    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4
#4 Carcone Honest finishing type has already run well in a couple local starts, and he comes out of a race that might have been a bit better than this one.
#6 Shadow Factor He should be in line for a great trip while up close throughout, and something like his last would keep him in the frame right back.
#2 Tarsus Warrior He's right there on talent with this crew, but I worry that he could get a slightly tricky trip from here with a bit of other potential pace lined up outside of him. In the mix.
Race Summary Carcone might get a good run if a couple of the forward players keep things honest, and a repeat of that most recent run would probably do the job.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#1 J R Jone Z Always love a claim to rise move like this, and the first spin over the local footing went pretty well last time out. Can win back.
#5 Strider's Slider Pace ran well here last season and brings some compelling form from last year, but he needs a big move forward in the second start back after an uncharacteristically dull comeback run.
#4 Face Down He's a good fit with these and has a little bit of versatility in his running style that should give his rider some options out of the gate. Spying shot.
Race Summary J R Jone Z came up big in the first local try and now moves into this allowance spot for the new team. Think he's a decent fit here at what might be a just playable enough price.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#8 Golden Heart Not a whole lot of early pace lined up in this one, and she flashed some speed with similar last time out while staying on well for a share. Think this field is open for the taking on the front end.
#6 Traumarama She's tactical enough to avoid getting totally outrun in the early going today, and and maybe the cutback will wake her up a bit.
#1 Dominant Stranger She's got really reliable form and might trip out again from the inside today while just in behind the top choice. Wouldn't argue too hard with you.
Race Summary Golden Heart has route pace that translated to the front end last out, and she might be able to control the pace against this group that doesn't have any seriously reliable frontrunners.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #1
#1 MAKABIM (9-2) Earned almost half of $172k bankroll at this distance, changes riders again.
#8 SAL N LOUIE (7-2) Threw in clinker in the mud, drops to winning level off Pino claim.
#3 UNION LIGHTS (6-1) Seeks duplicate of runner-up finish on short rest behind the 3-to-5 fave.
Race Summary MAKABIM romped at this distance two back but left too much work to do against a runaway favorite under these conditions last out. He’s a steady low-60 Beyer type and draws the rail, so make a win and place bet and 1-3-8 exacta box.
      Parx - Race #4
#7 PIT BOSS (2-1) Can dictate the pace with Paco aboard as he tries to upgrade 4-30 mark at distance.
#5 MR HUSTLE (5-2) Beaten favorite in three straight, re-claimed by Ness, gets in light-weighted.
#1 CHIP’S FRIEND (15-1) Dueled in front of Pit Boss on the inside until the stretch, sheds 5 pounds.
Race Summary PIT BOSS prompted the pace 3-wide from post 12 and lacked stretch kick to finish third at 7F. He finished 5-1/2 lengths behind Brindisi, who sprung a mild upset yesterday at Parx. He can control the pace with Paco riding on the stretch-out in distance. Bet to win and place and play 7-1 and 7-5 exactas.
      Parx - Race #5
#8 CHINESEIAM (5-1) In top form, proven at 6F, value remains off easy victory for these connections.
#7 OKIE DEN DEN (9-2) Finished first or second in 7 of 9 starts this year, all but one at this level.
#3 AUGUSTINE RED (5-2) Ness class dropper has loyal following despite 1-14 record since 2024.
Race Summary CHINESEIAM appears rounding to a possible repeat victory in his fourth in the last six months. He was no match for speedy BANJO, who makes his first start since that May 17 sprint today, and ‘continued well’ from a 3-wide stalking spot to finish second in a long sprint two back.

Race 3 - Maiden Special Weight - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $26400 Class Rating: 73

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 119 LBS.; OLDER, 123 LBS.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 4 DAYTONA GOLD 3/1
            # 5 BOLT'S TREASURE 2/1
            # 2 BOUND TO SUCCEED 5/2
I've got to go with DAYTONA GOLD. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Rivera running at this distance are the top in this field. Ought to compete solidly in the early speed clash which bodes well with this group of animals. His earnings per start in dirt sprint events alone makes you take a look at him. BOLT'S TREASURE - Has solid speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in this competition. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Puhl have shown strong results recently. BOUND TO SUCCEED - The extreme drop in competition can only aid this one this time around. Is hard not to examine given the company run in lately.

              Parx Racing - Race #2 - Post: 1:07pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $23,000 Class Rating: 78

              Rating:

              #6 MALIBU WARRIOR (ML=5/1)
              #3 RAMIEL (ML=5/2)
              #4 COACH KNIGHT (ML=5/1)

MALIBU WARRIOR - This gelding's last speed rating is high enough to win here, I'll wager on him right back this time around. RAMIEL - Ran a less than stellar race at Delaware Park last time around the track. Racing on a fast track puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list. This equine collects a lot of money per race. At the top in this race. COACH KNIGHT - This gelding is in nice condition. Ended up first on July 2nd.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #5 SCUDETTO (ML=9/2), #1 MODICA (ML=5/1), #7 CAPTAIN CRUSH (ML=6/1),

SCUDETTO - This gelding is always hitting the board, but just doesn't finish on top. Hard to play him on the win end. MODICA - Tough to put any cash on this gelding on the front end. Likes to end up on the board though. Hasn't been close to winning at all of late. CAPTAIN CRUSH - Will probably be instructed to pay some respect to his elders today. In this circumstance, this entrant's inability to make up ground in the last event is definitely troubling.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #6 MALIBU WARRIOR to win at post-time odds of 4/1 or better
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [4,6]

                # 2 EXCEED 9/5
                # 5 CORE 2/1
                # 4 M C JACKHAMMER 12/1
EXCEED looks respectable to best this field. Adamo has a strong win percent with horses travelling in dirt sprint races. Ran a strong last race. With a strong 70 average Equibase Speed Fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. CORE - Looks very good for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in dirt sprint races lately. Must be given a chance - I like the figures from the last outing. M C JACKHAMMER - Opposing a much less demanding lot than last time out. In fine fettle, and coming back soon again today.

                  Louisiana Downs - Race #6 - Post: 6:25pm - Optional Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $20,000 Class Rating: 99

                  Rating:

                  #5 BRITERDAYZAHEAD (ML=2/1)
                  #6 COUNTRY HIT (ML=15/1)

BRITERDAYZAHEAD - Not much pace in this race other than this horse. This gelding recorded a good speed rating of 95 in his last event. That figure should be strong enough to win this time. Cravens moves this horse here to Louisiana Downs from Lone Star Park. Looking at the horse's PPs, he has shown the ability to win on different tracks. COUNTRY HIT - This mount could be tough today, especially since Munoz rode last time around the track and now should be better acquainted with this one. This jockey and trainer's horses have been generating a lucrative ROI. This gelding is in good condition. Ran third on Jun 24th.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #4 OUR FAVORITE SON (ML=5/2), #2 AUTIE (ML=7/2), #3 SCOOTERIA (ML=9/2),

OUR FAVORITE SON - Will probably be given a lesson to pay some respect to his elders today. This gelding hasn't had any recent success in sprint events. No picnic to play him in this event. AUTIE - In any event of 6 furlongs, I like to play a contender that has been looking good in short distance contests lately. Don't feel this pony will make an impact in today's event. That last speed fig was mediocre when compared with today's class rating. SCOOTERIA - When checking today's Equibase class figure, he will have to record a much better speed rating than in the last race to compete in this dirt sprint.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - BRITERDAYZAHEAD - This is an automatic bet for me. This gelding is the top TM Power-rated racer and his rating towers over the rest.
