Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    July 25, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway starts the weekend with a 9-race card. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

3-Factory Girl (4-1)-Battled hard versus Invites in the last 2 starts and now takes a meaningful drop. There is little reason to believe George Brennan won't be on the engine or in the pocket into the 1st turn. Either trip could lead to a picture.
6-Lit De Rose (5-1)-The 10-year-old mare doesn't bring her fastball every night, but this is the level for determined effort. Should enjoy the company and Pat LaChance can be in reach of the leader turning for the wire.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Street Gossip (7/2)-This veteran has become very camera shy in the last 2-years but this is a soft spot. Drops, starts inside, and comes back in sequence. Austin Siegelman needs to provide a sharp steer, if so, could be on the lead or close to it at the head of the stretch.
4-Chipper Dale (6/5)-Dale wins a lot of races but most of them don't come on the Hilltop. The ML odds reflect the drop-in class and a field that's not deep. Using against this crew but won't offer any value.

    Race 8 (9:05 EDT)

1-Vibrance (5/2)-Picked up 1 of only 2 wins in 2025 back on 5-16 at Yonkers versus this kind. Drops to an advantageous spot and draws the rail. The Burke trainee has options, and Brennan could look to go gate to wire, but could win not leading every step of the way.
7-Talent To Spare A (12-1)-Gave a decent try leaving from post 7 last time against similar and has beaten better than this at YR. If Siegelman has the pedal down when the wings fold and lands a close-up seat things could get interesting at a big number.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Golden Rain S (6/5)-Won last week in impressive fashion and now bumps up. The trip wasn't the best, was not aided by hot fractions, but was able to rally and pull away to post a win. That effort came with Jim Marohn between the pipes and went the back half in 56.4. Jason Bartlett knows well and won't shy away from this company. Has won 5 of 6 at Yonkers and the race will have to go through the Engblom entry.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    3,6/2,4/1,7/2
    Total Bet=$16

Saratoga Pick 3 Friday, July 25

      July 25, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      SARATOGA PICK 3
      Friday, July 25, 2025

World Record blazed to a wire-to-wire victory in 1:16-1/5 in last year’s Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga. Macho Music will try to do the same from the inside post this Friday, July 25, in the 6-1/2F, Grade 2 feature for 3-year-olds. The Amsterdam is the middle leg of a $1 Late Pick 3 wager that shapes up this way:

SAR 8th race (5:19 p.m. EST) -- SHEER WILL takes a magnified class drop after facing three rivals who posted an average 82 Beyer, not to mention Grade 1-placed favorite Snowyte, in a May 15 mile at Aqueduct. She ‘surged home late’ in a 6F sprint prior to that, finishing a length behind the favorite who posted an 82 Beyer in a follow-up romp. CARA’S CHIANTE earned the top speed figure in the field in her debut despite being reluctant to load and ‘bumped soundly’ at the start in a MSW sprint. She broke alertly in her second start but was pressed by the 4-to-5 favorite and others before a pair of late-running longshots passed by them all. She tried blinkers at Saratoga but another rough start did her in. KATE BARRY, a $200,000 sales buy, debuts off a 3/33 breezing workout in :48-4/5 on the Saratoga training track. Trainer Raymond Handal sent out a 7-1 debut winner in the same spot a year ago. DARTY TIME pressed the 32-1 upset winner and the favorite in the 3-path before he was floated 6-wide and tired in the stretch in a well-bet debut at Churchill Downs.

SAR 9th race (5:53 p.m. EST) -- Go deep on the ticket in the $200,000 Grade 2 Amsterdam at 6-1/2F. MACHO MUSIC, the lone graded stakes winner in the field, blazed through the opening half mile in less than 45 seconds in his last four starts at longer distances than today. He widened his lead in the stretch to spring a 13-1 upset in the Grade 2 Pat Day Mile, beating the likes of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Gaming and Madaket Road, who turned the tables on him and finished second in the Grade 1 Woody Stephens on a muddy Saratoga track. He runs his shortest distance this year and gets Irad Ortiz Jr. to pilot for the first time. GARAMOND, a first-out winner at this distance, earned the top speed figure in the field when he shrugged off the 1-to-9 favorite in a three-horse allowance race. He raced erratically while pinned in behind rivals on a sloppy track last out, edging closer on the turn but fading badly in the stretch. SMOKEN WICKED, Grade 2-placed in his first start at Saratoga last fall, set the pace in the Grade 1 Hopeful next out and continued his best running in long sprints with a runaway allowance win and two seconds in minor stakes. T KRAFT showed marked improvement to start his sophomore season with three consecutive wins at Aqueduct, capped by a neck victory in his first stakes try. He was freshened three months, ranged up inside of the leaders in the Woody Stephens but lacked stretch kick in the muddy going. Trainer Todd Pletcher’s hopes for a fifth Amsterdam hinge on a pair of late runners uncoupled in the wagering. GATE TO WIRE benefited from a torrid pace in his lone sprint try on a fast track and ran away from MACHO MUSIC to win the Swale Stakes at 13-1. UNCAGED, well-beaten in the Grade 1 Belmont, is reunited with jockey Kendrick Carmouche, who coaxed a last-to-first move out of him in a one-turn, one mile allowance after a bobbled start. GUNMETAL drew clear to win two 6F races with 96 and 93 Beyers, respectively, but he hit the gate in the Grade 1 Woody Stephens and finished last behind winning stablemate Patch Adams (3-6, $497k).

SAR 10th race (6:27 p.m. EST) -- CATHOLIC EDITION, unhurried to the far turn, rallied widest and finished third in a well-bet, one mile debut. She flattened out late against the rail-riding winner and will need some pace flow in this longer route. PROFESSOR GRACE, who chased the 3-to-5 winner in a 6F dirt sprint two back, could provide that pace if she avoids recurring trouble lines. She improved and finished behind the three favorites in MSW company at this distance last out. The sire of both runners, Catholic Boy, was 5-for-6 on turf with more than $1 million in grass earnings and three graded stakes victories in photo finishes.

      Suggested $1 Pick 3
      SAR 8th Race: 1, 3, 4, 6
      SAR 9th Race: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
      SAR 10th Race: 3, 4
      Cost: $48

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Del Mar - Race #6
#2 Lavender Love She was kind of one paced in the debut, but she didn't get the easiest go of things that day and may have some upside with that one behind her. Wouldn't be surprised to see a LOT better today.
#8 Ride Elbow Ranch Tactical type has just gone a bit flat in the late stages of her first few races, but she still seems like a good fit here on form with some fairly reliable efforts so far.
#9 Ridegold Forward player is another who has been a bit dicey in the final yards, but she looks competitive here with another good run waiting for her.
Race Summary Lavender Love looks like she may have enough upside to make some noise here at an OK price. The other listed pair figure to command some cash off decent lines, but I don't totally trust either of them inside the final sixteenth.
        Del Mar - Race #7
#3 Om N Joy She has really put things together recently, rattling off three in a row and handling several of these while doing it. The one to beat right back.
#10 Fibonacci's Ride Considered this one on top with some room to bounce back after the flat chasing run last time out. There is a little bit of quality here on her better days -- maybe today is one of them?
#11 Ellen Jorth Positional player draws well to spy the pace the whole way, and she probably still has a little bit of upside after just two starts. One of the ones.
Race Summary Om N Joy should be tough right back in search of a fourth win in a row, but I won't be upset if Fibonacci's Ride lands this one at a price -- will have her covered.
        Del Mar - Race #3
#13 Rumpus in Paradise This team has done some really good work with these kinds of local runners over the last few years, so I'm willing to start my paddock and post parade work by taking a look at this filly. Edge if she goes.
#8 Tina's Princess She showed a touch of pace at Los Al in those first two starts, and those probably aren't too far off what the rest of these are going to need to bring today. In the mix.
#1 That Ain't Right Dropped has just been a bit outrun through two starts, but this easier bunch gives her some room to wake up. Still, mild worry about the rail draw in a big group.
Race Summary Rumpus in Paradise goes first out for a team that has been really reliable with these young claiming types here recently, and I'm hoping something like the 6/1 ML offering will hold up if she can draw in.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Saratoga - Race #2
#5 LADY ARWEN (5-1) Finished 1-2 in last four starts on fast strip, might have been best at this distance.
#4 SPRING MAGIC (5-2) Finished between pair of sub 2-to-1 favorites in long sprint at this level.
#2 KILLY START (2-1) Heavily bet in three starts at this level, rallied into fast pace for second at 6-1/2F.
Race Summary LADY ARWEN steps up in class after she rallied to win at one mile off the claim. She has two wins and two seconds in her last four starts on a fast track, including a runner-up finish at today’s distance after she was bumped in the hindquarters at the start and relegated to the back of the pack. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-4 exactas.
          Saratoga - Race #3
#1 SHARON HORIZONS (2-1) Sire & dam of Brown firster were 11-19 overall with $14 million turf bankroll.
#4 ASHES AND DIAMONDS (3-1) Tough trip last out, back on turf, dam was 0-4 with average 66 Beyer on lawn.
#5 BOURBON MILK PUNCH (3-1) Has speed, ‘fought on well’ to the quarter pole in longer grass route.
Race Summary SHARON HORIZONS will try to follow the footsteps of her dam, Roca Rojo, who won her first two starts in Ireland and two graded stakes in the U.S. after she entered the barn of trainer Chad Brown. Her rivals are a combined 12/0-1-2 in MSW company on the grass. Bet to win and place.
          Saratoga - Race #5
#6 AUNT NONA (6-1) Has speed, tries to recapture form from key turf sprint to start her career.
#3 PARADE RING (9-5) Solid turf numbers in MSW ranks, but $30k claim was voided in latest.
#7 SILVER PEARLS (5-2) Second to ‘very fast’ foe as 6F fave on Aqueduct lawn, sheds blinks off claim.
Race Summary AUNT NONA is a must play at a tempting 6-1 morning-line price. She has yet to run back to her debut a year ago when she finished behind recent 2X allowance winners Risk Threshold and Out Too Late, not to mention Scarlet Poppy, who got beat 1-1/4 lengths in a Grade 2 turf stakes last month. But she had a useful comeback in a weak, turf-to-dirt sprint race and can put her speed to good use. Bet to win and place and play 6-3, 6-7 and 3-6 exactas.

                #1 HALCON NEGRO (ML=12/1)
                #6 TOP BEAR (ML=8/1)

ADMIRAL NELSON - My buddies and I have made bucks playing ponies with this type of pace. Follow my advice and do the same. This thoroughbred earns a lot of money per race around the track. I believe he can increase the lifetime total in this event. HALCON NEGRO - This gelding should be in top form, this far into his form cycle. TOP BEAR - First-timer has been working over this very track. I think that's a big plus in his favor. The addition of the 'hood' usually means that a trainer wants a campaigner to show more early zip or to keep his attention focused.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 KAIROS MOMENT (ML=3/1), #8 BIG LEW (ML=7/2),

KAIROS MOMENT - This gelding showed very liitle last time. BIG LEW - Woodbine isn't a favorite hang out to this mount.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #9 ADMIRAL NELSON is the play if we get odds of 9/5 or better

                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 5 FRASER LANDING 3/1
                  # 6 BUCK'S FIZZ 6/1
                  # 3 PRINCE CAIRO 5/2
FRASER LANDING is my choice. May see a reversal of fortune with blinkers going on in this event. With Santo on top him, this gelding ought to be able to break out sharply in this event. With a very good 71 Equibase speed fig last time out, will clearly be a factor in this contest. BUCK'S FIZZ - He ought to be given consideration given the very good speed figures. Has been racing in the most competitive company of the group of horses recently.

                    Belterra Park - Race #1 - Post: 11:15am - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 88

                    Rating:

                    #4 MISSION MIKE (ML=6/1)

MISSION MIKE - The jockey and handler combination here have a high win percent when they join forces. Lebron is right back for another event today after racing atop this equine for the first ride on Jul 12th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. Have to make this gelding a contender; he comes off a strong race on July 12th.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 ATTA BOY ANTHONY (ML=9/5), #5 DONTKISSDAMINISTER (ML=5/2), #2 AMERICAN PURE (ML=3/1),

ATTA BOY ANTHONY - This mount ran a disappointing speed fig last out. He shouldn't run much better and will likely suffer defeat in today's race running that fig. DONTKISSDAMINISTER - This gelding hasn't been showing me anything in the last couple of outings. AMERICAN PURE - This gelding registered a speed fig in his last event which probably isn't good enough in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 MISSION MIKE to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

Race 3 - Maiden Claiming - 6.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $16000 Class Rating: 52

FOR ACCREDITED LA BRED MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 121 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $10,000.
                      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                      # 1 GOLDEN MADDNES 8/1
                      # 4 MALLORY UNBRIDLED 4/1
                      # 2 GLOBAL VALUE 10/1
GOLDEN MADDNES appears to be the bet in here especially at a long price. This group is much softer than the last one she faced. If you examine closely, this horse has some longshot possibilities. A solid 74 avg Equibase class figure may give this filly a distinct class edge against this field. MALLORY UNBRIDLED - Zenon is serious with this one, wheeling her back almost immediately. Her chances to score are much better this time out facing this less demanding lot. GLOBAL VALUE - Look for a much better outing with the drop.
