    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #5
#2 Reigert Girls She has a handful of OK tries over this surface and brings some solid recent Penn National form with her to this one. Mild worry about the cutback in a race without a huge amount of serious pace, but she has been tactical enough going short in the past to put those concerns to rest.
#4 Zo Lee She has been in with some pretty good groups and should find a good spot right up near the top, and she ran really well here in stakes company last year. Can be tough.
#7 Milliat She finds an easier spot today than she saw at Kentucky Downs last time out, and she looks like the one to fear late with a pretty honest late kick to her name. Enough to like.
Race Summary Reigert Girls looks the part here while turning back off a couple of solid scores, and the local sprint tries here last season were pretty good. I'll bite.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#8 Wow Whata Party He might be a bit too cheap for these, but he has done decent local work and looked good in the score last time out. Spying run gives him a bit of a jump on the deeper closers?
#6 Mccullough He's got a bit more tactical pace than he showed last out in another good finishing effort, and he should get every chance to kick into the splits here. Enough to like, but I wouldn't want too short a price while trying the new footing off the bench.
#4 He's a Mess His better stuff would do here, and he's coming out of the meet's route centerpiece last time around when slowly away at the start. Bit more positional today? One of the ones.
Race Summary Think you can make an honest enough case for a lot of these -- I also think #3 Calvin's Ride is worth a pressing look while in good form.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#1 Watermelon Crush No confirmed pace in here except for this guy who just turned in a Colonial frontrunning score, and he might be able to shake free of this group into the far turn. Think he could like it here.
#5 Chill Boss Tactical speed should find a great spot tracking the top choice, and he has been a good fit since returning to this kind of level. Wouldn't be thrilled for another short price, but he's probably going to be tough.
#4 Palace Revolt He's another with a bit of positional speed that could keep him in a pretty good spot and in touch throughout while getting back around two turns. Not super enthused about him, but he wouldn't be a shock.
Race Summary Watermelon Crush has some pace to work with in this one, and I'm hoping he can keep Chill Boss at bay while that one tracks the whole way. Fun race for the level.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #1
#3 BAZZARO (7-2) Showed speed with blinkers removed, can make maximum use of it in this spot.
#4 GROUND SHAKER (5-2) Third in pair of higher-tagged recent routes behind next-out winners.
#6 DECATUR STREET (9-5) Second best in last two 5-1/2F sprints at the Horseshoe.
Race Summary BAZARRO led for this far in a crowded one-mile turf race before tiring and he pressed a fast pace in a MSW sprint the last time he ran on the main track. He gets in light-weighted and can carry his speed to victory on the class drop. Bet to win and place and play 3-4 and 3-6 exactas.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #3
#5 U R NOT THE FATHER (8-1) Could hold tactical edge if he handles switch back to dirt, good price.
#4 INCLINED (8-5) Second in 4 of last 5 starts with the benefit of ideal pace setups.
#1 SHOWDOWN JUSTICE (9-2) Sometimes gets brave on the lead that should be his from the rail.
Race Summary U R NOT THE FATHER made middle moves in his last three starts, all going long on the turf. He could get first run on the favorites and sustain a similar rally on the return to the main track. He changes riders and is worth a win and place wager at 8-1 on the morning line. Also play a 1-4-5 exacta box.
      Horseshoe Indianapolis - Race #5
#4 STARSPANGLEDIMAGE (2-1) Finished full of run in shorter MSW sprint, today’s Best Bet.
#2 BELLA’S CHARM (12-1) Useful seasonal debut in fast-paced sprint, lures De La Cruz.
#5 MORE THAN A DREAM (5-1) Took some debut money against winning stablemate, sheds 7 pounds.
Race Summary STARSPANGLEDIMAGE finished fastest after an awkward start in MSW company two back. He swung 6-wide in the stretch, got up for third and continued strong on the gallop out. The class drop and extra half furlong should land him a spot in the winners’ circle today. Make a flat win bet and a 4-ALL exacta.

            Race 5 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $9000 Class Rating: 64

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE JUNE 30 ALLOWED 2 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 1 CUTADAY 3/1
            # 7 TRUIST 2/1
            # 4 GOLD JERRY 4/1
CUTADAY has a strong shot to take this race. Has run solidly when running a dirt route race. Conditioner has strong win rate (17 percent) at this distance and surface. Lynch has shown excellent profits (+68 return on investment ) at this distance/surface. TRUIST - Looks decent to be up on the lead at the first call. Is a solid contender - given the 64 speed rating from his most recent race. GOLD JERRY - Has competitive early speed and will probably fare quite well versus this group. The Equibase class rating of today's contest is much lower than his last affair.

              # 3 COUNT THE CASH 5/2
              # 4 STARSPANGLEDIMAGE 2/1
I've got to go with MORE THAN A DREAM. COUNT THE CASH - Leahey has been on fire the last month, winning at a nifty 17 percent rate. STARSPANGLEDIMAGE - Must be given a shot here on the basis of the figures in the speed department alone. Has to be carefully examined - I like the figures from the last affair.

                Mountaineer Park - Race #1 - Post: 7:00pm - Optional Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 81

                Rating:

                #6 GIACOMO CASANOVA (ML=7/2)

GIACOMO CASANOVA - Rode this animal on September 7th and Aviles is back again in the irons this time around. This gelding is in fine physical condition. Finished third on September 7th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 RIVER WARRIOR RVF (ML=2/1), #4 ROAD MINISTER (ML=5/2), #1 ZEALOUS STORM (ML=5/1),

RIVER WARRIOR RVF - You should normally bet against morning-line choices that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. ROAD MINISTER - Recorded a most unsatisfactory speed rating last time out in an $8,000 Claiming race on September 20th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that rating. ZEALOUS STORM - Any speed rating attained in the slop must be taken with a grain of salt.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #6 GIACOMO CASANOVA is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better
                EXACTA WAGERS: Pass

                  Belterra Park - Race #2 - Post: 1:05pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 66

                  Rating:

                  #7 LEISUREWEAR (IRE) (ML=3/1)
                  #2 TICKET TO FLY (ML=9/2)

LEISUREWEAR (IRE) - Great chance for this pony. Solid late speed and should have good position. Ranks number one in the field in earnings per start. A dominant try in today's race will boost that total. TICKET TO FLY - When this jockey and trainer combine forces you have to take a look. Pauly and Greenhill have been fabulous together. Filly's finish positions keep getting better with each race. Maybe today's the day. Have to make this filly a solid contender; she comes off a nice contest on September 5th.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #5 LONIE MO (ML=5/2), #1 MARKET OF STOCKS (ML=4/1), #6 YAREE D TAT (ML=6/1),

LONIE MO - This filly registered a fig in her last race which likely isn't good enough today. MARKET OF STOCKS - Even though victorious in last, didn't finish the way you'd like to see when stepping up to face tougher opponents. Notched a common speed rating last time around the track in a $5,000 Claiming race on Sep 18th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that fig.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - LEISUREWEAR (IRE) - The affair on Sep 3rd had a class rating of 83 while today's class rating is 66. I got to bet this one on such a big drop.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #7 LEISUREWEAR (IRE) to win if we can get at least 7/5 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [2,7]
