    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#3 Starship Legacy Wanted to see better from her last out, but she's capable of an improved try here in a very soft spot for the level. Feels like the one drawn outside of her is the only other particularly serious player here.
#4 Bluesup Greensdown She and the top choice have both had a few chances and probably don't have a whole lot of upside at this point in time, but they aren't meeting much and figure tough. Better number on the board up top?
#6 Thy Name Is Woman She made a decent move last out before going flat late, but I feel like one of the top two will be able to get the best of her here. Playable underneath.
Race Summary Starship Legacy has a claim on this one in a soft spot -- she's obviously better than that last one and has run in a few local races that I liked a bit for their respective levels.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#5 Triple R Rated She's meeting a few other potential forward players, but she's the most consistent and committed front-ender in here and might force the hand of a couple of chasing types early.
#1 A Case Of You She wasn't totally outrun early in the only sprint race on her page, and that bodes well for the cutback effort today. Honest form fits here, but she'll need to get moving.
#3 Cloud In the Wind She has been fast enough to find the front several times in her career, and that may be enough to keep the top choice company. Might have a big say in how this plays out.
Race Summary Triple R Rated has solid sprint pace, and I'm hoping he can outsprint this crew in the early stages here and then hold late.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#4 Morning March Dropper hasn't been in very good form lately, but he's not too far removed from some decent runs against better, so I'm hoping he's ready for something more competitive today.
#7 Artempus Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here on the drop other than the likely price, as the form fits with a decent tracking trip waiting for him here.
#2 Mohtafil Honest finisher almost always shows up, and he has been competitive with some of those he's going to face here. Wouldn't be any surprise.
Race Summary Morning March has enough pace to get the jump on a couple of the other serious threats, and I'm hoping the drop into a softer spot will help him rediscover some of his better form.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #1
#7 TURBO LADY (5-1) Tries to make good on a failed odds-on promise in first start of her career.
#1 HUNGRY REGGAE (4-5) Showed passing gear in debut that could come in handy in this field.
#5 JUST PLAIN (9-2) Carried speed better in third start, gets in light-weighted again.
Race Summary TURBO LADY was out-dueled by JANE PLAIN at 5-1/2F as both settled for minor awards. But she was 3-to-5 in her debut for a reason, so hoping she can turn the tables drawing outside of the same rival at 6F today. Bet to win and place and play 7-1 and 7-5 exactas.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
#6 JAZZOLE (9-2) Earned $120k during 3-for-5 freshman season, plunges for third start this year.
#3 GIMMEETHREESTEPS (5-1) Two allowance wins and top fig two starts ago to summon.
#4 MANUELITO (5-2) Has $368k Horseshoe bankroll but is 1-16 since 2024, sheds 7 pounds.
Race Summary JAZZOLE, no factor in allowance company after 2-1/2 months away, tries to recapture some of his 2-year-old form on the big class drop. He won three in a row at Horseshoe last fall and should sit an ideal stalking trip in here. Bet to win and place and play 6-3 and 6-4 exactas.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #4
#4 CORA’S LEGACY (9-2) Seeks form reversal for new barn, appears all-or-nothing type.
#7 CACTUS FLOWER (7-5) Lands in ideal pace-controlling role from favorable post.
#3 GEORGIA ON E’SMIND ( Awakened on turf, returns to main track with something to prove.
Race Summary CORA’S LEGACY, idle since a May claim, tries sprinting for the first time for third-leading trainer Genaro Garcia. She factored for 6F in most of her route races and perhaps waited the last two weeks to be eligible for this spot. Bet to win and place.

            Race 9 - Allowance - 330y on the Dirt. Purse: $17200 Class Rating: 73

QUARTER HORSE 330Y, FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 124 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 7 JO CASH RUN 5/2
            # 5 MH AJ LAICO BIRD 6/1
            # 2 FIRST SWEETS 12/1
My choice in this contest is JO CASH RUN. Formidable average speed figures in short races make this horse a solid contender. Respectable shot today now going off Lasix. The speed rating of 67 from her most recent race looks respectable in here. MH AJ LAICO BIRD - Expect a strong attempt with the class drop. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the strongest class figures of this group of horses in this race. FIRST SWEETS - Ought to be given a shot based on the quite good speed rating garnered in the last contest.

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 119 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE JUNE 23, 2025 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $3,000. MANITOBA BRED CLAIMING PRICE $4,500.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 3 ETHAN'S ANIMAL 5/1
              # 6 PODEROSO EQUS 8/5
              # 7 PRAIRIE DRIFTER 3/1
My choice for this event is ETHAN'S ANIMAL. Is a solid choice - given the 73 speed fig from his most recent race. Has to be given a shot against this field displaying formidable figures as of late and an average speed rating of 72 under similar conditions. Desjarlais is serious with this one, wheeling him back almost immediately. PODEROSO EQUS - Looks very good for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid numbers in dirt sprint races recently. Tough to pass on this gelding with Whitehall in the irons. PRAIRIE DRIFTER - Will probably come out very solid - I have liked the way this gelding has moved promptly to the lead recently. Must be given a chance for this race if only for the solid speed rating put up in the last race.

                Presque Isle Downs - Race #1 - Post: 3:30pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 79

                Rating:

                #1 STORM WIND (ML=6/1)
                #5 CHUBS ROCKET (ML=3/1)

STORM WIND - Likes to go to the front end and the fact that today is a shorter distance should be advantageous. I like this gelding. Has the topmost earnings per race in this contest. CHUBS ROCKET - Last time around the track, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. A good indication he can close well, and should be right there at the wire in today's contest.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 DRUNKLE (ML=7/5), #4 ARTICLE (ML=5/2), #2 PARTY AT THE BEACH (ML=5/1),

DRUNKLE - If you keep betting these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be disappointed often. ARTICLE - Tough to take this less than sharp equine at the price after the finish (sixth) in the last affair. Finished sixth in his most recent effort with a mediocre speed rating. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. PARTY AT THE BEACH - Can't bet on this runner in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even hit the board in a short distance event recently.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #1 STORM WIND on the win end if we get at least 2/1 odds

                  Mountaineer Park - Race #5 - Post: 8:40pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 83

                  Rating:

                  #1 NOW N LATER GATOR (ML=6/1)
                  #6 BIG SMILE (ML=3/1)

NOW N LATER GATOR - This thoroughbred ran out of the money at Mountaineer Park last time out on a track listed as good. He should improve right here in this race on a fast track. Vigil and Silva partnered up are a railbird's friend. BIG SMILE - This horse is not the M/L favorite, yet he finished ahead of today's chalk in their last race together. That 77 fig this gelding notched in his last affair tells me he's a main player this time out.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 COURT CONTENDER (ML=2/1), #2 SCRATCHOFF (ML=7/2), #4 HEADS OR TAILS (ML=4/1),

COURT CONTENDER - In any contest of 6 furlongs, I like to wager on a contender that has been on the board in sprint affairs recently. SCRATCHOFF - If you keep choosing these kind of 'hanger' types, you're going to be disillusioned most every time. When checking today's class figure, he will have to notch a better speed rating than last race out to compete in this dirt sprint. HEADS OR TAILS - 4/1 is not priced right for any thoroughbred in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a short distance affair lately. Hasn't been close to winning at all lately.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #1 NOW N LATER GATOR is going to be the play if we are getting 5/2 or better
