Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    August 29, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway begins the weekend with a 10-race card. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Easy To Please (3-1)-Comes off 2 sharp efforts at Stga, the last ending in a win. Ships back and lands at a level where he hasn't shown much. But has started from post 7 in 2 of 3 races against this company and now draws inside which could make a winning difference. Did beat this kind going gate to wire leaving from post 4 on 6-27 and will look for Jordan Stratton to work the same plan here.
8-Ambushed (6-1)-Put in a big try in last with a 54.2 back half but was pace compromised and finished 3rd. My take is Brent Holland leaves hard and lands on the point or in the pocket behind the one above. Could pop at a nice price if is in good shape around the first turn.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Take Your Pick (8-1)-Lightly raced mare comes off a win at PcD and the Cullipher trainee could surprise if dialed high. Does like to win (20-10-2-1) but has made only 60 lifetime starts. A pocket ride is a distinct possibility and a trip out win wouldn't be a shock.
6-Silk Cloud A (4-1)-Stratton had his foot through the floorboard leaving from post 6 on 8-22. Got the lead but the 26.3 opening quarter probably cost the win and ended up losing by a nose. Recent form has been sharp and if that doesn't change, the trip will probably be kinder this week. Could land on the point again off the gate, but doesn't need to lead every step of the way to take a picture.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

5-Airmans Jackpot (2-1)-This will be the 2nd start in the Pat Lachance barn after a claim and appears to have landed at a comfortable level to reward its connections. Put in an even effort against better and now drops to the softest spot in some time. Should relish the company and could be put into play when the wings fold.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

2-Bout Damn Time A (4-1)-Was cashing small checks versus $30K claimers and drops to a level for a shot at its 2nd picture this year. Showed some desire in last trying to go gate wire after starting from post 1. But faded badly down the lane as that type of trip isn't in its best interest. Was stuck with the 7 and the 8-hole 2 and 3 back. Basically, hasn't had an inside post draw since 6-3 and gets an opportunity against a suspect bunch.
3-Talent To Spare A (7/2)-Bumps up but still fits from the inside against a soft group. Might be able to time the gate and beat the rail horse to the top of the opening turn. This race could set up nicely if the mare gets on the point or lands in the 2-hole. Best to respect chances with its tactical speed. Has had an outside post in 3 of the last 4 races and is usually in the mix when draws inside.

    $3 Late Pick 4

    2,8/1,6/5/2,3
    Total Bet=$24

Saratoga Late Pick 3 | Friday, August 29

      August 29, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      SARATOGA PICK 3
      Friday, August 29, 2025

Dynamic Pricing, a three-time graded stakes winner on three different turf courses, could take a step closer to millionaire status in the $150,000 Perfect Sting at Saratoga this Friday, Aug. 29. The one-mile stakes race on the inner turf course is part of a late Pick 3 wager that features three double-digit sized fields.

SAR 10th (5:38 p.m. EST) -- MARGAUX TREASURE followed the winning favorite with a 4-wide bid into the stretch at 7F but flattened out after two months away. She is the first Tagg-trained runner in 2 years to jump from the claiming ranks into allowance company, but she will get plenty of pace to rally into at a good price. CAPITAL GAL will be an underlay with Prat getting the call. She recovered from a slow start and ‘took command’ at the 3/8 pole en route to a runner-up finish at today’s distance. But the knock is that her two wins since 2024 were aided by a snails-like pace at Turfway Park and a five-horse field at Finger Lakes. She sneaks onto the Pick 3 ticket. BOXED WINE enters a high-percentage claim barn for her first start on the main track since her debut. But her dam was 13/3-3-5 on dirt and with a minor stakes victory and a Grade 3 placing.

SAR 11th race (6:12 p.m. EST) -- The photo-finish camera doesn’t lie: DYNAMIC PRICING thrives on winning the close ones. She rallied to win three graded stakes by less than 2 lengths combined, the latest on a yielding Saratoga course at one mile, a scene that could return in the $150,000 Perfect Sting with a 55-percent chance of rain in the advanced forecast. Her class should prevail for leading trainer Chad Brown. PROCTOR STREET could be the main danger off a visually-impressive allowance win in her second start this year. She surged 5-wide in mid-stretch en route to a career-best 90 Beyer speed figure. LES REYES, the only horse to beat DYNAMIC PRICING in a non-graded stakes, hails from a hot barn and looked good with a :47 bullet workout and a handy 4F prep on the Saratoga turf training track to get ready for her second start this year.

SAR 12th race (6:47 p.m. EST) -- Go deep in this $100,000 maiden claimer on the turf. KEY ACTRESS chased the 12-1 upset winner around the Saratoga lawn to finish second, 3 lengths ahead of MAGNUM’S MICROBRST, who was rank and ‘under restraint early.’ The fifth and sixth place finishers in that July 3 turf route came back with MSW victories, one of them against Magnum’s Microbrst.
SHARON HORIZONS hit the gate and ran third as a debut favorite, but Prat rides uncoupled stablemate CHANNEL CHECK, who lacked stretch kick in a turf race that timed 1-3/5 seconds faster than an inner-turf allowance in the next race. VICTORIOUSLY turned heads in the morning at Presque Isle Downs and her dam was a Maiden Special Weight and allowance winner going long. VIA VENETO made up nearly 7 lengths in the final half-mile of her debut in which the favorites ran 1-2-3-4.

      Suggested 50-Cent Pick 3
      SAR 10th Race: 2, 4, 6
      SAR 11th Race: 5, 6, 7
      SAR 12th Race: 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 10
      Cost: $27

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Del Mar - Race #2
#4 Seattle Surf He has had a lot of chances already, but his pace feels dangerous enough in a spot like this while coming off a race that might do the trick against a bunch of horses who seem to be trying to find any way to wake up right now.
#5 Unique Power Nothing to write home about on his page, but his only dirt sprint was the best effort of his three lifetime tries, and there are a couple of pretty huge names in his company lines. I guess.
#7 Grinnell He's another with some huge names in the company lines and looks like a good fit with this crew. Wouldn't be any surprise to see him spy and land this.
Race Summary Seattle Surf turned in a good one last time out that might handle this crew -- will hope he runs back to it. But also, check out how oddly deep the company lines are for some of these horses now in a $32,000 maiden claimer. Big stakes names like Journalism, Citizen Bull, and Freedom's Not Free all make appearances.
        Del Mar - Race #5
#4 Unrivaled Time Get a look at him on the tote and track ahead of this one, but he feels like a solid lean for me on paper. The barn is capable with this kind, and the top side of his pedigree is win early on any footing. Guessing he's ready.
#9 No Joke Antares He'll stretch out on turf for the first time today, but he has been kind of one-paced through two dirt sprints so far. Could easily see there being enough upside to take this one.
#3 Flashy Fritz I never thought he was going to be a star, but I definitely expected a bit better from him than what we've seen so far. Maybe the distance and surface switch shakes him up?
Race Summary Unrivaled Time goes first out in a race that doesn't feel like it has any obvious standouts on paper, and he's got a win-early pedigree that suggests he'll like this trip.
        Del Mar - Race #7
#1 Lovin' On the Run She didn't have the cleanest run of things when missing by just a length at 33/1 in stakes company last time out, and I like how reliable her form has become over the last few months. Can handle these.
#8 Barbara T Dropper couldn't hang in Grade II company last time out, but she's quick and should be in the picture from the start. Threat if she likes the new footing.
#9 Miss Roberts She and #5 The Wild Grazer have similar profiles where their runs outside of stakes company have all been pretty solid, and she stacks up OK with this bunch right back off the score last out.
Race Summary Lovin' On the Run gets a little class relief while still landing in a pretty deep spot -- but that might help keep the price just playable enough after a solid try in stakes company last time out.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Saratoga - Race #2
#2 STEER CLEAR (9-5) Steer toward making a bet on her if she opts for this spot over G-1 Spinaway.
#5 IMMACULATE MOON (3-1) Took money, finished a half-length behind ‘Steer’ and adds blinkers.
#6 DIVINE PASSION (15-1) Prepped at Belmont for McPeek; dam was 4-7 and multiple G-2 placed.
Race Summary STEER CLEAR broke outward at the start, dueled hard on the turn, inched away at the 1/8th pole and finished second in a field of all first-time starters. She is entered in a Grade 1 stakes Saturday but should graduate if she runs in this spot. Bet to win and place and play 2-5 and 2-6 exactas.
          Saratoga - Race #4
#3 THESE APPLES (10-1) All-or-nothing type for good claim barn at a good price.
#4 KILLY START (5-2) Ran 1-2-3 for $20k, drops after voided claim, Irad stays on board.
#5 IT TAKES HEART (3-1) Three wire-to-wire romps in seven starts on a fast track this year.
Race Summary THESE APPLES, claimed for twice this amount when last seen in May, is worth a longshot stab nonetheless. She won back-to-back races on Turfway Park’s synthetic track to start the year, tested stakes company to no avail, then failed to factor in a pair of higher-tagged claimers at Churchill Downs that produced five next-out winners with an average 78 Beyer. Bet to win and place.
          Saratoga - Race #6
#9 CATCHPHRASE (6-1) Could take some catching on return to claiming ranks at shorter distance.
#1 FLORIDA FLOWER (4-1) Cuts back to long sprint for new connections after pair of in-money routes.
#2 ALWAYS PRACTICAL (5-2) Won once at 5-1 odds or less in 8 of last 9 starts, takes the plunge.
Race Summary CATCHPHRASE was one of six front-end winners when she pulled away by 6 lengths in a $25,000 long sprint. She is 0-for-4 in allowance races since then, but her speed must be respected in this spot. Bet to win and place and play 9-1 and 9-2 exactas.

I think STAYED IN FOR HALF is a quite good choice. Has competitive Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet in this competition. Could best this field based on the speed figure - 89 - of his last affair. Has a sharp shot in here if you like back class. CINCO RICHIE - His 81 average has this gelding with among the most competitive Equibase Speed Figures here. FIT TO FLY - Nieves and Claire are a potent pair for profits. Earned a sound speed figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest.

                  Del Mar - Race #4 - Post: 4:32pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $31,000 Class Rating: 93

                  Rating:

                  #7 BIGREDSANDRIBEYES (ML=4/1)
                  #9 HARD TO FIGURE (ML=8/5)

BIGREDSANDRIBEYES - Atop this horse on Jun 22nd and Kimura is right back in the irons this time around. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed rating, 103, is tops in this group. Had a powerful closing move last time around the track, running the last quarter in less than 25 seconds. A similar race today, and it's straight to the winner's circle. HARD TO FIGURE - This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Hernandez gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. Hernandez and Bob Baffert have had fabulous success together over the last twelve months. Earnings per race is something that I feel can be an important factor. This horse is ranked the highest in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 SPUN NOT STIRRED (ML=5/1), #8 MIGHTY KAI (ML=6/1), #1 MALIBU ROCKS (ML=8/1),

SPUN NOT STIRRED - He showed not much at all in the last event. MIGHTY KAI - This gelding is always close, but just doesn't finish on top. Tough to play him on the win end. Don't think this less than sharp equine will make a winning move in today's race. That last speed figure was pedestrian when compared with today's class figure. MALIBU ROCKS - If you keep betting these kind of 'hanger' types, you're going to be disappointed frequently.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #7 BIGREDSANDRIBEYES to win if we can get at least 3/1 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [7,9]
                  TRIFECTA WAGERS: Skip
                  SUPERFECTA WAGERS: Pass

                    Century Mile - Race #9 - Post: 10:15pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,500 Class Rating: 79

                    Rating:

                    #10 COTTONWOOD (ML=15/1)

COTTONWOOD - EPS (earnings per start) is something that I think can be a very important handicapping aspect. This thoroughbred is ranked numero uno in this bunch. My expertise says this is the sole presser in the race. Gelding will add blinkers to the equipment package today. That often leads to an improved performance.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #8 RAILWAY (ML=5/2), #2 MAD LUTHER (ML=3/1), #7 LEGAL ASSASSIN (ML=7/2),

RAILWAY - I don't normally play a morning-line favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last few weeks. MAD LUTHER - Hard to take this pony at the price after the finish (fourth) in the last race. LEGAL ASSASSIN - This gelding most likely won't be very close at the finish.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #10 COTTONWOOD is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better

                    SUPER HIGH 5 WAGERS: 10 with [3,4] with [3,4,5,9] with [3,4,5,7,9] with [3,4,5,7,9] Total Cost: $36

                      Race 1 - Maiden - 300y on the Dirt. Purse: $19432 Class Rating: 71

QUARTER HORSE 300Y, FOR REGISTERED STATE BRED MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 125 LBS.; OLDER, 127 LBS.
                      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                      # 4 MITEY HIGH 6/1
                      # 2 PYC FORCE 2/1
                      # 1 JESS PRAISING HIM 5/2
MITEY HIGH supports the bet in here. Could best this field based on the speed rating - 74 - of his last contest. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the most competitive class figures of this group of animals. Can't overlook the connections here, a 16 winning percentage, one of the most favorable at getting into the winner's circle. PYC FORCE - With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Esqueda ought to have this gelding in excellent position to win the contest. He looks very strong in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. JESS PRAISING HIM - Could best this group based on the speed figure - 68 - of his last outing. This pony is at the top in this field in earnings per start at the distance/surface.
