Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    August 1, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $2 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Warrior One (9/2)-Winner of 3 straight the last 2 were at YR and this will probably be more of a test but can't be overlooked. Bumps up but could be posing leaving from the inside and with a smooth steer.
3-Warrawee Whisper (4-1)-Minnesota shipper last raced at Aces on 6-15 at the Open level. Put in a sharp qualifier at Yonkers going gate to wire and winning in 155.4. The Dilloian barn does good work with horses coming off layoffs (21%) and George Brennan could benefit from a 2-hole trip.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Full Of Muscles (7/2)-Not sure how to feel about this 7-year-old that has raced at M1 and smaller ovals. Has speed and appears to fit with this group. Will use and hope isn't bet down. My gut stays Brent Holland will try to go gate to wire and if not, a pocket ride could be coming.
2-Torrone (8-1)-This is a proven winner at this level that has been in too deep facing Invites. Colin Kelly steers for the 1st time for the Tom Fanning barn. The veteran likes to get on the engine and not look back, that could happen at a square price.
4-Unevergonnagethis (5/2)-Has been stuck with post 7 the last 2 races and now has an opportunity to be closer to the lead at the 3/4 pole. There is some early speed and Jordan Stratton could be stalking nearby and then be the best down the lane.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Pass And Stow (2-1)-This is a hodge podge group and the mare might be bet down. But is hard to overlook, coming off a gate to wire score. Does bump-up but has beaten this kind and better at the Hilltop. Should get a top of the stack trip again.
3-Chiapanecas (6-1)-Paced the back half in .55 but couldn't make up any ground. Tonight, Mark MacDonald does the steering, and he came a close 3rd versus this kind on 6-13. The Engblom trainee could be put in play early on and can offer a solid price.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

2-Mississippi Storm (5/2)-Returns after spending time at PcD and M1, cashed checks in both but now returns to home field. Its Yonkers record is (110-25-21-21) and the veteran was doing well facing much tougher last time here. Lands in an advantageous condition and should take care of business with a decent trip.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,3/1,2,4/2,3/2
    Total Bet=$24

      Saratoga Pick 3 | Friday, August 1

      August 1, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      SARATOGA PICK 3
      Friday, August 1, 2025

Three winners on Saratoga’s “firm” inner turf course last Saturday rallied from fifth, seventh and eighth going a route of ground. Speed abounds in the featured Grade 2 National Museum Racing Hall of Fame Stakes the Friday, Aug. 1, a good sign for a $30 Pick 3 ticket below that hinges on two runners who figure to pounce on the lively pace.

SAR 6th race (4:02 p.m. EST) -- SCHWARZENEGGER’S quest to pay off on a $950,000 sales buy begins in a 5-1/2F turf sprint against mostly first-time starters. The son of Not This Time, the No.3-ranked sire in progeny turf earnings this year, is working fast on the Saratoga turf training track and in the capable hands of trainer Wesley Ward, who is 39-for-132 with debut 2-year-olds the last three years. From 52 first-time grass starters in that same sample size, 30 were dismissed at 2-1 odds or less. Lead off the Pick 3 with a solo play on SCHWARZENEGGER.

SAR 7th race (4:36 p.m. EST) -- The featured Grade 2 $400,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame drew eight entrants on the inner turf course, which has produced seven winners at less than 5-1 odds and one wire-to-wire winner from the first nine grass routes at the meet. LUTHER, a stakes-winning miler in Europe, was urged from the gate in his U.S. debut at 1-1/8 miles but ‘kicked on belatedly’ nonetheless while 6-wide entering the stretch to just miss the place spot. He gets Rosario to ride and gets plenty of pace to rally into at a good price. ZULU KINGDOM arrived in the U.S. in August after a debut victory in France. He kept his busy travel schedule, visiting five tracks in six starts and winning four graded stakes on the lawn, three in photo finishes and the Grade 1 American Turf at Churchill Downs on soft footing. He projects a perfect stalking trip in his bid to become a three-time graded stakes winner at Saratoga and racing’s newest millionaire.

SAR 8th race (5:10 p.m. EST) -- Going 5-deep and upping the Pick 3 ticket cost to $3 in this $30,000 maiden claimer to close the sequence. OMAHA PISTOL, the beaten favorite in his last two starts, seeks a duplicate of the 7F race from which he was claimed three starts back. He set the pace and earned the top speed figure in today’s field, but settled for second best behind Consider It Done, who won a $50,000 claimer next out by 3 lengths. Well-traveled AMERICAN LITIGATOR makes his first start on the main track for Maryland-based trainer Phillip Capuano and his first against New York breds. He advanced 5-wide on the first turn from post 11 going a route of ground two back but back-pedaled in the lane. COME FULL CIRCLE was 6-wide under urging at the 3/8 pole in his only long sprint attempt on dirt in MSW company. That debut race produced New York Derby winner Train The Trainer (3-4, $260k) and two next-out runners-up with 78 and 70 Beyer speed figures, respectively. In a rare opportunity to get a Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained runner at a big price, use once-beaten THE SAINT on the ticket. AETHERIUM gets Lasix and also gets a longshot call in his debut in a field that has combined for 76 starts, with only nine seconds to show for it.

      Suggested $3 Pick 3
      SAR 7th Race: 4
      SAR 8th Race: 2, 7
      SAR 9th Race: 1, 2, 4, 5, 9
      Cost: $30

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Del Mar - Race #5
#8 Ultimate Hy Her form isn't heading in a great direction, but she has some room to bounce back on the move over to the turf. Price should be OK in hopes she reverses form.
#7 Illhaveanotherkiss She's another who needs to find something better than she offered last out, but the turf routes on her page offer some hope for a rebound here. I wouldn't be too excited, but I also wouldn't argue too hard with anyone looking this way.
#4 Empress Ellie Tactical pace has been pretty tough with claimers over the last year, and her baseline looks about as good as any in here right now.
Race Summary Ultimate Hy and Illhaveanotherkiss both need to reverse form, but I think they may be ready for better. Ultimate Hy was way too close early in that Los Al run and didn't fire, but this is a better game for her.
        Del Mar - Race #6
#7 Western Freedom He's back to his best game right now after not staying involved late going long on the turf, and I like the way his dirt form was heading earlier this year. Good spying trip should be in the cards.
#5 Speedy Wilson Not much to argue about here, as he just handled one of today's main threats listed next. Another who should be in line for a great trip watching the pace unfold.
#2 Shea Brennan He's in really good form right now and wouldn't be any surprise, just think that one or both of the top choices are going to get a jump on him while he turns back.
Race Summary Western Freedom gets back to his best game today on the dirt, and he looks like one of the main players here if you draw a line through the last one.
        Del Mar - Race #7
#6 Regarding Harry He's probably too light for these, but the last one wasn't all bad, and he's got a bit of tactical pace that could leave him in a perfect spot for a first-over run. Price should make the swing fun.
#9 Mav Man Nothing serious from him at 9/2 in the debut run, but he has room to come forward off that run for a team that is capable with these types.
#1 Vodka Vodka Could see him getting a pretty cozy run of things from the inside while tucked in behind the quicker players early, and but he'll need to be ready to fire off the year break.
Race Summary Regarding Harry ran OK in his turf debut at Turf Paradise last time out, and I wonder if he has a claim on this one from close range at a nice price.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Saratoga - Race #1
#2 MONEYBAGS MILTON (3-1) Barn popped with well-bet runaway yesterday, Irad gets the call.
#1 ONE MORE FREUD (9-5) Works say ‘all set’ for good first-out barn, rail wasn’t good Thursday.
#5 CAITLINS THREES (6-1) Sire was champion sprinter, dam was 6-29 and stakes winner of $316k.
Race Summary Trainer Amelia Green unleashed a second-out MSW runaway in Thursday’s first race and will try to do the same with debut runner MONEYBAGS MILTON, one of three 2-year-old colts facing three fillies in the opener. His sire was a debut winner at Saratoga, a Grade 2 winner at 7F and a $598k earner. Bet to win and place and play 2-1 and 2-5 exactas.
          Saratoga - Race #3
#5 MERCY WARREN (9-5) Gets class relief, projects good trip, can return to her winning ways.
#3 APRIL ANTICS (12-1) Rallied for third at 7F in improved try off the claim, use underneath in exotics.
#1 GONE AND FORGOTTEN (2-1) Edged clear at 6F and 7F, plenty of back class to win again at 1M.
Race Summary MERCY WARREN’S three-race winning streak came to a sudden stop with stretch fades in her last three starts against better company out of town. She got eligible for this race the day she was claimed and, with speed to her inside and out, could sit an ideal stalking trip on a track that catered to several 3- and 4-wide winners on yesterday’s card. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-3 exactas.
          Saratoga - Race #5
#6 KADENA (2-1) Couldn’t keep up in fast and productive long sprint at this level, goes well in here.
#4 FORTUNA MIA (9-5) Just missed after exiting March stakes, first try for less than six figs since debut.
#1 TWIRLING GOOD TIME (3-1) Strong works at Saratoga for 30-percent barn with these layoff types.
Race Summary KADENA angled 6-wide for the stretch drive in a similar spot two back but was no match for winning stablemate Dolomite or third-place finisher Save Us Melania, who navigated fast interior fractions and returned with 88 and 84 Beyer speed figures, respectively, in follow-up victories. Bet to win and place.

              Race 2 - Claiming - 8.5f on the Turf. Purse: $31000 Class Rating: 85

GP - R5 - FOR FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD OR FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 125 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $17,500.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 7 ALWAYS ADRIANA 5/2
              # 4 MONEY BOUQUET 12/1
              # 5 SUPERS LUCKY LADY 3/1
I think ALWAYS ADRIANA is a decent choice. This filly obviously likes the distance, going 2 - 4 in her races as of late. Could best this field based on the Equibase Speed Fig - 84 - of her last affair. With a formidable 77 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. MONEY BOUQUET - Has to be given a shot against this field displaying formidable figures as of late and an average speed figure of 80 under similar conditions. SUPERS LUCKY LADY - Displays reliable speed figures on average overall when measured up against the rest of this group. Meneses will almost certainly be able to get this mare to break out early in here.

                # 6 OH EAGLE ROSE 9/2
                # 7 RUN ON MONDAY 7/2
I've got to go with JESS TELLING BEAU. Is a very strong contender based on figs earned lately under today's conditions. Recorded a respectable Equibase Speed Fig last time out. Is hard not to consider given the company run in lately. OH EAGLE ROSE - Ran a solid last race. He looks quite good in this spot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint. RUN ON MONDAY - The Equibase class rating of today's race is much lower than his last contest. A solid 78 avg class fig may give this gelding a distinct class edge against this group of animals.

                  Del Mar - Race #7 - Post: 7:07pm - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $80,000 Class Rating: 87

                  Rating:

                  #1 VODKA VODKA (ML=8/1)
                  #10 CURLIN COMMAND (ML=4/1)
                  #4 BIG BILL (ML=7/2)
                  #8 SHAPOVAL (ML=10/1)

VODKA VODKA - As long as Desormeaux keeps this pony off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a happy winner. This thoroughbred has recorded the best recent turf speed fig at the distance-surface. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fourth). Should improve in this event, with some pretty good odds. This pony broke from the outside at Del Mar last time out, racing 1 mile, but is getting a low post in this race, which should help his chances today. CURLIN COMMAND - You'll be making money left and right by turning your racing money onto this jock/handler combination. This thoroughbred earns a lot of cash per start. I believe he can augment the lifetime total in this race. BIG BILL - Faces state bred foes today after finishing fifth versus 'open' company on June 15th. In this race here, this thoroughbred has clearly shown signs that he likes the grass. His speed ratings are the highest in the field for this distance & surface. This thoroughbred may have too much power on the turf for the rest of the field. Coming home, he could put these away. Average Equibase class figure is tops in this field. I think that is a big advantage for a turf race. You have to really like that most recent race speed figure, 89, which is the top latest race rating of this group. SHAPOVAL - Always beware the longer priced animal when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race. I just may give this one a chance. Should rebound off last race where he did run out of the money, but was within five lengths at the wire.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #5 BONNEVILLE JIM (ML=5/1), #9 MAV MAN (ML=6/1), #12 BAZOOKA CHARLIE (ML=8/1),

BONNEVILLE JIM - Hard to wager on any animal to turn things around if there is no value to taking the risk. MAV MAN - Improbable that this equine will finish better than he did last time out when ending up ninth.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #1 VODKA VODKA to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/2 or better though
                  EXACTA WAGERS: 1 with [4,8,10]
TRIFECTA WAGERS: 1 with [4,8,10] with [4,8,10] Total Cost: $6
                  SUPERFECTA WAGERS: 1 with [4,8,10] with [4,8,10] with [4,8,10] Total Cost: $6

                    Emerald Downs - Race #7 - Post: 9:36pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,500 Class Rating: 93

                    Rating:

                    #2 WAR CHEST (ML=4/1)

WAR CHEST - Winless in his last three starts, this gelding did win on Apr 28th at Turf Paradise versus tougher competition. ROISTER - This gelding is in good condition, having run a nice race on Jul 18th, finishing second. If this gelding gets out of the gate cleanly, he'll be tough to catch. Just see his most recent speed fig, 91. That one looks good in this bunch. DENNARD - A thoroughbred coming back this rapidly after a strong contest is a good sign. Ran a quick time for the last quarter on Jul 25th at Emerald Downs. Anything close in this field should get the job done.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #5 BERT'S PROSPECT (ML=6/1), #6 RULER OF ANGELS (ML=8/1),

BERT'S PROSPECT - Didn't hit the board on June 8th at Emerald Downs. Followed it up with another less than stellar try. A closer like this one needs a speed battle to set things up and he isn't likely to get one this time. RULER OF ANGELS - I cannot play this habitual non-winner. Gets the job finished once in a while.
