race #8 - Post: 4:20pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,500 Class Rating: 72

                  Rating:

                  #4 DIVINE EMPIRE (ML=9/5)
                  #5 BREEZE THE BAYOU (ML=3/1)

DIVINE EMPIRE - This horse has the pace, and no one may be able to keep up with him. I like this colt. Has the topmost earnings per race in this event. BREEZE THE BAYOU - My experience tells me to watch out for this entrant in this affair

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #6 THISISRIDICULOUS (ML=4/1), #7 C C'S CLEAR CREEK (ML=9/2), #2 REASON TO BELIEVE (ML=8/1),

THISISRIDICULOUS - The lack of morning drills has to make one concerned despite the nice performance in the last event. Awfully tough to play any horse that just won a Maiden Claimer, then steps up to face winners. C C'S CLEAR CREEK - You believe this equine is going to finish first just because he's always close. Just doesn't get the job done regularly. Don't think this less than sharp equine will make a winning move in today's event. That last rating was run-of-the-mill when compared with today's class rating. REASON TO BELIEVE - 8/1 odds isn't enough for this one when scrutinizing the most recent showings.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - DIVINE EMPIRE - This colt has the greatest last speed figure at Thistledown. Must be considered in your investing.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #4 DIVINE EMPIRE to win at post-time odds of 7/5 or better
