Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    September 8, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

2-Dontlikeitleave (9/5)-The last time Jason Bartlett steered he beat similar back in July. The Nick DeVita entry cashed small checks recently versus $60k claimers and now drops to a much better level for success.
4-Smooth Lou (5-1)-This is the 3rd start for the Corey Stratton barn and in the first 2 races lost each both by a noise. My take is there will be a lively pace in this race and Jordan Stratton has good gate speed to use. Should be stalking close to the leader turning for the wire.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Lucapelo A (3-1)-Closed in .55 last time and cashed a 4th place check losing by 3/4 of a length. This time there should be a livelier pace. Steps up but has beaten better than this and that should help the price. This is another who can stalk and be the best down the lane.
4-Hickfromfrenchlick (8-1)-Gets some class relief, plus post relief and could be overlooked. This is a level where a win could happen and Mark MacDonald should have the pedal down from the word go.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

2-Always A Thrill (3-1)-Was consistently 1-2 or 3 at this condition and this will be the first race back after a sick scratch on 7-21. Comes off a crisp qualifier on 8-27 at PcD winning on the engine. Will look for the Devita trainee to fire hot off the bench in a competitive event.
6-Heza Charttopper A (6-1)-Comes off a sharp win leaving from post 4 and was used hard early. Has raced well with 2 wins at this level in the last 4 starts and the only clunker was when it drew the 6 hole. But had no shot when they went to the half in .57 and will likely be overlooked tonight. Is worth a swing at the program price, and they aren’t going to the half in .57 this time.
7-Endofstory (7/2)-Bartlett doesn’t always pick the winning horse when he has options. But he is on the money often and this was his choice over others. Does have the gate speed to get a good early seat. Bartlett won with the Dilloian trainee back at the end of May and when they team up the win rate is 46%.

    Race 9 (9:25 pm EDT)

4-Dancin Sancho (8-1)-The 1-21 record this year is cause for pause but raced well in its YR debut from the 8-hole. Went the back half in 54.4 to cash a 3rd place check and is worth a swing at anything close to the morning line price.
6-Funatthebeach N (10-1)-Will close it out with another price shot. Most likely Mark MacDonald will be out and rolling on the drop in class. Could make some noise if gets the top off the car. Willing to fade the rail horse at 6/5 and look for some value from this veteran who comes back in sequence.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,4/2,4/2,6,7/4,6
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#4 Silent Raindrops Hoping this fresh face will offer a mildly playable price in a spot with a couple capable players -- check her out on the tote and track ahead of this, but the barn has been solid in local spots like this. Could be ready.
#5 Moms Tribute The local form has been pretty honest, but she has also made a habit of losing ground in the stretch call of most of her races. Wouldn't be a shock from what should be a good spot throughout.
#3 Boogie Woogie She's dangerous speed here, but there are a couple inside of her with a bit of pace that could keep things honest. In the mix.
Race Summary Silent Raindrops is worth a look first time out in a race with a couple of decent runners for this level, but they both look potentially vulnerable late.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #5
#2 Caparbia Taking a bit of a reach today with this one, because I'm not really sure who else you're supposed to be afraid of in here. She was sent long at first asking and made a mild move before going flat and finishing last of five at 30/1. Could see her sustaining that type of effort better today.
#5 Intimate She tracked the pace and stayed on OK in the debut going short, but she's bred to handle the added ground today and could find herself in a perfect spot to land the first jump.
#1 Lake Vibes She only did a little bit of chasing before giving way to be a distant third in the debut try, but she's another with some room to come forward around two turns, especially with that tune-up out of the way.
Race Summary Caparbia didn't show much in the debut except for a modest midrace run, but none of the bigger names are here for this type of local spot, and there isn't a ton of serious form on paper. All of that could leave this one for the taking at a price if she can hold her rally better today.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#3 Lets Get It On Slight edge here in a competitive race, as he didn't have the easiest go of things last time out and might have some upside while going long for the first time. Should be in touch the whole way.
#4 Malibu Warrior Proven route form could be useful here, but he's a question mark over the local footing and probably takes some cash. I'm not too skeptical, just not entirely sold.
#2 King Mendelssohn He ran a good one off the claim last time out and fits well here while getting back around two turns. Enough to like.
Race Summary Lets Get It On can be tough in here while getting around two turns for the first time. The pedigree says yes, and he's not really that exposed with just the two starts under his belt.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#3 HI HEELED WARRIOR (5-1) Faltered in muddy stretch, remains proven at distance, holds tactical edge.
#1 AMY MULE (7-2) Has some late kick, but 0-12 record this year and lack of quality pace in race a concern.
#2 FROSTED DIAMOND (4-1) Stretch-out sprinter held second the only time she made lead at this distance.
Race Summary HI HEELED WARRIOR was a bit unsettled in the gate, caught 4-wide into the first turn and in tight between rivals until she settled down on the backstretch. She had dead aim on the 11-1 winner but flattened out in the muddy going in the stretch. She won 3 of her previous 5 starts at this distance with an average 54 Beyer and can get the jump on the main contenders from just off the pace. Bet to win and place.
        Parx - Race #2
#5 WICKED MELODY (3-1) Big move in first start for this barn two back, third in faster follow-up.
#4 CHACHACHING (7-2) Seeks third winning rally in a row for 25-percent barn with ‘repeaters.’
#2 RAMIEL (9-2) Can use her speed wisely on cutback from longer route races, won with Sanchez.
Race Summary WICKED MELODY, third in a fast race at this level, can get back on the winning track with a duplicate of her winning rally two back at Monmouth Park. She was unhurried until she inhaled the leaders on the turn and withstood an inquiry after she lugged in on the co-favorite in deep stretch. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-4 exactas.
        Parx - Race #3
#1 BAILOUT BILLY (7-2) Gets needed break from MSW ranks, will take some catching as always.
#2 TIPTOP (3-1) Ran in MSW company at Saratoga as 2yo, gets Lasix for new barn off 1:01-4/5 workout.
#7 DEVILS ARROW (5-1) Off more than a year for high-percentage claim barn, morning moves encouraging.
Race Summary BAILOUT BILLY blew clear leads at this distance in four consecutive starts before she stumbled at the break last out. She could get away from this field upon exiting MSW company for a barn in the midst of a 6-for-17 streak with similar layoff types. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-7 exacta box.

              # 5 BOZAANO 3/1
              # 7 SAVE MY TOWN 9/5
My pick for this event is TAYLOR'S MOONSHINE especially at a long price. Has quite good early pace and will most likely fare quite well versus this group. This handler has the top ROI in this field with entries racing at this distance and surface. BOZAANO - Has formidable early lick and will almost certainly fare admirably versus this field. With a solid 51 average Equibase Speed Fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. SAVE MY TOWN - Has to be carefully examined here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone. The average class rating of 60 makes this entrant difficult to beat.

                Parx Racing - Race #3 - Post: 1:34pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $32,000 Class Rating: 70

                Rating:

                #1 BAILOUT BILLY (ML=7/2)

BAILOUT BILLY - A wise man taught me to invest in the lone speed horse. Take a look at this animal.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #2 TIPTOP (ML=3/1), #3 WEEKEND HONOR (ML=4/1), #7 DEVILS ARROW (ML=5/1),

TIPTOP - No good fortune for this horse in a sprint race over the last two months tells me that this filly is in a thorny situation This filly hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last two races around the track. The speed fig last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a possibly overvalued equine. WEEKEND HONOR - Based on the pace scenario in this contest, this animal doesn't fit in here. With a single front-runner and this animal having to race from behind, she sure has a tough assignment. Will not be easy for this horse to beat this group off of that last speed fig. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put her on the vulnerable contenders list. DEVILS ARROW - Didn't land in the money on May 16th at Belmont at the Big A. Followed it up with another lackluster performance.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #1 BAILOUT BILLY to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

BUTCH'S BEST looks to be a quite good contender. Looks very good to be up near the lead at the first call. Has been moving well in races of this distance, going 1 - 3 under similar conditions. CLEAR THE AIR - Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this equine look strong in this contest. Walden has a solid 30 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. UNWORKABLE - Risk takers should take a good look at this one as this colt has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this group. Could best this group of horses based on the speed figure - 93 - of his last contest.

                    Prairie Meadows - Race #9 - Post: 5:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 51

                    Rating:

#8 THE WIFE FOUND OUT (ML=4/1)

THE WIFE FOUND OUT - McShane drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more from the pp lines to believe this one will be tough to beat at this level.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 ACTIN' UP (ML=5/2), #5 SIMPLIFIED (ML=7/2), #3 ON OUR WAY (ML=5/1),

ACTIN' UP - No good results for this runner in a short distance event over the last 60 days tells me that this mare is in a formidable circumstance This favorite hasn't been to the track in awhile. No workouts since last race. SIMPLIFIED - Garnered a mediocre speed rating last time out in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race on August 18th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that fig. ON OUR WAY - I'd like to see better recent outings with morning line odds of 5/1. Recent dropping speed figures of 45/30/13 give an indication that this horse may be going off form.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #8 THE WIFE FOUND OUT to win if you can get at least 1/1 odds
