Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    September 22, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 has a $10,000 guaranteed pool and rolls in Race 5.The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM ET)

1-Just Enuff Stuff (2-1)-You could call this field a group of $30K claimers trying to win at the $40K claiming level. But this is the first time in for Per Engblom, recent form has been good, and Jason Bartlett could control the race and that might be the winning difference.
5-Speaker of Peace (7/2)-This 5-year-old was claimed by Jared Bako in its last start on 9-8. Not loving the fact, it hasn’t raced since then. But this is a stalker that fits with this bunch, and the race could set up for Brent Holland to roll by down the lane.
6-Cut N Run N (9/2)-Doug Dilloian is trying to place the veteran in with a field he can beat. Has been off since 2-10, then tried the $60k claimers and came with a dull performance. Last week, raced much better versus the $30k claimers but was beaten by a neck. Using because George Brennan takes over and will look for the pedal to be down. Should offer a square price and could be ready to win in the 3rd start off the bench in a field without a standout.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Rock The Belles (7/2)-Tried to wire the last field, faded down the lane and now gets some needed class relief. The driver change to Colin Kelly could make a difference. He has options with this post draw, and might go off at higher odds than the morning line.
4-Soho Santorini A (2-1)-This is the 3rd start stateside for the Aussie bred and was handled conservatively in its debut. Then missed a race and was better in the last start to come 3rd. Could have been a bit short even with an efficient trip. Now there are multiple changes, drops, comes back in sequence, plus Jason Bartlett takes the lines. Looking for the wrapper to come all the way off tonight. Bartlett and the Dilloian barn click at a 48% win rate.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

2-Admiral Hill (6-1)-This is a scattered group of Open Pacers and will use the Admiral with an inside post draw. Loses Bartlett but Colin Kelly can work a top of the stack trip and stay close to the leader. Should offer a nice price, has won 3 of 12 at Yonkers and with the right trip could extend that total.
3-Catalpa Rescue A (5/2)-Winner of 3 in a row jumps up a few levels. Bartlett is in spot to get the lead if not off the gate, early in the mile. Not going to play against because we probably haven't seen the Scott Blackler trainee’s best race yet.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Wattsup Sunshine A (5/2)-Has been facing considerably tougher and now drops to the level of the last win that was on 7-28. Brent Holland takes the lines, and he can rate a horse on a 1/2-mile track as good as any of the Yonkers regulars. Holland posts 25% winners when steering for trainer Shaun Vallee, and this looks like a gate to wire opportunity at a short price.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,5,6/2,4/2,3/1
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #5
#6 Smoked Can't imagine we're getting the 8/1 ML price, but I'm in either way at something much shorter than that. She's getting a tougher test here, but she's out of about as serious and reliable a synthetic racing family as you'll find in the country on the mom's side. Might love it here.
#4 Maidstone Nothing wrong with the sharp debut score at Penn, but I worry that the margin she ran up that day is going to influence her price more than it should in a spot where she seems like one of the ones.
#5 Dakota Springs She's another player in here with a couple of sharp recent efforts to her name, but she's at least something of a question mark locally, and the price probably won't be much.
Race Summary Smoked looks particularly appealing here while moving over to the synthetic for the first time, and she's bred to move up on the new footing and do her best work.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#1 Spoken Vow She has already had a lot of chances. but she might get a great trip from the inside here and has been pretty honest in those last couple starts. Nibbler breaks through?
#3 Clearly Inish Think there is some upside at second asking here, and she finished up nicely in that debut run, but I wouldn't be too quick to sign on in hopes that the claiming company at Mountaineer stacks up with these.
#7 Lady Frost She and #2 Por Voce both have the credentials to make some noise in here, but I'm just not that enthused about either of them in here. Wouldn't argue too hard with you on either one, though.
Race Summary Spoken Vow might be able to hang with this crew -- not the deepest we've seen here this season at this level -- and she figures to offer an OK price with a lot of running lines on her pages and not a ton of excuses. Liked the new dynamic she showed last out.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#3 Golden Dogecoin She ran well with similar last time out and managed to finish up with a little bit of energy, and she's meeting a field full of little more than speed and chasing types, so I'm just looking for someone who can plug along late. Guessing it's this one or the next one...two-deep spot with the logicals.
#4 Nun Gimel Hay Po She's reliable enough for this kind of level, and she has some previous finishing form that could serve her well in a spot where nobody really knows how to get past other horses.
#8 Market Order Dropper might be quick enough to find the front and try to put these away into the lane, but I worry that she's going to get pressed by some other prompting types who won't stick around long -- but will do enough to soften her up.
Race Summary Market Order is the wildcard here for me -- she's got dangerous speed and could absolutely roll this group up top, but she also doesn't get the greatest race shape. Think you can stand against her unless a bunch of the other pace comes out. Golden Dogecoin and Nun Gimel Hay Po have the finishing appeal.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#8 TEMPO RIDE (6-1) Stopped in dirt route as the fave, barn works wonders off the claim.
#4 SOAR RICHARD (5-2) Played to a steady beat in out-of-town sprints for higher tags.
#7 SAVE A PRAYER (6-1) Won 3 of last 6 sprints at Parx, lures Paco, meets mostly nw/2 eligibles.
Race Summary TEMPO RIDE chased his new stablemate for 6F before he stopped as the favorite going a route of ground. He is eligible for an easier condition, but he enters a top claim barn and the runner-up from his last race went wire-to-wire recently at the nw/3 level. Bet to win and place and play an 8/4, 7/ALL trifecta.
        Parx - Race #2
#7 NIMMO (6-1) Could work out similar trip to two easy route race victories at Parx early in year.
#6 EARL OF DASSEL (9-5) Solid numbers, class drops, can surpass $100k in distance earnings.
#5 KING FREUD (5-2) Rallied for 1-2 finishes in last three starts as fave, could be sent with Paco up.
Race Summary In a field void of speed, NIMMO looms an upset threat at his maiden-breaking level with two long-distance wins on his resume. He chased odds-on runaway Rivalry (3-14, $154k) and held third in his last start. Bet to win and place and play 7-5 and 7-6 exactas.
        Parx - Race #4
#3 YOUNG AND PRETTY (2-1) Twice-beaten favorite at this level, hails from red-hot barn.
#2 ALICE FANTASTIC (9-2) Couldn’t seen to avoid trouble lines in turf routes, good fit in here.
#5 SAINT GRACE (4-1) Second in three straight, stretches out for 17-percent sprint-to-route barn.
Race Summary YOUNG AND PRETTY rallied into a slow pace and finished third in a blanket finish. She hails from a hot barn and can reward her loyal backers in a field that is a combined 0-for-58 with six runners-up. Bet to win and place and play a 2-3-5 exacta box.

              # 6 POWER VISION 6/1
STRIKING LADY looks like the wager in here. Will probably be one of the leaders of the group going into the halfway point of the competition. Is hard not to look at given the company run in as of late. ECHO VALLEY - Gorham has her trained soundly to break quickly out of the gate. The average Equibase class figure of 38 makes this one tough to beat. POWER VISION - Recent figures for the rider - 21 win percent - make this filly stand out in this group of horses.

                Prairie Meadows - Race #7 - Post: 6:32pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,600 Class Rating: 85

                Rating:

                #5 BRUCKNER (ML=7/2)
                #1 KISSED A CADET (ML=3/1)
                #6 HOOKED ON DREAMS (ML=4/1)

BRUCKNER - The August 23rd clash at Canterbury Park was at a class level of (96). Dropping to a lower level drastically, so he should be in a good spot. KISSED A CADET - I like to bet on this angle, a horse coming back off a nice effort within the last thirty days. Ranks number one in the field in earnings per start. A dominant effort right here will boost that bankroll. HOOKED ON DREAMS - This gelding is in nice form, having run a strong race on September 13th, finishing first. When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after his last outing, it generally means he's fit. Carrying 5 pounds less this race. Trainer has him in a good spot.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #2 HAYAHLOOKATME (ML=5/2), #4 MR. SWEETS (ML=5/1), #3 HEY (ML=6/1),

HAYAHLOOKATME - This probable favorite ran on August 30th and hasn't had a blow out since. MR. SWEETS - Finished first in his most recent race with a run-of-the-mill fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this field. HEY - Pace makes the race. Hard for this early speedster to be able to handle the early pressure from the rest of this field.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 BRUCKNER is the play if we get odds of 3/1 or better

                  # 9 THE GRAYT PUMPKIN 9/2
I favor LASSO here. Has run soundly when racing a dirt sprint race. With Lopez getting the mount, watch out for this horse. Ought to be given a chance here on the basis of the figs in the speed department alone. ABADIN - Has run solidly when travelling a dirt sprint race. Is a contender - given the 88 speed fig from his most recent race. THE GRAYT PUMPKIN - This gelding has posted some nice finishes in his last several efforts. I would think about this gelding on the jockey and trainer numbers alone.

POR VOCE - The August 3rd affair at Monmouth Park was at a class level of (92). Dropping down the ladder based on class rating points drastically, so she should be in a good position. Trying to be a winner for the first-time moving from a race on the grass to the main track. I think Delgado will have her fit and ready for today's event. TWORLY BLUEBELL - Russell has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware of the longer priced half. Don't often see a favorable return on investment like +26. This jockey/trainer duo has done well together over the last year. Russell, the trainer, shows intent by adding Lasix today. A positive sign. The 'x-factor' at work here is that this filly has been working over this track getting ready for her first start.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #3 CLEARLY INISH (ML=7/2), #7 LADY FROST (ML=9/2), #4 GOT A COMPLEX (ML=6/1),

CLEARLY INISH - When checking today's Equibase class figure, she will have to register a better speed rating than last time around the track to be competitive in this dirt sprint. LADY FROST - Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint contests recently. Doubtful to see her doing it in today's event either. GOT A COMPLEX - This filly hasn't been showing me anything in the last couple of efforts. Not easy to wager on any horse in a sprint event at 6/1 when she hasn't shown any successful endeavors in sprints in the last sixty days.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - POR VOCE - Analysis shows this filly's last speed number of 83 is as good as any. Don't overlook this filly in your gambling.
