Analysis: 909 Toronto at Detroit The Blue Jays continue to ride high with another road win last night in Detroit. They now have the second best record in baseball, right behind the equally hot Brewers. This is a club that ended the first half of the season hot, and have continued to knock the cover off the ball in the second half. They have played seven games since the All-Star Break, scoring four or more runs in each game. What makes it more impressive is those victories came against the Giants, Yankees and Tigers. Three teams who are currently a combined 31 games over .500. In looking at wRC+ over the last two weeks the Jays come in at 4th with a 122 wRC+, while the Tigers are dead last at 68. Jose Berrios has a 3.87 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 4.71 xERA. But 6 of the last 7 seasons the Jays righty has outperformed his expected numbers. Toronto’s bullpen enters this contest fully rested. While the Tigers bullpen is also in very good shape, we don’t really trust Keider Montero. He’s bounced up and down from the minors all season, and has made eight starts with Detroit. He comes in with a 4.28 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 4.50 xERA. His career numbers are 4.56 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and he had a 5.24 xERA last year. The Tigers are in a major tailspin right now, while the Blue Jays are playing very impressive ball. This line should be much higher for the road squad. PLAY TORONTO 5% Good to -128 4% to -138

The Red Sox were outplayed in Philadelphia, only to take advantage of walks and a few big home runs to avoid the sweep. The Dodgers won dramatically last night against Minnesota to prevent losing that series. Both teams have struggled lately, but found confidence in their previous game. I am not sold on Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, as his ERA has been high and he hasn’t pitched much this year. Boston starter Bryan Bello has been solid, but his strikeouts are down, and he will be facing a Dodgers lineup that excels against right-handed pitching. Both teams have outstanding slugging percentages against righties and should get on the board a lot. Take the Over.
