Al Cimaglia:Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    August 25, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card to begin the week. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

1-Tip Top Cat (3-1)-Shipped in from Oak Grove and put in 3 races against better and cashed small checks. Takes a big drop from the Invites and finally draws inside. Using, because it would be no shock if the Burke trainee wakes up tonight.
2-Admiral Hill (9/5)-The Admiral is only 1-9 this year and had mixed results in the last 3 races since returning to town. The small price is tough to swallow but Jason Bartlett should have the opportunity to go gate to wire once the wings fold.
7-Soho Dow Jones A (6-1)-The Dilloian trainee steps up after wiring the $15K claimers. Loses Bartlett, and that will help the price as Colin Kelly is a suitable replacement. This will be a test but could post a win with an aggressive start. Has the gate speed to get on the point or to get a pocket ride, and could be up to the challenge of beating better.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Aye Aye Captain N (5/2)-Interesting race and the team Ricky Bucci entry should be in play from the start. Doesn’t need to be on the engine to take a picture and Brent Holland could be stalking close by the leader at the top of the lane.
3-Steet Hawk N (3-1)The Scott Blackler pupil was close versus this kind 2 back and is in fine form. Last week, went a strong gate to wire performance versus NW20KL5. Steps back up, Colin Kelly sticks and should offer a fair price.
4-Hemsworth (7/2)-Jared Bako veteran steps up after a sharp win rolling the back half in 55.1 Has been very good in 2 of the last 3 races and the only exception was when drawing the 8-hole. Beat better than this in the spring and best to respect here despite moving up in class.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Dunkin' (4-1)- Last year’s version of Dunkin' may have been worthy of singling here. But is only 4 for 21 this year. Has had excuses and does face tough company so deserves respect. If dialed on high George Brennan could slam the pedal down and not look back.
3-Soho Firestone A (4-1)-Beaten favorite might be overlooked. Landed a pocket ride in last but could not catch Jamaica Rock who was a well-rated winner. Could land in the 2-hole again but can also win coming off cover and the fractions could be hot.
4-Jamaican Rock A (2-1)-Scott Blackler Aussie bred had had a winning Yonkers debut last week. Got on the point and controlled the mile going to the half in 57 seconds for the 4th straight win. Maybe some will hold the slow fractions against it. But, not going to let the 4-year-old beat me after drawing a choice post.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

8-Catalpa Rescue A (2-1)-Here is another Blackler Aussie bred. The 6-year-old made his debut with a sharp win coming off cover. Stopped the clock in 151.4 with a 54.2 back-half. Bartlett should have in a position to double up and it looked like there was more left in the tank after drawing off by 3.5 lengths.

    $1 Pick 5

    1,2,7/1,3,4/1,3,4/8
    Total Bet=$54

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#3 Jimmy the Hat Could see him being a bit better fit with this crew, and he has some positional pace that should leave him in a really good spot into the turn. One of the ones.
#4 Top Recruit Tactical speed brings reliable form with him to this one, and he's another who should be in line for a pretty good trip tracking the early run.
#7 Mor Spring Spirit Pace has been making short work of groups like this in recent starts, and he looks dangerous again with a good outside draw to attack from the start. The one to beat.
Race Summary Jimmy the Hat may be an OK price in here with some room to bounce back, and he'll need to -- he has a long way to turn on Mor Spring Spirit from their last meeting.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#6 Claramente Tactical type should be in a good spot throughout, and I wonder if her best stuff might be enough to keep the likely chalk honest late. Some appeal at a second- or third-choice price?
#4 A Case of You Could be an easy winner in here with her better stuff, and she brings a perfect local record to this one with a few sharp route scores under her belt here. The one to beat.
#7 Omikami Have to dig back a bit to find the competitive runs, but she has a little bit of finishing enthusiasm that could help her plug along late for a piece of this at a price.
Race Summary Claramente may be the right one to spring the mildest of upsets on A Case of You -- she's still doing some proving on class, but she seems like an OK fit today.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#9 Fillyrules She stepped back last time out when rising off the good two-back run, and I'm hoping the move back to the bottom will help her get back to something like that late July run. Capable with her best.
#8 Courageous Ari Cutback player has some decent sprint lines on her page, but it also wouldn't be a shock to see her settle for another underneath share as she has done in the past.
#6 Nun Gimel Hay Po She nearly held last time out, and she has some versatility in her running style that gives her rider a couple of options out of the gate here. Should find a good forward spot with these.
Race Summary Fillyrules has inconsistent form, but her only sprint try at this level produced the best effort of her career here a handful of weeks back. Dangerous bounce-back potential.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #3
#3 BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES (4-1) Winless long time but in the right spot for 27-percent new acquisition barn.
#1 EGO MAN (4-5) Finished distant second to new stablemate Nuedorf (8-32, $152k) for twice this price.
#4 CHIP’S FRIEND (6-1) Dueled in pair of longer races before fading, has history of troubled starts.
Race Summary The last time BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES ran in the $5,000/nw 6 months condition, he finished between a pair of six-figure earners, namely repeat winner Cox Canyon (6-24, $103k) and next-out winner Ronic (5-29, $102k). His speed figures have remained steady since then, so bet to win and place and play 3-1 and 3-4 exactas.
        Parx - Race #5
#6 ENFORCER (8-5) Memory can serve him well with 41/6-7-8 Parx record intact.
#1 FULL IRISH (5-2) Blew commanding lead as the 2-to-5 favorite three starts back in the same spot.
#2 COBBLE ROAD (4-1) Sheds 9 pounds, could prove best of the rest.
Race Summary ENFORCER exits a fast, double ‘key’ sprint at Penn National, now takes a magnified class drop in his second start off the Lake claim. He has plenty of Parx back-class to summon and lures Paco to ride. Bet to win and place and play a 6/1, 2/ALL trifecta.
        Parx - Race #6
#6 COOL MILLION (9-2) Hit board in half of starts, alert start the key, encouraged by recent work.
#7 BEYOND EXPECTATIONS (5-2) Good first gear, held second with Lasix in seasonal debut, one to beat.
#1 CAPTAIN FANCY (7-2) Average 66 Beyer in four starts on fast track this year translates well.
Race Summary COOL MILLION has two seconds and a third in six well-bet starts at Parx. He shows a 1-minute bullet workout Friday, a good sign for a runner plagued by a slow-starting habit. Bet to win and place and play a 1-6-7 exacta box.

I like KARENSNOTIMPRESSED here. With a reliable 59 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Make a note that this entrant runs with second time Lasix today. Will almost certainly go to the front end and might never look back. SUNNY WISHES - There is a formidable chance that this entry's late pace will improve on Lasix. This filly looks strong in this contest since Heads has a very solid win percentage with horses going this distance. WHAT A FORCE - This filly could improve on Lasix. Has solid early pace and will most likely fare admirably versus this group.

                Parx Racing - Race #5 - Post: 2:28pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 85

                Rating:

                #2 COBBLE ROAD (ML=4/1)

COBBLE ROAD - A wise man taught me to bet on the lone speed horse. Take a look at this one. This gelding gets a weight break of -9 pounds from last race. Should make the difference right here.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #6 ENFORCER (ML=8/5), #1 FULL IRISH (ML=5/2), #3 REMARKABLE MO (ML=9/2),

ENFORCER - This chalk horse ran on July 30th and hasn't had a blow out since. Difficult to bet on this racer this time around. Make him show you something in a sprint event before you bet on him in a race of 6 furlongs. REMARKABLE MO - No good fortune for this less than sharp equine in a short distance contest over the last 60 days tells me that this gelding is in a difficult spot Awfully tough to play this pony when he hasn't been showing any gumption of late. Disappointing speed rating last out at Delaware Park at 6 furlongs. Don't feel this steed will improve too much in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #2 COBBLE ROAD to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though

                  Mountaineer Park - Race #2 - Post: 7:25pm - Optional Claiming - 7.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 75

                  Rating:

                  #3 IMPRESSIONISM (ML=8/1)
                  #7 XTENDED STREAK (ML=7/2)

IMPRESSIONISM - This mare should find these state breds easier than what she faced in her last race on July 25th. Trainer, Runco, has been deliberate with this mare off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. This is this mare's first try on the turf. Ran well finishing second on Jan 13th. The track was slow that day, so I think this horse will take to the turf. Is ranked uppermost in EPS (earnings per start). A dominant outing in this field will boost the lifetime earnings. The animal with the top average Equibase class figure in turf events is usually a solid play. This thoroughbred fits the bill. XTENDED STREAK - The ROI when Stokes and Poole hook up is fantastic. Faces state bred foes today after finishing fifth versus 'open' company on August 6th. Have to like the way Poole has raced this mare back into shape off the layoff. Equine is well spotted in this sprint and I think she'll run well today.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #2 PORTIA'S HOPE (ML=5/2), #8 MY LUCKY DEIA (ML=4/1), #4 OUT ONA LIMB (ML=5/1),

PORTIA'S HOPE - This runner will probably be way back as this group crosses the finish line. MY LUCKY DEIA - This entrant likes to be on the board, but doesn't usually finish on top. Don't play in the top spot. On a downward series. Speed figs keep dropping. The fig last race out doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this racer as a likely underlay. OUT ONA LIMB - Hasn't been close at all lately.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #3 IMPRESSIONISM to win. Have to have odds of at least 5/2 or better though

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 5 STORMIN DAVE 12/1
                    # 8 VICTORY TOWN 9/2
                    # 2 BOSTON BAY 8/1
STORMIN DAVE is the strongest bet in this outing especially at a long price. Displays formidable speed figures on average overall when matched with the rest of this field. Will almost certainly go to the lead and might never look back. This racer could stun this lot at a solid price. VICTORY TOWN - Has been running solidly lately and will most likely be on or close to the front end early on. Is worth looking at and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figures (79 average) at today's distance and surface lately. BOSTON BAY - Has to be carefully examined - I like the figures from the last contest. With one of the most favorable riders in terms of dividends at the window, don't count this gelding out.
