Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    July 28, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5, and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

3-Mach N Cheese (10-1)-Looking for a price with a suspect bunch and will fade the rail horse at 7/5. The Mike Forte entry could stay close to the leaders with this post draw and roll by down the lane. That script was followed back in April and is overdue for another win.
5-Peace Out Posse (6-1)-Drops again and may finally wake up. The team Stratton trainee was pace compromised in last and did go the back half in 54.3 but a 58.3 first half hurt chances. Looking for a square price and this affair should have an honest pace.
7-Churchviewfrankl IR (5-1)-Made the first start for the Lachance barn and couldn’t catch the leader. Did take some money and might be used aggressively off the car this time. If the start goes well the finish should too, best to not overlook.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Why Tomorrow Ray (8/5)-Program chalk was flat down the lane in last but missed a start between races. Will offer a short price but Bartlett is in a better spot to control the mile. Has consistently been in the hunt and this time might be ready to seal the deal.
5-Ameritric (7/2)-Came off a win 2 back then was bet down to 8/5 in last and came 2nd in the same race as the program chalk. Got involved in a contentious opening quarter leaving from the rail. Never really got a break and was overtaken by the pocket horse. This race could set up differently, the price will be better and Jim Marohn has options leaving from post 5.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

4-American Dealer N (2-1)-Linda Toscano 8-yr-old is only 2 for 13 this year and those wins came way back in April. Has been trying but most important gets needed class relief now and Jason Bartlett steers for the first time since the veteran arrived at Yonkers.
5-Manferno (3-1)-Comes off a sharp win from post 8 against $60k claimers. This will be a test, but the Stratton entry doesn’t look out of place and the post draw should help. Has big gate speed and Tyler Buter could land on the point when the wings fold. In 14 races driving for this barn, Buter has posted 6 wins and should offer a fair price tonight.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Rock The Belles (6-1)-Went a 52.3 mile 2-back leaving from post 5 to lose by a neck. Tried to go gate to wire that night and the same last week. Was used hard from post 6 to get on the point and the trip took its toll. My take is Dan Dube gets a pocket ride here and is worth a swing at close to the morning line price.
2-Vici (3-1)-Dropped to face this kind in last but was stuck with post 7. Will toss the no-move mile and now George Brennan gets the assignment. This is a different horse when leaving from the inside and should be in the hunt from start to finish.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    3,5,7/1,5/4,5/1,2
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#7 Corinna She posted the 8/1 score off the bench at Penn last time out, and I love that she has the versatility to let her rider find a spot based on how things play out into the first turn. Lots to like right back.
#8 Candy Reward Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here outside of the potential for the price to get a bit short if bettors think she holds that form from the first two starts of the year. Tough with something like her last.
#6 Foxy Junior She's another with some pretty honest form and competitive stakes tries on her page, but I'm not totally sold that the local footing is her best game.
Race Summary Corinna looked sharp in the comeback score, and something similar would probably keep her in the picture here if she handles the synthetic surface here.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#7 Spirited Sol He often outruns his odds, especially after a mild run like he turned in last time out, so I'm hoping he's sitting on another one of those bounce-back efforts at a better price today.
#10 Diamond Dust Better stuff would handle this crew, and the move to an outside draw gives him plenty of room to bounce back after the inside pace fade last time out.
#1 Hector He's got pretty honest local form and can probably work out a trip from the fence while saving some ground behind the quicker players. Would want him on the tickets.
Race Summary Spirited Sol has some midrange price appeal from what might turn out to be a pretty perfect spying spot. Expecting better today.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#10 Fillyrules She didn't stay the route trip last time out, but the cutback gives her some room for better with a two-back run on her page that would probably do the job here.
#7 Starship Legacy She's back down in price to the level where she ran that good one in June at 45/1, and I wonder if something along those lines would bring her on late for a piece of this. Price won't be nearly as fun as the last time she ran with this kind.
#1 Itza Kitty Dropper gets a chance at this level for the first time after a couple of even efforts for twice this price, but those don't seem out of line with what it'd take to score here. One of the ones.
Race Summary Fillyrules looks interesting enough here while cutting back to try a sprint at this level for the first time, and I'd be happy to take her at something a bit shorter than the 6/1 ML price.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Fort Erie - Race #1
#3 KIDDIE HOLIDAY (7-2) Rallied against strong track bias at this distance, today’s Best Bet.
#2 HEY CUE (8-5) Finished behind ‘Kiddie’ but gets in light and can maximize his speed.
#1 ALWAYS A WAY (6-1) Rallied for a win and a second to start season, too far back in latest.
Race Summary KIDDIE HOLIDAY is a good value play and a must use in all exotic wagers. He rallied 6-wide in the stretch two starts ago and finished third on a sloppy track that yielded all six winners on the card by a combined 27 lengths. He rallied 3-wide last out in a shorter sprint for third, finishing ahead of a next-out winner. Bet to win and place and play 3-1 and 3-2 exactas.
        Fort Erie - Race #5
#1 PAPERBACK HERO (2-1) Stretches out off decent sprint form, runs for $4k for second time in career.
#2 MISTRESS MESEEKS (9-2) Rallied wide into slow pace at 7F on turf, has three wins at this distance.
#4 SPRING MOUNTAIN (9-5) Won only two starts at Fort Erie last fall, tuned up for this at Woodbine.
Race Summary PAPERBACK HERO finished third from on and off the pace sprinting in four starts this year against much better rivals. He’s only 1-for-8 at the distance but can build on his 28/8-9-7 Fort Erie record nonetheless. Bet to win and place and play 1-2 and 1-4 exactas.
        Fort Erie - Race #6
#6 DELIRIO (2-1) Sat good trip, ran third in seasonal debut, has maiden romp on FE turf to summon.
#1 PLAY THE DOTS (6-1) Sheds blinkers, met four eventual $80k-plus earners in his only start on turf.
#3 FOREST WOODSMAN (5-2) Good speed, blew clear lead against Delirio in much-improved effort.
Race Summary DELIRIO, in a good ground-saving position on the turn, was out-kicked by a pair of closers in the same spot off a layoff. He romped to his maiden win at Fort Erie last fall in his only start on the lawn. Bet to win and place and play 6-1 and 6-3 exactas.

              # 4 BIG DRINKER 3/1
I've got to go with GABARRA. With a competitive 92 speed fig last time out, will clearly be a factor in this race. With a sound 73 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's outing. INCREDIBLE SHOT - He has been running solidly and the speed figs are among the most favorable in this field. Is a key contender - given the 83 speed fig from his most recent race. BIG DRINKER - He has been running quite well and the Equibase speed figs are among the most respectable in this group. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Wong running at this distance are the strongest in this field.

                Mountaineer Park - Race #2 - Post: 7:25pm - Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 72

                Rating:

                #7 WHATCHAMACALL (ML=5/1)
                #10 GIRL BYE (ML=3/1)
                #2 RAISE THE PRAISE (ML=15/1)
                #4 MAGGIE (ML=6/1)

WHATCHAMACALL - Average Equibase class figure is tops in this bunch. I think that is a big edge for a race on the turf. This equine didn't run well on the soft turf in her last start at Mountaineer Park. You should ignore that showing. GIRL BYE - In my opinion, you need 'class' to be successful on the grass. This one has the highest average class rating in the field. RAISE THE PRAISE - Have to like the way Inman has raced this mare back into shape off the layoff. Horse is well spotted in this sprint and I think she'll run well today. Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier group than in the last race at Mountaineer Park. A definite class advantage goes to this horse. A pretty good sign she will be very competitive in this turf race. MAGGIE - Farrior brings her right back. I advise you stick with this hot mare. I like when a thoroughbred wins after shipping in from elsewhere. It shows that they really like the track here. I'll take this mare to win again. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #1 CLAIRE'S DARLING (ML=2/1), #9 RAINBOW TROUT (ML=8/1), #5 HONOUR'S CHOICE (ML=8/1),

CLAIRE'S DARLING - I don't normally play a chalk horse that hasn't been to the track in the last three weeks. RAINBOW TROUT - You always think this horse has a shot to be victorious, but she just misses frequently. HONOUR'S CHOICE - Hard to play a low class level horse like this after back to back tough stretch runs.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #7 WHATCHAMACALL on the win end if we get at least 6/1 odds

                  # 1 BIG TO DO 15/1
I think CLYDE'S GOT A GUN is a very good choice. Had one of the most respectable Equibase Speed Figures of this group in his last contest. Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this pony look formidable in this contest. QUATROCENTO - Has formidable Speed Figures and has to be considered for a wager in this race. This colt looks good in this competition since Gutierrez has a sharp winning percentage with horses going this distance.

                    Prairie Meadows - Race #11 - Post: 8:17pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,000 Class Rating: 82

                    Rating:

                    #1 COUNT DE MONET (ML=5/2)
                    #6 LIONS NOT SHEEP (ML=9/2)

COUNT DE MONET - All systems look good for this gelding. Last work, 2nd fastest of the day, shows he's fit and ready. As long as Bacon keeps this pony off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a big winner. I like this gelding. Has the uppermost earnings per start (EPS) in here today. Sub-par effort in the last race at Prairie Meadows was due to the off-going (he ended up fifth). I'd expect a better race in this race on a fast track. LIONS NOT SHEEP - I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough efforts since the layoff and should be fit.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #3 WICKLOW LADDIE (ML=7/2), #4 JUST A IRISH LAD (ML=5/1), #5 BLUEGRASS BREEZE (ML=6/1),

JUST A IRISH LAD - Ran well to finish second on Jun 21st, but hasn't had even a drill since then. You can't keep making rationalizations for a thoroughbred that just doesn't win. Don't play him. When examining today's Equibase class figure, he will have to notch a better speed figure than in the last race to be competitive in this dirt sprint. BLUEGRASS BREEZE - This runner will have a tough time winning this 6 furlongs dirt race. He just doesn't win races very often. Tough to support any thoroughbred that runs as well as he did and then lays up and doesn't workout at all.
