Northfield Park begins the week with a 16-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:50 PM EDT)

1-My Red Sea (7/5)-The 5-year-old has a solid resume and should have her way with this field at a tiny price. Wasn't one of the top pacers at Yonkers but cashed small checks in the Borgata Pacing Series and has been doing well on 5/8's tracks in Ohio. The last time at Nfld came 2nd in a Distaff with a $75k purse in early June. Since then, has been battling Open company and tonight drops to meet a beatable field.

Race 12 (10:13 PM EDT)

2-Lisa Lefteye (8-1)-Drew off by over 2 lengths last week and should fit well with this crew with the inside draw. Went gate to wire last time and that same plan could be used here. Has been good at Nfld (5-1-1-2) and should be racing at the top or close to it. The 4-year-old is well worth a swing at anything close to the program price.
8-Athleta (8-1)-Started in the 2nd tier and broke stride last week at 8/5. Was in the same race as the one above and now gets a positive driver change as Aaron Merriman gets the nod. If the contest has a lively pace this mare could tackle the leader down the lane at a solid number.
9-Vel Sharp Looking (3-1)-Will toss the last race, took the long way around leaving from post 7. Tonight, it will be 3rd start for the Schillaci barn and this is the 3rd race since shipping in from Stga. This post draw could work, the 2 horses on the inside should be leaving. If Luke Ebersole works a cozy trip and stays close to the leader it could be picture time at a fair price.

Race 13 (10:36 PM EDT)

1-Queen of Fear (4/5)-Here is the only 3-year-old in the race and will be a small payout. Normally that could be a play against angle, but this is different. Lands in an advantageous condition and has only 3 wins but has banked over $169,000. Draws the rail and its favorite route is to get on the point and not look back. Unless it is simply an off night, or somehow the trip is really bumpy, this should be the winner.

Race 14 (10:59 PM EDT)

2-Premier Fine Wine (15-1)-Will fade the rail horse at 1/1 who hasn't race in over a month, and look for some value to make this ticket worthwhile. Chris Lems takes the lines and could get an efficient journey. Looks like a trip-out possibility at a big price.
5-Feree Fiero (6-1)-Draws well, Kurt Sugg returns after a 1-race absence and this is the 3rd race in town. Has the gate speed to get a close-up seat and should be in the mix down the lane at a square price.
9-She's Real (3-1)-The post makes the price and if John Ciocca gets away off the car with a decent seat this 3-year-old could cash the top check. Likes to race near the top of the stack and could get there.

The Saratoga racing week wraps up Sunday after the buzz of a Jim Dandy Saturday. Turf route mares go at it in the featured Grade 2 $250,000 Glens Falls Stakes, which will be Race 7.

Saratoga | Race 3 | 2:18 pm ET

#6 Royal Guard (9-2 morning line odds) makes his career debut at a mile on turf with a fascinating pedigree. By a Champion 2-Year-Old on dirt in Essential Quality, the female side of the lineage is all European grass. His third dam (great-great-grandmother) named Shadayid was a multiple Group 1-wining miler overseas, including the 1991 English One Thousand Guineas. Trainer Brad Cox is winning north of 40% of his races in July. Win bet #6. Daily Double 6-7 to next play.

Saratoga | Race 4 | 2:52 pm ET

#7 Art Fair (7-2 morning line odds) is fast enough to clear from the outside post in this 1-mile race out of the Wilson Chute. Jockey Flavien Prat has been slumping at the Spa of late, but a one-day road trip to Del Mar on Saturday might clear the mind and get him back on task. He’s been far and away the Spa’s best rider out of the Wilson Chute, winning 29% with a colony-best 10 victories since its inception. Win bet #7.

Saratoga | Race 7 | 4:35 pm ET

#2 No Show Sammy Jo (9-2 morning line odds) was even-money favorite against several of these at Aqueduct and was nursed along too casually on the front end. She kicked nicely in the stretch only to be run down by a flying return-rival La Mehana, but she actually galloped out past that one in a show that she wasn’t tired, but rather didn’t have the momentum at the wire. The price inflates today and it’s time to buy hoping Manny Franco either rides more aggressively or allows a fresh face to set the tone and pounce first. Win bet #2. Exacta key-box 2 with 1,6.

Del Mar - Race #8

#4 Naples Gal	She ran in an OK spot here last summer in her only previous start and now returns with blinkers and Lasix while trying the main track. The comeback works have looked good enough. Why not?
#7 Margarita Girl	Pressing pace has handled several different types of trips so far, but she has come up just a bit empty late in the lane in all four starts. Obvious player with some dangerous pace, but that's also been the case in her four losses -- at 3/5, 1/2, 7/5, and 3/5. Happy to let her beat me.
#9 Usha	Kind of a similar profile to Margarita Girl for this one, and she draws well to prompt that one's pace, but she has been flat in the final yards of her races and seems vulnerable to getting picked up again.
Race Summary	Naples Gal has some appeal off the bench while trying a few new things. I like the race she ran in here last year on the turf, and I think she'll be ready for better today.

Del Mar - Race #9

#5 Gold Phoenix	There are a couple races on his page that would keep him in the frame today even if he might be better going just a bit longer. Think he'll get an OK race flow today, and he has always done pretty good work here.
#4 Formidable Man	Was a bit disappointed with the effort overall last time out, but he has been a menace over the local course and looks tough with this crew while getting back here.
#7 Cabo Spirit	He should find himself in a really perfect kind of pressing/pace spot depending on what Balladeer wants to do from one stall outside of him. He can lead or press, but he should be in a great spot into the far turn either way. Chance.
Race Summary	Gold Phoenix might be able to land this one with some tougher-than-they-look races on his page. His local record has been pretty solid, and the race flow might be fair enough to give him a chance.

Del Mar - Race #11

#1 Warm Reception	She debuted in a pretty good spot last year and may be ready for something better while going second time out with Lasix and a bit more maturity. Not a lot of speed in here -- wonder if she'll find a forward spot from the fence?
#4 Goatski	She debuted in an OK spot behind a nice winner, and she may be able to translate that kind of finishing effort into something tactical around two turns. Worry she's overbet.
#5 Hello Kid O Kid O	She has had some chances already, but she should find a really good spot near the top in this spot while meeting a group that is mostly committed to running late.
Race Summary	Warm Reception may be ready for better today at a solid price. She didn't have the easiest trip in her career debut here last summer and isn't meeting a ton of seriously established form.

SURF'S UP - Running 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This horse has the tops in the bunch. Was in a Maiden Special race at Gulfstream Park last out. That race had a class number of 89 and he is moving down in this race. A certain solid contender. Weaver has a very solid win pct in turf sprints. This gelding should be ready to win. This gelding registered a nice speed fig of 81 in his last event. That rating should be strong enough to win this time out. Solid average class rating on this horse. Should have the ability to run well on the turf. MAGIC BAY - Bowman and Velazquez partnered with one another are a handicapper's friend. Have to like the way Velazquez has raced this colt back into shape off the layoff. Animal is well spotted in this sprint and I think he'll run well today. Forgive the out of the money finish on the off track last out. On a non-sloppy track, has a chance right here. Adding blinkers often leads to a better race on the racetrack. TARTARIAN - Based on works, I look for this gelding to run a big race. Likes to go to the lead and the fact that today is a shorter distance should help. Strong average class rating on this horse. Should have the class ability to run well on the turf.

1^st race [Alw 20000s, 1 1/8 mi] – (4) Colonial Rose was a winner at this level last month at Churchill Downs after overcoming some early trouble. Regular rider Jose Ortiz stays on board. (5) Our Liberty Belle has hit the board in her last three starts at distances ranging from six furlongs to a mile and is a past two-turn winner. (1) Whistler’s Style and (1A) Conquito make a Linda Rice entry where both are win contenders. (6) Pistol Liz Ablazen was claimed from a victory for $32,000 in April and gets needed class relief here.
6^th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 7F] – (4) Inonit (D) was bet down from 5-1 to be the 5-2 favorite and finished fourth in his second start of the year. He comes back from an April layoff with first-time Lasix. (2) Keepinitreal finished in the top three in all three of his starts including his 2025 debut in June. (5) Long Pour sold for $85,000 from a $5,000 stallion. (6) Twohonestmischief has four third-place finishes in a row in 2025.
9^th race [OC 50k/N1X, 1 mi] – (1) Reddington (B) races for the $50,000 claiming option and drops down from three starts in much tougher allowances where he did win in April. (6) Warrior Richard was first and second in his last two races in a $50,000 claimer and an allowance at Churchill Downs and Kentucky horses are doing well at this meeting. (2) Cut the Cord set the pace and finished second by a neck in the second-level NY-bred allowance last month. Blinkers go on. (5) Gamblers Tail ships up from Churchill also with a third and a pair of wins in his last four races.
10^th race [Md 100000, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (7) Blast Furnace (C) was second by a nose after a battle down the stretch in an identical spot at Aqueduct last month when he was bet down from 12-1 to 7-1. (1) Ennis Town was second and third in his only two starts on the grass which were in Maryland since the beginning of June. He is listed as a new gelding. (5) Atomic Age has been off since October when he was second at Aqueduct for Chad Brown. (11) Antietam also comes back from a prolonged winter layoff, moves from dirt to turf, and goes in for a tag for the first time.
Best bets: Colonial Rose (1^st); Reddington (9^th). Best value: Inonit (6^th); Blast Furnace (10^th).
