Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    August 18, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5 and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

1-Why Tomorrow Ray (9/5)-Came 2nd on 8-4, grinded up but was out closed by Rockin N Talking (3) and missed by a neck. Bartlett and Engblom combo draws the 1 hole and usually needs to be on the point or in the pocket turning for the wire to win. That trip should happen without emptying the tank.
3-Rockin N Talkin (6-1)-Got a smooth steer by Colin Kelly last time and paid off at a square price. Now, Pat Lachance gets the assignment, and this race could set up for a closer. Best to respect as the Megan Scran entry is sharp and could be overlooked tonight

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Sweet Beach Life (5/2)-Comes off a big-time effort leaving from post 7 to miss by a nose. That snapped a 3-race win streak and now bumps up. The Alexander trainee is very sharp and can leave as fast as the gate car. Still fits well and will look for another big try.
3-Endofstory (4-1)-Steps up a couple of levels after crushing the NW20KL5 drawing off by 4 lengths.
Should offer a nice price and could get the pocket behind Sweet Beach and could trip out and double up.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

2-All Class (4-1)-Has cashed small checks in the last 2 races versus this kind. In the first start was off 3 weeks between races and last time drew the 7 hole. The last effort was good, and Bartlett has a post edge on some tough foes this time. This race might be decided by who gets the best trip, and this 5-year-old has the top driver doing the steering.
5-Dunkin (3-1)-Will probably be bet in the 2nd start Lasix. Has been off since 8-9 and was hung out in that mile. If gets off the gate without any missteps, George Brennan should provide the right trip for a picture. If Lasix kicks-in it could be the winning difference.
6-Heza Charttopper A (7/2)-Left from post 4 and wired this type last week. This is a tough race and post 6 makes it more of a challenge. But doesn’t need to lead every step of the way to win. Colin Kelly can provide a sharp steer and he has done well when driving the 5-year-old in the last 3 starts.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

3-Steet Hawk N (5/2)-Beaten chalk versus NW30K L5 now drops to face the NW of $20K, and was in the mix last time. Has come 3rd in the last two against better and if 100% could get back on the winning side of the ledger. Kellyt akes over for Bartlett so that should help the price. Will try to beat the 2nd ML chalk Admiral Hill (6) who is the Engblom-Bartlett entry.
4-Manferno (9/2)-Will look for some value and the Adamczyk entry picks up Brent Holland tonight. That's a positive driver change that could help. Needs a close-up trip and is in spot to race at the top of the stack. Will look for an aggressive steer and could at least land in the pocket off the gate. Has hit the board in 5 of 7 at Yonkers with 4 pictures and the public might overlook.

    $2 Pick 4

    1,3/2,3/2,5,6/3,4
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#5 Kitty of War She's had a lot of tries already, but she has also been pretty solid in her two local starts. She just might like it here, and another reliable run might be enough today.
#1 Rock Tune The line between a $15,000 and a $7,500 spot here can be a bit blurry, but she's dropping in with the cheaper crew today, and her versatility and reliable form make her a threat. Think she's the one to beat, just can't trust her.
#9 Itza Kitty Her two route races were nothing to write home about, but they both came with much better company than she's going to find here. Should find a nice spot while stretching out.
Race Summary Kitty of War has positional pace from a draw that should let her rider find a pretty nice spot into the first turn, and a one-paced, first-jump kind of trip might be exactly what this race calls for.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#6 Analyst Like the fact that a couple of the others are interesting enough to think the price stays just fair enough here, as he's heading in the right direction and might find an OK midpack spot in a race without much pace.
#5 And That's My Story Forward player has had a lot of chances, but he should be able to get a decent jump on most of the proven players in here. Looks like the one to beat, but there is still the wild card...
#1 English Rocker He's got a fun pedigree and isn't meeting the toughest group at first asking, but this is an honest kind of trip to try first time out. Check him out ahead of this.
Race Summary Analyst has a right to be tough with something similar to that last one, and I'm hoping he'll end up in a spot not too far back today while chasing a modest tempo.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#8 Miss Betty Dull try from her in Ohio last time out, but she has some pretty solid local form and might get an OK run of things while settling and trying to finish. Good trip that gives her the jump on the deeper closers?
#1 Ms. Tart She's probably supposed to handle these with her baseline stuff, as she's an honest enough Grade III type meeting a group of mostly minor stakes types and allowance risers. Still, think the top choice is fun enough to have a shot.
#4 B G Warrior Think she's a pretty reasonable alternative here, too, if you're standing against the top choice. Her form isn't all that reliable, but she has some races on the page that would keep her in the game.
Race Summary Miss Betty has some appeal here with a couple of good races on her page locally, and I'm guessing the price should be right at this kind of level off the flat run last out.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #2
#4 LAMBAY (10-1) Beaten fave off eight-month layoff, barn on 6-for-32 run with sprint-to-route angle.
#3 MY MILEY’S VOW (2-1) Disappeared after posting big number at one mile, gets class relief.
#5 QUALITY DANCER (6-5) Finished in the money in 5 of last 6 long-distance tests on the dirt.
Race Summary LAMBAY worked forwardly and was heavily bet but failed to factor in his 5-1/2F seasonal debut. He stretches out in distance for a high percentage barn and is worth a win and place bet at an inflated price. Also play 4-1 and 4-3 daily doubles.
        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
#3 TAMARAC SQUARE (5-1) Good enough turf route form to factor despite barn’s cold spell.
#1 TEMPEST JILL (8-1) Has speed and the rail, can use it well in second long-distance turf test.
#4 GOODY TWO SOCKS (4-1) Pressed slow pace from post 11, beat ‘Tamarac’ in shorter route.
Race Summary TAMARAC SQUARE showed late foot twice on soft turf at one mile recently after she encountered trouble along the way. The barn is on a long winless drought, but the price should be inflated as a result. Bet to win and place and play 3-1, 3-4 and 1-3 exactas.
        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #4
#3 COUNT THE CASH (9-2) True colors showed with blinkers added at this level, value remains.
#4 C V RONIN LEGACY (2-1) First or second at stretch call in 3 of last 5 starts on conventional dirt.
#7 JAKE’S TROUBLE (8-5) Edged top one for runner-up spot in shorter sprint race.
Race Summary COUNT THE CASH recovered from a bumpy start to duel for the lead from post 11 until the deep-closing winner arrived in the stretch. He has to carry his speed a half furlong longer but could do so while wearing blinkers for the second time. Bet to win and place and play 3-4 and 3-7 exactas.

              # 6 GRAY BOY SIX 15/1
              # 1 DASHING AVERY 5/2
BV APRIL looks very good to best this group especially at a long price. The average class figure of 19 makes this one difficult to beat. This racer could upset this field at a big price. There is a competitive chance that this entry's late pace will improve with second time Lasix. DASHING AVERY - Looks formidable for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figures in short races recently. Is a contender - given the 68 Equibase Speed Figure from her most recent race.

                # 5 STUNNING SAPPHIRE 6/1
                # 9 STRADA DEL SOGNO 10/1
BISTINEAU BEAUTY is the strongest bet in this race especially at a long price. Recent figures for the jock - 23 win percent - make this filly stand out in this field. She looks solid in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. Had one of the best Equibase Speed Figs of this group in her last outing. STUNNING SAPPHIRE - Should be given consideration for this event if only for the respectable speed figure recorded in the last race. Her chances to score are much better this time around facing this less demanding field. STRADA DEL SOGNO - She should have a strong showing versus this softer field. She has been racing admirably lately while recording very solid Equibase Speed Figures.

                  Parx Racing - Race #4 - Post: 2:01pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $60,000 Class Rating: 63

                  Rating:

                  #8 CRUISE MISSILE (ML=10/1)
                  #1 NIT WITNESS (ML=7/2)
                  #10 TIGGY THUNDER (ML=10/1)

CRUISE MISSILE - Using this jockey/trainer combination is a good choice. With a big class drop in class figure points from her July 4th race at Ellis Park. Based on that information, I will give this horse the edge. NIT WITNESS - This pony coming off a sharp race in the last thirty days is a contender in my book. After the event aboard this equine on Aug 6th, the rider is going to be in touch with the filly much better. Just look at her most recent speed figure, 64. That one fits in this bunch. Last out on Aug 6th was a good tune-up for today. Got decent betting action in that one, but finished second. Expect better in today's race. Lasix can take some getting used to, especially for a filly. They usually hit stride the second time using it, like we have with this horse. TIGGY THUNDER - Ran last time around the track against a much better field at Parx Racing. The move to a lower level should suit her well.

Vulnerable Contenders: #13 TRICK OF THE LIGHT (ML=9/2), #5 WEST SIDE DIVA (ML=6/1), #9 INSTANT VISION (ML=6/1),

TRICK OF THE LIGHT - Didn't end up on the board on August 1st after the long vacation. Be doubtful of this horse today. WEST SIDE DIVA - This filly finished out of the money on Oct 7th and wasn't even close in the last race either. INSTANT VISION - On a downward sequence. Speed ratings keep declining. When looking at today's Equibase class figure, she will have to notch a much better speed fig than in the last race to compete in this dirt sprint.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #8 CRUISE MISSILE to win if we can get at least 7/2 odds

                    Ellis Park - Race #1 - Post: 11:50am - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $100,000 Class Rating: 80

                    Rating:

                    #2 KELLY'S WAY BACK (ML=9/2)

KELLY'S WAY BACK - You may want to discount that last affair at Churchill Downs on an off track where she finished off the board. Should do well right here in this race under normal track conditions. Here is an appropriate handicapping angle that I've used many times before. Play a filly (like this one) getting Lasix for the second time.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #5 SENSING FLATTER (ML=8/5), #6 BEING MYSELF (ML=7/2), #3 DASHIN' DIVA (ML=5/1),

SENSING FLATTER - This favorite probably needs at least one race to get back into shape. Skip her today. BEING MYSELF - Ran long ago on September 20th. We should see a race or two. DASHIN' DIVA - Hard to wager on at 5/1 odds after the last two outings.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 KELLY'S WAY BACK to win if you can get odds of 1/1 or more
                    EXACTA WAGERS: 2 with 3
