Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    July 7, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool starts in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 rolls in Race 8, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 8 (9:05 EDT)

2-Always A Thrill (7/2)-Has won 9 of 13 this year and certainly knows how to beat this kind. Recent form hasn’t dropped off much. Did finish 3rd in the last 2 starts and wouldn’t want the DeVita 4-year-old to break up the ticket with an inside draw and maybe a pocket trip.
4-Dunkin (9/2)-This sequence could come up chalky. The DiDomenico entry might be overlooked and could pay a nice price. Needs the right trip and my expectation is George Brennan makes the most of the post edge it has on some tough foes. Could blasts out and try to go gate to wire.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-American Dealer N (3-1)Has finished 2nd in 5 of the last 6 and now drops out of the Invites. Gets a new set of hands in Tyler Buter and should be on top or in the 2 hole off the gate. Best to respect chances to seal the deal here.
6-Street Hawk N (7/2)-This veteran also drops and lands at the level of its last win which came on June 2nd. Went gate to wire from the 8-hole and was bet down to 6/5. Brennan should be out and rolling at another short price.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

4-Curbside Pickup (4-1)-Brennan could try to take control when the wings fold, but he has options. Could beat this crew coming off cover if the pace is honest. Can be a main player if gets off the gate alertly.
6-Flip My Chip (3-1)-Last week, made the 1st start for the Forte barn after a claim. Brent Holland was at the controls. He drove aggressively from the 7-hole and did get on the point. But a 27.1 3rd quarter may have been its undoing, finished a beaten 2nd at 12-1. Won't be that price but could get a smoother trip tonight.

    Race 11 (10:05 PM EDT)

2-Ameritric (12-1)-Going to fade #1 Frequent Image the chalk and try to get a decent return on the Pick 4 sequence. This 4-year-old won't be on many tickets but starting inside could do the trick at a big price. Did come 2nd missing by a head against straight $30k claimers and left from post 1 that night. Could be on the point or in the pocket into the 1st turn and if so, has a shot at an upset.
6-I'm The Prince (6-1)-The Prince is somewhat pace dependent as big gate speed isn't his thing. This race should have honest fractions. It could set up nicely for Brennan to roll by foes down the lane and take a picture at a solid price.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,4/2,6/4,6/2,6
    Total Bet=$32

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#3 Dunedin Wonder if his last two are a bit better than they look on paper? He has also run into some tough customers along the way and might be a good fit locally.
#6 Snowname Outside draw gives him a chance to attack the rail runner the whole way, and I love how his form perked up when he got over the local footing. Chance to land another one.
#1 Diamond Dust There are some decent names on his page, and he has some pace to get in the race from the start here. Dangerous with his better stuff if the horse drawn widest doesn't force the issue.
Race Summary Hoping Dunedin gets just a touch overlooked here while trying a new synthetic footing, and he might be able to find a perfect spot to watch those two pace player settle the early score.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#5 Honorable Win Hoping the presence of the one drawn just inside of her will help keep the price mildly interesting -- she was a good fit here last season and can play here if she fires fresh.
#4 Our Lady Flashy through two starts at Woodbine, she'll move in with PA-breds for this one while likely sitting a perfect trip right up on the speed in a sprint spot that doesn't feel like it's on pace overload. Filly with a high ceiling is the one to beat.
#8 Dixieland Belle She hasn't done anything of note since, but the career debut produced a stakes score over this course, and maybe she'll finish with some more enthusiasm while cutting back today.
Race Summary Honorable Win might sit an OK trip spying the pace, and Our Lady may take enough cash with the sharp Woodbine form to keep the price playable.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#2 Lady Kathryn She goes third off the bench with a couple of tough lines on her page, and I'm wondering if this local crew might be a bit more to her liking right now. Some appeal at a midrange price.
#5 Unbridled Peace Lots of logical players in here with some finishing form, and she might be able to get a perfect pressing run to get the jump on those. Consider...but I don't think she has to win this, so I'd watch the price.
#7 Cupid Missed I like that she rises off the bench after closing the season here in pretty good form. Could be honest enough to compete with these if she's ready to roll.
Race Summary Lady Kathryn's form has totally gone the wrong way after a few good starts to open her career, but I'm hoping the new footing will give her a chance to wake up with some back runs that make her interesting here.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#5 MUNYHUNGRY (4-1) Hooked leader at quarter pole, denied after head-and-head battle to wire.
#2 EL MEDIANOCHE (9-2) Won last three starts at Parx, starts for new connections in rematch.
#3 MY LAST KISS (6-1) No match for top pair but new barn can do little wrong with claims.
Race Summary MUNYHUNGRY continues to burn money this year, failing to win at 5-1 odds or less in his last six starts. But he went down fighting against EL MEDIANOCHE in the same spot last out, racing 3-wide to the quarter pole before their stretch-long battle. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-3 exactas.
        Parx - Race #2
#8 JJ’S HONOR (8-1) Shook mid-turn challenge in long sprint, drew away in final sixteenth.
#7 SHE CAN SCAT (6-1) Gave way chasing dueling favorites on class drop to this level, gets Sanchez.
#2 CHANNEL LOOP (5-2) Ran 1-2 in 4 of 9 starts on dirt, ran second as controlling speed off the claim.
Race Summary JJ’S HONOR worked forwardly for her 7F maiden romp and can use her speed well on the move to the outside post today. She’s worth a win and place bet to repeat in a field that is a combined 4-for-77 at Parx. Also play a 7, 8 over 2, 7, 8 exacta.
        Parx - Race #5
#1 LORD SEABEE (5-1) In tight, swung wide, too late behind the favorites and a next-out winner.
#5 DAVOLA (7-2) Has speed, gets class relief, sheds weight for first try on conventional dirt.
#2 IRISH WISH (4-1) Disputed pace until the stretch in prior route-to-sprint try at this level.
Race Summary LORD SEABEE checked twice on the backstretch, losing a few lengths, then swung widest on the turn and finished got beat 1-1/2 lengths as his four-race string of in-the-money finishes ended. He’s 0-for-20 at Parx but he finished a head behind a next-out, wire-to-wire winner and can upgrade to a victory himself. Bet to win and place and play 1-2 and 1-5 exactas.

              # 5 STARR OF THE SHOW 7/2
SURELY IM CORONA has a quite good shot to take this race. Have to bet on this filly with the solid earnings per start in short contests. Has to be given consideration here on the basis of the figures in the speed section alone. Will almost certainly come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved swiftly to the front end recently. NOT EASY BEING ME - Her 63 average has this filly with among the most respectable Equibase Speed Figures in this race. Must be given a shot given the class of races run lately. STARR OF THE SHOW - Should be given consideration - I like the numbers from the last contest. No strangers to the winner's circle, Moreno and Ambrociomedina will almost certainly have this filly breaking away from the field.

                Presque Isle Downs - Race #1 - Post: 3:30pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 85

                Rating:

                #2 RUSTYS GFIVEFIFTY (ML=8/1)
                #1 VELOCE (ML=5/1)

RUSTYS GFIVEFIFTY - Have to make this gelding a solid contender; he comes off a nice effort on June 27th. That was a dominant win last time out. In my opinion has a good chance to repeat today. VELOCE - This beautiful animal should be motoring in the stretch.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #4 SILVER STYLE (ML=5/2), #3 TRIPLE START (ML=3/1), #6 FOUNDER (ML=4/1),

SILVER STYLE - This mount hasn't shown much effort in the last couple of affairs. Recorded a substandard speed figure in the last race in a $5,000 Claiming race on Mar 7th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that number. TRIPLE START - Don't believe this steed will make a winning move in today's event. That last rating was most unsatisfactory when compared with today's Equibase class figure. FOUNDER - No value on this one at the likely odds of 4/1.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 RUSTYS GFIVEFIFTY to win if you can get odds of 3/1 or more

                  # 3 RANGER BLUE 5/2
                  # 2 H B PLAISANCE 6/1
I think THE MIGHTY DON is a very strong choice. Rohena's return on investment over the last 30 days automatically makes this horse a strong contender. He looks solid in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. Is a contender - given the 58 Equibase Speed Fig from his most recent race. RANGER BLUE - Shows reliable Equibase Speed Figs on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. This pony enters today's contest with second time Lasix. H B PLAISANCE - Ran a strong last race. With a solid 50 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race.

                    Thistledown - Race #3 - Post: 1:50pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,100 Class Rating: 53

                    Rating:

                    #2 ORGULLOSA PACIFICA (ML=9/2)

ORGULLOSA PACIFICA - Forgive the out of the money finish on the off track in the last race. Without a sloppy track, has a good shot right here.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 JENN SWEET JENN (ML=2/1), #4 FREEDOM PRINCESS (ML=5/2), #3 MISS LITTLE BIT (ML=5/1),

JENN SWEET JENN - I don't normally play a probable favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last three weeks. The fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this animal as a possibly overvalued contestant. FREEDOM PRINCESS - Improbable for this thoroughbred to make an impact with no recent success in a sprint event. Should be difficult for this horse to beat this group off of that last rating. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the possibly overvalued contestants list. MISS LITTLE BIT - You think this horse is going to be first just because she's always close. Just doesn't finish on top often. Registered a most unsatisfactory fig last race out in a $7,500 Maiden Claiming race on June 12th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that figure.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #2 ORGULLOSA PACIFICA to win if you can get at least 1/1 odds
