Al Cimaglia:Yonkers Raceway Pick 4 Analysis

    August 4, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway had a 10-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 starts in Race 5. That sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 rolls in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Aye Aye Captain N (7/2)-Missed by a head last week after drawing the rail versus this kind. What cost the Captain last time is it landed 3rd on the rail as the opening quarter went in 27 flat. Will look for Brent Holland to be on the engine or no worse than in the pocket this time off the gate. Either trip could provide the winning difference this week.
5-Street Hawk (8/5)-Drops from the Invites and lands at the level of its last win at Yonkers. Jason Bartlett takes the lines, and he will be aggressive and should be on top or following close behind the Captain. Looks like a main player but might be over bet.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

4-Typhoon Banner N (5/2)-Beat this kind 2 back on the engine and has 7 wins in 30 Yonkers races. Matt Kakaley should be out and rolling as this Joe B entry drops to a level to take a picture.
8-Hemsworth N (7/2)-This one could be overlooked leaving from the 8 hole. But is in sharp form in the last 2 races since returning to town. Has the early speed to get a great seat and should be in mix at the wire if Austin Siegelman provides a sharp steer.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

4-Ameritric (7/2)-Has been good in the last 3 races when drawing a decent post. Needs a trip but Jim Marohn can get a close up seat, maybe on the point and either way that makes the Forte trainee a threat for top honors.
5-Twigs Pub (5/2)-Has been claimed in the last 2 races, finished first 2 back, then came 2nd in the last start and now moves up. Has shown the ability to compete at this level and also has good gate speed to be put in play off the car. Bartlett steers so that will hurt the price but is only 2-26 this year and could still offer a fair return. The Mike Seddon barn wins 30% of 1st starts off a claim.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

3-Royal Desire (8-1)-This is an ugly race, and this is the 2nd straight steer for Brent Holland. The last time the effort was better than the line looked. Raced from the back and went the 2nd half in 54.4 and could get a more efficient trip with this post draw.
5-Renaissance Deo (10-1)-Comes off an even effort after a sick scratch but was off almost 4-weeks between starts. That effort came against $40k claimers and now drops to a soft spot. Doesn't like to win but someone has to take a picture and with this post draw should be in position to take one.
7-Stellar Yankee (3-1)-This veteran has been flat, dull, and racing against better for the most part. This is the level where a wake-up call could be successful. Bartlett drives for Corey Stratton, which doesn't happen often, but it is safe to say an aggressive steer will be coming. Should be forwardly placed and may have met a beatable field.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,5/4,8/4,5/3,5,7
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#4 Claramente She's one of a few in here who are stepping up in solid form, and she should find a really great trip to take the first jump on the far turn.
#1 La Girvina Love the way she's going right now to earn the hike into this allowance spot, and she should be in line for another cozy trip while tucked inside.
#9 Awesome Empress Her local form fits, but I wouldn't want too short a number here given the way she settled underneath in the last pair. In the mix.
Race Summary Claramente and La Girvina both step up in solid form, but the former may offer a slightly better price. I like the way she has come to life over the local footing.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#4 Brindi She has a tiny bit of class to her, and she has handled stakes company on multiple occasions in recent starts. Think she gets a good pressing trip here.
#3 Barbara Joan She's still lightly raced and may have some room to come forward in this third career start, and she's another who figures for that advantageous tracking run.
#6 Twirling Beauty Wouldn't count her out of this one -- she looked good scoring at Monmouth last time out and can probably relax just enough to avoid getting into too tough an early battle.
Race Summary Brindi can play the part here while looking to step back into the winner's circle -- she was a bit too far back last out and should get a more tactical run today.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#8 Preyathousandwords Not sold at all that she's going to stay the trip, but the front end should be....totally there for the taking? Not much other speed to bother this stretchout type, and she's theoretically bred to get the trip.
#6 Stroke of Luck Reliable type has been sharing with similar in recent starts, and she looks like the most honest in a bad bunch. Seems like you could do worse than landing here as a default horse.
#3 High Track She's another who fits, but she has had a lot of chances and tends to settle for pieces. Wouldn't be a shock on overall form, but I'm not sure how you land here with a ton of confidence.
Race Summary Preyathousandwords has stretchout speed in a paceless race. That simple?

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Ellis Park - Race #2
#7 INFINITE LUCK (9-2) Proven miler seeks return to pre-claim form after he was eased last out.
#1 INTERLOCK EMPIRE (3-1) Dueled before trip sitters arrived June 20, lacked kick in $30k route off claim.
#3 CASCADE CRUISER (4-1) Claimed by top NY-based trainer in May, all-or-nothing type on the class drop.
Race Summary INFINITE LUCK, eased when last seen six weeks ago, runs for the cheapest claiming price of his career off the claim. He had two wins and a second in his prior three starts at one mile, beating follow-up winners twice. Bet to win and place and play a 7-1, 7-3 and 7-4 exactas.
        Ellis Park - Race #3
#3 GUARDIAN (6-1) Used in duel before winning fave passed by, won at distance at Churchill in prior start.
#8 BRAVE BLEND (5-2) Average 70 Beyer in his last six starts at 6-1/2F and beyond translates well.
#4 INDY CHARGES ON (3-1) Finished 1-2 at three tracks in last four starts, can stalk and pounce on live pace.
Race Summary GUARDIAN, claimed out of a maiden win from Eclipse Award-winning trainer Brad Cox, was cooked in a fast-paced duel for $50k in his Ellis Park debut. Bermuda Blitz (7/2-2-1, $125k) rallied to win as the favorite. Bet to win and place and play 3-4 and 3-8 exactas.
        Ellis Park - Race #4
#5 TROUBLESHOOTING (2-1) Has had no trouble transitioning to grass in stakes-winning 3yo season.
#3 LITIGATION (7-2) Pounced on torrid pace en route to runaway victory with 91 Beyer in turf debut.
#2 STAR’S IMAGE (3-1) Succumbed to duel in bid to remain perfect on the lawn and top $100k.
Race Summary TROUBLESHOOTING has found his niche in turf sprints. He broke his maiden at this distance on soft footing at Churchill Downs, took aim at proven allowance runner Go Captain (2-8, $240k) but settled for second best, then won a stakes race at Ellis with a similar trip that he could get today. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-3 exactas.

              Prairie Meadows - Race #5 - Post: 5:41pm - Optional Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $47,830 Class Rating: 78

              Rating:

              #2 INTERSTELLA (ML=5/1)
              #3 C'MON LUCKY (ML=2/1)

INTERSTELLA - Multiple wins over the surface right here at Prairie Meadows. Maybe, another trip to the winner's circle in today's race. The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let her get away early they probably won't catch her. It is my opinion that fillys run better the second time they get Lasix. Martin puts this filly on it for the second time today, so give this one a look. C'MON LUCKY - This filly is in good condition, having run a strong race on Jul 18th, finishing third. Look at this pattern of improvement. 54/58/75 are the last three speed figs.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #1 THAT'S OUR VISION (ML=5/2), #4 UNSPOKEN TRUTH (ML=3/1), #5 SHEZAWILDSTORM (ML=4/1),

THAT'S OUR VISION - Not probable that this equine will finish better than she did last time when finishing fourth. UNSPOKEN TRUTH - The move down the stretch drive on Jun 20th indicated to me that this animal will have a tough go of it versus this bunch of stiffer competition. Registered a common speed fig last time out in an Allowance race on Jun 20th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that number. SHEZAWILDSTORM - This equine hasn't been around in either of her last two races. Somewhat easily forgotten speed rating last time out at Prairie Meadows at 1 mile. Don't think this steed will improve too much in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 INTERSTELLA to win if you can get odds of 8/5 or more
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [2,3]

                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 6 ROBERTS REVENGE 5/2
                # 3 RISKY SECRET 7/2
                # 7 LA CHICA DE ORO 15/1
I've got to go with ROBERTS REVENGE. Is difficult not to look at based on Equibase speed figs which have been very strong - 55 avg - of late. Looks very good for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in turf sprint races lately. Likely to see a sound effort with the class drop. RISKY SECRET - With Pena uptop her, this filly ought to be able to break out early for this event. Look for this racer to be close on the wire versus these ponies. LA CHICA DE ORO - Will probably go to the lead and might never look back. Has been racing in the most competitive company of the field recently.

                  # 4 ATTACK 8/1
                  # 6 MALDINI 15/1
TAKE CHARGE TOM is my choice. Is tough not to consider based on Equibase speed figs which have been solid - 91 avg - of late. Has to be carefully examined based on the very good Equibase Speed Fig put up in the last outing. The average class figure alone makes this entrant a solid contender. ATTACK - Shows evidence of the look of a profitable play, averaging a solid 82 speed rating which is one of the top in this group of horses. A solid 89 avg class rating may give this gelding a distinct class edge versus this group. MALDINI - Earning some nice profits in dirt route contests.

                    Century Mile - Race #4 - Post: 2:45pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 84

                    Rating:

#6 GO SPEED RACER GO (ML=10/1)
                    #1 BROWNING ISLAND (ML=7/2)
                    #5 PERFORMATIVE (ML=9/5)

GO SPEED RACER GO - This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's affair is a shorter trip and should increase his chances to win. As the only speedball in the race, I expect this gelding to be long gone. Has run good races in the first or second starts back off of a layoff. Ran on the wrong surface in his last race. The speed rating of 86 on March 7th at Sunland Park two races back is good enough to win this event. This gelding's last speed fig is lofty enough to triumph here, I'll wager on him right back this time. BROWNING ISLAND - Jock jumped on this gelding's back for the first attempt on Jul 18th. Should be in tune with the equine even better this time. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. Taking a trip down in class; has the form to make his presence felt. PERFORMATIVE - Have to make this gelding a win candidate; he comes off a sharp contest on July 18th. Gonzalez and Buffalo partnered together are a horseplayer's friend.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #4 CREDIBILITY (ML=2/1), #3 GO MAMA (ML=9/2), #2 CASSANO (ML=6/1),

CREDIBILITY - The finish of third in the last race shows me that this animal may be going off form. GO MAMA - In any race of 6 furlongs, I like to back a contender that has been on the board in sprint affairs of late. The speed rating last race out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a likely underlay. CASSANO - Today's race is 6 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint event in the last couple months. Not the best of signs. Awfully tough to wager on this vulnerable equine when he hasn't been showing any indications of eagerness of late.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - GO SPEED RACER GO - Taking a very big class fig tumble today. Let's make some money on the big drop.
