Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    September 15, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

2-Soho Santorini A (10-1)-Aussie bred put in an even effort in what appeared to be a needed start. Tonight, gets some class relief, post relief, and this will be the 2nd time for Lasix. Went the back half in .55 and should be forwardly placed throughout. The price is right to take a swing in a race without a standout.
5-Hazelville (3-1)-Took a picture on 9-1 then bumped up to this level but was stuck with post 7 after winning the last race from post 8. Brent Holland returns for his 3rd straight steer and could be sitting on a big try.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Twiggs Pub (10-1)-Price shot goes from Post 7 to post 2 and needs a top of the stack trip to win at this level. Austin Siegelman is in a position to work an advantageous trip and pay off at a juicy price.
6-All Alone (7/2)-Raced wide in last, the 1st half went in 57.2, then the 4-year-old paced the 2nd half in a quick 54.1, but could only finish 2nd. This will be the 1st start for trainer Jared Bako who wins at a 30% clip after a claim. Colin Kelly steers, he came a close 2nd two starts back and could offer a fair price.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

2-Sweet Beach Life (5/2)-Went gate to wire in last and now moves in from post 5. Same game plan should be happening tonight and the race most likely will go through the Travis Alexander 4-year-old.
4-Mac’s Delight (8-1)-Had no chance in last, was 10-lengths back at the first call and although rolling the back half in 54.2 couldn’t cash a check. Price shot could land in the pocket and post a trip out win.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Saddle Up (2-1)-Here is a winner of 3 straight and 6 of 7 for 4 different barns. Would love to play completely against the small price and look for more value. But it doesn’t make sense against this field with this post draw.
5-Southwind Petyr (8-1)-Makes the first start for the DiDomenico barn and George Brennan has options from this starting slot. Could leave, land in a good early seat or could stalk and hope for hot fractions. Can beat this group with the right trip and also looks like a gimmick use at a nice price.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,5/2,6/2,4/2,5
    Total Bet=$32

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4
#6 Sister Hustle Firster meets a capable, but unspectacular, group at first asking and won't have to be a star to land this. Check her out on the tote and track ahead of this, but I think she can make some noise today.
#7 Jen D'Oro Tactical type hasn't made a serious play for win honors yet, but she has been in range in the lane a couple times. Think her baseline might do the trick, but I'm not particularly inspired.
#1 Red Lite District She finished up OK in an otherwise even kind of debut run, but she got past a few horses that day and has some reasonable upside into this second career start.
Race Summary Sister Hustle looks interesting enough on debut in a race where those with experience don't stand out a whole lot for me -- several of them are logical but don't excite.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#2 Calvin's Ride He looks like one of the ones in a competitive spot, and he should be in line for another perfect trip while sitting right up on the splits. Lots to like here.
#4 Happyisashappydoes He was flat last out at Colonial, but his local tries this summer have been honest and fit the mold for a winner here. Price probably gets short, but you've got to get past him to land this.
#1 Aleman He doesn't typically offer much late, but he should be in a forward enough spot and save some ground from the rail draw, so I could see him just plugging along the whole way and saving a piece.
Race Summary Calvin's Ride might be mildly playable as the second choice in here, and I think we could be in for a fun race with the top pair having similar tactical profiles and ceilings.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#1 La Artista Finisher ran well to grab a stakes share last time out, and she draws well to save some ground before trying to rally. Hoping her mild two-back run over the local footing will keep some bettors away.
#4 Kitten's War Not a ton of serious depth for the level lined up here, so this riser makes a bit of sense with reliable form heading into this. Let's see how she classes up.
#7 Delayed She couldn't hang on the hike last time out, but the two- and three-back efforts both seem competitive if she can transfer something like that to the local footing. Mild enthusiasm for me, but I wouldn't argue too hard with you.
Race Summary La Artista is probably capable of something better than she showed here in that early August run, but she bounced back with a good Belterra stakes try and may not be overmatched with this crew.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #1
#8 WANNA GO HOME (9-5) Can control pace with alert break and earn diploma in second start.
#5 BIG TIME TROUBLE (4-1) Busy workout slate for 22-percent first-out barn.
#2 MY RAQUEL (2-1) No factor in MSW company at Churchill, starts fresh for Asmussen.
Race Summary WANNA GO HOME broke outwardly from the outside post in her debut, dueled with a winning first-time starter from the Brad Cox barn mid-turn and tired in the stretch. She can make maximum use of her speed in this spot in a shorter sprint. Make a win and place wager on today’s Best Bet.
        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
#1 VIGGIEDAL (4-1) Good efforts on fast and sloppy tracks, can end year-long winless drought.
#5 EVERLOVING (9-2) Improved zip since adding blinkers, cutback in distance a plus.
#7 LATE TO THE GAME (8-1) Won $110k maiden sprint at Oaklawn but was eased in follow-up route.
Race Summary VIGGIEDAL ‘bid late’ while 5-wide but finished fourth in a fast-paced 5-1/2F allowance two back, then chased winning favorite Werk It Wendy (5-12, $191k) – who repeated next out -- and held third. She hasn’t won since a debut win last June but give her the nod to break through today with a win and place bet. Also play 1-5 and 1-7 exactas.
        Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #4
#3 LIL GIN N CLASS (3-1) Can stalk and pounce toward $200k in Horseshoe earnings.
#7 E’S MAGIC (5-2) Ultra-consistent sprinter earned $95k last year, benefits from return try.
#1 HOT MIDDLES (6-1) Returns to sprint, where she capped three-peat with a stakes win to start year.
Race Summary LIL GIN N CLASS, first or second in 13 of 18 starts, should sit an ideal trip from just off the pace if she avoids a third consecutive troubled start. She was stakes-placed while carrying 127 pounds in the race prior. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-7-8 exacta box.

              Thistledown - Race #1 - Post: 12:50pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $29,700 Class Rating: 87

              Rating:

              #5 BIG PRANKSTER (ML=6/1)
              #4 KONTEEKEE (ML=3/1)
              #6 VODKA N GINGERALE (ML=7/2)

BIG PRANKSTER - Took a big class drop last out, and I think he may have needed it. Radosevich enters him at a similar class level today. I'd expect an improved performance. I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough outings since the layoff and should be fit. Lets try to beat the morning-line favorites with this gelding. Just missed last out, but ran a respectable race. KONTEEKEE - Have to give this gelding a good shot. Ran a sharp effort last time out within the last month or so. Gonzalez and Puhl perform well when they team up. It's hard to beat a +32 ROI for a jockey and conditioner. VODKA N GINGERALE - This colt should give a good account of himself in today's affair.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #3 KNICKS GLORY (ML=5/2), #2 EL DANDI (ML=9/2), #7 ADMIRAL NELSON (ML=8/1),

KNICKS GLORY - Hasn't been on the Thistledown oval in the last 3 weeks. Cause for some concern. EL DANDI - He's in all probability going to get baked at the front. ADMIRAL NELSON - This field is a whole lot tougher than the ones he met in the last race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 BIG PRANKSTER is going to be the play if we are getting 4/1 or better

QUARTER HORSE 300Y, FOR REGISTERED STATE BRED MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 125 LBS.; OLDER, 127 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $15,000, IF FOR $12,500, ALLOWED 2 LBS.
                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 1 JESS PRAISING HIM 2/1
                # 3 OUGHT TO BE BELIEVIN 7/2
                # 5 TH LEAVING TOWN 3/1
JESS PRAISING HIM looks formidable to best this field. The speed figure of 58 from his most recent race looks very good in here. A solid 66 avg Equibase class rating may give this gelding a distinct class edge against this group. Should expect this equine to be close at the finishing post versus these racers. OUGHT TO BE BELIEVIN - He has been racing strongly recently while recording strong Equibase speed figs. With Ramirez uptop him, this gelding will most likely be able to break out quickly in this race. TH LEAVING TOWN - The speed figure of 56 from his last affair looks very good in here. Trainers don't bring mounts back this quickly just for exercise.

                  Louisiana Downs - Race #6 - Post: 6:25pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 54

                  Rating:

                  #9 LEE'S WICKED ONE (ML=3/1)
                  #3 REDREBELPRODUCTION (ML=8/1)

LEE'S WICKED ONE - Castillo and Wong perform well when they team up. It's hard to beat a +21 return on investment for a jock and handler. Castillo was aboard this gelding last out and was impressed enough to take the equine right back. Taking a trip down in class; has the capability to make his presence felt. I like this gelding. Has the top EPS (earnings per start) in this contest. I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough efforts since the vacation and should be fit. REDREBELPRODUCTION - I expect this thoroughbred to surprise some people this time.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #2 C F JIMMY RAY (ML=5/2), #10 SEVEN DIGITS (ML=4/1), #4 LT. TENT (ML=6/1),

C F JIMMY RAY - I cannot play this perpetual non-winner. Gets the assignment fulfilled once in a while. SEVEN DIGITS - Finished sixth last time. Would have to perk up to hit the board in today's race. LT. TENT - Improbable that the speed figure he notched on Sep 2nd will be enough in this race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #9 LEE'S WICKED ONE on the nose if you can get odds of 7/5 or more

                    # 4 ACE UP HER SLEEVE 5/1
                    # 1 CAROL SAID NO 2/1
                    # 3 FIVE TO TWO 9/5
ACE UP HER SLEEVE should be supported as the wager in here. Might best this group of horses in this race here, showing very strong figs of late. Has a sharp record at the distance and surface, which makes me give the nod to this mare. Has been running solidly lately and will most likely be on the front end early on. CAROL SAID NO - Should be considered here on the basis of the figs in the speed realm alone. She has a good opportunity in this competition as conditioner, Dalessandro, has strong win rate with horses going this distance. FIVE TO TWO - With a nice Equibase class figure average of 79, has one of the most competitive class advantages in this group. Could provide positive gains based on decent recent speed figures with an average of 65.
