Northfield Park has a 15-race card with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:50 PM EDT)

2-The Real Way (7/2)-Ships in from Mea off a nice effort from post 7 to finish 2nd and now drops a notch. Has cashed checks versus better at Nfld and Aaron Merriman will be on the lead or close to it throughout.
4-Pocket The Cash N (6-1)-Chris Lems gets the nod and recent form has been dull but was facing Open company. Drops, could be overlooked and has enough gate speed to land a close-up seat.
5-Lake Charles (2-1)-Should be in the hunt but will likely not offer any value. Drops and should relish the company. May not look to get the top when the wings fold but can catch the leader coming off cover.

Race 12 (10:13 PM EDT)

2-Bryant Bros S (7/2)-Bumps up a couple of levels after going gate to wire and has won 3 of 6 at Nfld. With this post draw Chris Page could work a ground saving journey and be in the hunt at the wire.
7-Rose Run Zoom (7/2)-Dan Noble is at the controls and my take is he is going to have the pedal down. Should be able to land in a close-up seat. Looks like a threat to cash the top check if doesn't burn a lot of gas early in the mile.

Race 13 (10:36 PM EDT)

2-Master Yossi N (2-1)-Has had 2 starts since coming off the bench and didn't show much in either race but they were against much better. Takes a meaningful drop and Justine Irvine could get on the point and play catch me if you can.

Race 14 (10:59 PM EDT)

5-Hill Of A Night (9/5)-Beat the $8k claimers on 6-15, and since then hasn't been close at the wire. Drops to a soft spot, and this looks like a good opportunity to get back on the winning side of the ledger. Has won 4 of 14 this year, 21 of 76 at Nfld and no excuses are allowed tonight.

Del Mar - Race #6

#5 Westwood	Like the next guy, he has knocked heads with some stakes players in recent starts and fits better here, and I'm hoping the presence of a couple other contenders.
#1 Rank	He's a multiple stakes-placed runner in decent form right now, but he has had a lot of chances already and figures to take some cash again here while dropping back in with friends. Obvious player, but my enthusiasm is a bit tempered.
#3 Unique Power	Not a whole lot from him through two starts so far, but the dirt route might work in his favor as he stretches out for the first time while racing fresh again. Ready for better?
Race Summary	Haven't even mentioned Churchill invader #6 Privman, who has been landing shares around the country out of the Baffert barn -- another to consider. Westwood looks right in a pretty fun race for the level.

Del Mar - Race #7

#10 Our Moonlight	She caught a nice one in that Grade III run last time out, and she fits better here while trying the turf for the first time. Lots to like with a versatile pedigree and a good trip likely waiting for her.
#5 Cat the Confidante	Not much wrong with her form through two starts, and she should be in line for another good spying trip today. May still have some upside, too.
#1 Wink and a Grin	Finisher has turned in a few sharp closing efforts that make her a player again with this crew. Could give the jump to the top pair, which is my only worry.
Race Summary	Our Moonlight drops out of the Summertime Oaks where she caught a high-ceiling winner in Cash Call. She should get a perfect spying run from the outside today.

Del Mar - Race #9

#4 Omnipotent	Think she'll be a bit overlooked here while stepping up with some class questions to answer, but I liked her last run a bit and wonder if she can build off that one. Midpack spy to score at a price?
#2 Queen Maxima	She's on a search for her sixth win in a row, but she's at least a mild question mark at this kind of trip right now after doing all of that wickedly sharp work going short. Capable, but I'm not totally sure...
#9 Medoro	She has now lost four in a row after scoring four in a row to open her career, but she has been knocking heads with much better than she's going to see here. Absolutely nothing like Grade I performer She Feels Pretty lined up today.
Race Summary	Lots of logical places to hang your hat in this one, but I wonder if Omnipotent might be sharp enough right now to stay in the mix at an OK price.

This horse is ranked at the top in this field.

SHADY MCGEE (IRE) - Taking a trip to a lower class rank; has the power to make his presence felt. This horse ran out of the money at Hawthorne last out on the soft turf. He should improve in this race on a fast track. LOOKIN FOR REVENGE - The return on investment when Gonzalez and Simonovich hook up is good. All systems look good for this gelding. Last morning work, 2nd fastest of the day, shows he's fit and ready. Was in an $8,000 Claiming race at Turfway Park last out. That affair had a class rating of 92 and he is moving down in this race. A certain contender.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 SIXWILLBERICH (ML=7/2), #4 NEW YEAR SURPRISE (ML=4/1), #7 LAND MARK DEAL (ML=6/1),

SIXWILLBERICH - This gelding is always in the money, but just doesn't win. Difficult to wager on him on the front end. NEW YEAR SURPRISE - You figure that this animal is going to be first just because he's always close. Just doesn't finish first frequently. Somewhat easily forgotten speed figure in the last race at Hawthorne at 7 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this less than sharp equine will improve too much in today's race. LAND MARK DEAL - This mount likes to be in the money, but doesn't usually finish first. Keep out of the top spot. I'd like to see better recent efforts with morning line of 6/1. Not likely that the fig he garnered on Jul 10th will hold up in this event.

1^st race [Md 50000, 1 1/8 mi] – (1A) The Taco Lady (B) was last seen racing in December when she was bet down from 5-1 to 3-1 and finished third in a maiden special weight at Aqueduct. (6) Makes Sense has a pair of second-place finishes in maiden special weights. (5) Last Man Standing has three top three finishes in maiden special. (2) No Merlot was second in February in a Tampa maiden special weight on the turf.
4^th race [Clm 30000 N3L, 6 ? F] – (6) Eliminate won a first-level allowance in April and drops in for a tag for the first time. (8) Charlie’s Express set the pace and finished third in his first try in an allowance. (1) Kigali was second in a similar spot at Churchill Downs and horses from that Kentucky track have been winning more than their share races at Saratoga. (4) Scat Tu Tap will drop down to this level for the first time after a series of starter allowances.

9^th race [Honorable Miss (G2), 6F] – (4) Scylla is a past Grade 2 winner and was second in the Bed O Roses (G2) at the Spa in June.
