Santa Anita Meet Opens with New Wager, Player-Friendly Offerings

The 2025 Autumn Meet at Santa Anita features a customary bevy of important opening weekend stakes, but horseplayers also will find a new wager on the menu. The Sunset 6 debuts Friday and will be offered each racing day in conjunction with sister track Gulfstream Park in Florida.

The Sunset 6 is a pick 6 wager comprised of the final 3 races on the daily cards at both Santa Anita and Gulfstream. The consistent race lineup makes it easy for horseplayers to work in advance on constructing tickets to the $1 base wager, which boasts a player-friendly 15% takeout. CAW play is forbidden in the Sunset 6, making it “retail-only.”

There are no consolation payouts in the Sunset 6, meaning 100% of the net pool after takeout will carry over to the next day’s racing if no players deliver all 6 winners.

The new Sunset 6 joins the popular Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 on the daily menu, which debuted at the start of the 2024-’25 Santa Anita season. The Coast-to-Coast pick 5 also matches races from Santa Anita and Gulfstream, and similarly is a $1 base wager with 15% takeout and retail-only offering. Track management selects the 5 races of the Coast-to-Coast upon entries being drawn at both tracks.

In other Santa Anita wagering news: other highlights include a traditional $2 Pick 6 offered on Santa Anita’s final six races; and low 15% takeout wagers with the $5 late Daily Double, $3 late Pick 3 and $3 All Turf Pick 3.
