Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    September 29, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 roll in Race 5, and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Panettone Hanover (2-1)-Bumps up after posting a win with a .55 back half to roll by and draw off by almost 5 lengths. Regular driver Jordan Stratton steers for his brother and he should have in play down the lane.
3-Deetzy (4-1)-Recent form has been dull, now drops and hasn’t been in this soft in quite a while. This movie has played here before. Brent Holland leaves, lands on the point and makes every call a winning at a square price.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

4-Soho Firestone A (4-1)-Made a rare break in stride in the Aria on 9-13 and requalified on 9-19 in a snappy 151.4. The Dilloian trainee hit the board in 11 out of 14 with 4 wins on the Hilltop. After that qualifier the veteran appears ready to take a picture.
7-Jamaican Rock A (5/2)-Started from the 8-hole in the Aria and didn’t have pace to close into and finished a beaten 3rd. Matt Kakaley gets the call and he has won with the Aussie bred before. Will look for an aggressive drive, could blast out and be difficult to tackle if gets the lead off the car.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Vicious (2-1)-Shipped in from M1 five back. Has won every other start since then and has finished 2nd in the other 2 races. If the pattern holds, he finishes 2nd here but from the rail another win is well within reach.
2-Hemsworth N (7/2)-Beat this kind 2 back and then faced the Invites in last. Didn’t take any money leaving from post 3, went off at 39-1 and never got involved. A picture is more likely on the drop and could be on the back of Vicious all the way around and trip out for the win.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

4-Night Hawk (5/2)-Needs a close-up seat to win and did so from this same post on 7-29. That picture came against this kind with George Brennan between the pipes working a sharp steer. Tonight, the same pilot needs to be in reach of the leader turning for the wire.
5-Wattsup Sunshine A (7/2)-Went off at 8/5 and tried to go gate to wire. That plan failed, faded down the lane, and now drops to face easier. Recent form has been dull but that was against better. Did beat this kind and better in July and since then hasn't connected. Tyler Buter could be headed for the top and that might lead to an overdue win.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,3/4,7/1,2/4,5
    Total Bet=$16

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#1 St. Emilon Not too confident here with the unreliable form, but he ran OK over this course in his career debut and went well enough going long at Mountaineer two back before the dull run in a tougher Kentucky Downs spot. Guessing we'll see better today in this first local route try.
#4 And That's My Story He's already had a lot of chances, so he's tough to trust, but he should find another really good spot near the top here and makes sense with his best. He seems to tend to get bored when he hits the top -- as he has done in his last four starts before coughing up the lead -- so it's on Bays to ask this one to move at the right time today.
#6 Coastal Breeze Not much wrong through two starts going short, and the pedigree says yes to the move around two turns today. Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here, but he feels like a trap to me at a likely underlaid price.
Race Summary St. Emilon looks interesting here while getting some class relief out of the Kentucky Downs spot, and he's got the positional pace to find a good spot from the inside here.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#6 Hector Not a whole lot to write home about in the last few starts, but he might appreciate the cutback today and woke up a bit when getting out of stakes company last out. Overlooked here?
#3 Tarsus Warrior Really good try in that stakes spot last time out should make him tough, and he's got the pace to get involved early again here. The one to beat -- baseline stuff would do.
#3 Schnittker He never runs a bad one and looks for a third score in a row after handling the hike last time out, and he has some versatile pace to find a good spot in the early going. Capable.
Race Summary Tarsus Warrior wins this -- or someone else does. That's the question for me, and I'm hoping Hector can spring a mild upset here after a very unreliable year so far. but his better efforts might do.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#3 Growth Capital I like him and #10 Ronic a bit out of that same common race while they stretch out here. This guy has struggled in local routes and only woke up again when sent short, but his Tampa route form suggests he should be better than he has showed here so far. Got a feeling he's going to show up, and I want someone close to the top today.
#1 Midnight Ambition He should be an OK price in here, but he has been pretty honest here this season and can bring something better than he showed last time out. Bit of a reach, but he wouldn't knock me out of my chair.
#8 Burning Leaves Not totally sure what to do with him -- a lot of his form has come with better groups on tougher circuits, but don't you want to have seen just a touch more in either of those last two? I respect his best, but I don't think the price is going to be reflective of his real chances here. Not for me.
Race Summary Growth Capital, Ronic, and Midnight Ambition might be the right trio to use to try to see out the finale in the multi-race plays. They all may be midrange prices, and all have some appeal today.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #2
#5 ALYVIA’S GIRL (5-2) Seeks duplicate of front-end try two back, starts for new connections.
#7 FLAG SONG FLYIN (4-1) Distant second after troubled start, sheds 7 pounds, starts fresh.
#1 MELITTLEFROSTGIRL (5-1) Forward threat from rail, gets in light, met several next-out winners.
Race Summary ALYVIA’S GIRL, the lone two-race winner in a field that is a combined 8-for-111, came up ‘empty’ in a crowded field last out for a higher tag. But she was 7/2-2-3 in her previous seven starts and her near miss two starts ago clearly make her the one to beat. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-7 exactas.
        Parx - Race #4
#4 GOLD CREST (7-2) Improved in this barn, will be running late, use in all gimmick wages.
#2 LA CIENEGA (3-1) Low-60 Beyer type is 6-17 at Parx and working forwardly for return.
#6 CREATIVE COPY (4-1) Piling up the checks, enters barn on 8-for-23 run with claims.
Race Summary GOLD CREST, third in her last three starts, rallied wide on a muddy track at 6F in her lone start at the $7,500 level, then met better in her last two go-rounds. She could have favored LA CIENEGA to run down, but should offer good enough value for a win and place bet. Also play a 2-4-6 exacta box.
        Parx - Race #5
#7 GOTMISTYONTHEMIND (5-2) Stayed after fave, gained late for second, drifted less with blinks on.
#8 BAHAMIAN BABY (5-1) Exits ‘key’ race, hit board in prior three starts, but stands 1-30 overall.
#3 SUPERSONIC BETTY (6-1) Need not be much to contend in this field for hot barn.
Race Summary GOTMISTYONTHEMIND, under urging most of the race, followed the move of the 6-to-5 winner on the turn and stayed on willingly for second despite wandering a bit at the top of the stretch. She wandered worse in her debut, when she dueled most of the way with the winner in a four-horse field that was reduced to three when the 1-to-5 favorite pulled up early. Bet to win and place and play 7-3 and 7-8 exactas.

              # 10 GENTLEMAN 727 4/1
              # 8 JAXON JAMES 5/2
MOMMA SAYS IMSPECIAL has a competitive shot to take this race. Will more than likely be one of the leaders of the pack going into the halfway point of the contest. He has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the most favorable in this field. GENTLEMAN 727 - This group is much softer than the last one he was up against. With a strong 60 speed figure last time out, will definitely be a factor in this contest. JAXON JAMES - Shows evidence of the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 59 speed figure which is one of the strongest in this group. Should be given consideration based on the respectable Equibase Speed Fig posted in the last race.

                Parx Racing - Race #5 - Post: 2:28pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 43

                Rating:

                #8 BAHAMIAN BABY (ML=5/1)
                #7 GOTMISTYONTHEMIND (ML=5/2)

BAHAMIAN BABY - You'll be generating money right and left by turning your cash onto this rider/conditioner combination. I think this filly is ready to run a good one. She's had enough races since the layoff and should be fit. GOTMISTYONTHEMIND - This filly ran well in her last race but just couldn't conquer the winner. Note that she was well ahead of the show horse, and looks like a major contender in this field. A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a strong race is a good omen. The 43 latest race speed rating looks strong in black and white.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #6 FAUX PAS (ML=4/1), #9 SAVANNAH GEORGIA (ML=5/1), #3 SUPERSONIC BETTY (ML=6/1),

FAUX PAS - Hard to recommend any animal with deteriorating speed figures of 34/26/16. Multiple chances for this horse at Parx Racing and still hasn't received her first victory here. SAVANNAH GEORGIA - Difficult to take this steed at the price after the finish (third) in the last race. This vulnerable equine ran a mediocre speed figure in the last race. She shouldn't run much better and will probably lose today running that number. SUPERSONIC BETTY - Doesn't look to have enough positive angles to justify the price.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #8 BAHAMIAN BABY is going to be the play if we are getting 5/2 or better

                  # 3 AELFGAR 5/1
                  # 7 SEAMS LIKE DESTINY 10/1
MR. RIPPLE gets the edge as the wager in here. Is hard not to consider based on speed figures which have been solid - 88 avg - of late. Must be considered - I like the numbers from the last contest. Has been moving in the most competitive company of the group of horses lately. AELFGAR - With a very good 88 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this affair. Has a solid record at the distance and surface, which makes me back this gelding. SEAMS LIKE DESTINY - This gelding has a good winning percentage in dirt route races. With Harkie uptop him, this gelding should be able to break out quickly in this race.

                    Mountaineer Park - Race #6 - Post: 9:05pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 89

                    Rating:

                    #7 KRUG (ML=8/1)

CAVENDISH - Aboard this horse on Sep 1st and Tapara is yet again in the irons in today's contest. I look for this pony to sit chilly and make a solid move on the turn, cruising straight on to the finish line. KRUG - Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is up against an easier field than last out at Mountaineer Park. FENWICK JACK - Trainer Demczyk moves this horse to a lower level to face a weaker class today. Look for a nice performance in here. Look at this gelding's PP lines. With each race he keeps getting closer. The rider/conditioner twosome of Barrios and Demczyk has a strong ROI together. This gelding earned a nice speed rating of 89 in his last event. That speed figure should be high enough to score today. This gelding is in superb form right now. Ended up second last time around the track and comes back soon.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 LORD ANTE (ML=5/2), #3 HORNBEAM (ML=4/1), #2 CONFESSOR (ML=5/1),

LORD ANTE - Ran well to finish first on September 7th, but hasn't had even a single workout since then. HORNBEAM - The speed fig last time out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this racer as a likely underlay. CONFESSOR - The speed rating last time out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's affair. Mark this mount as a possibly overvalued equine.
