    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#1 Yes I'm Jess Curious how the board will shake out between this guy and the next one, but I wonder if this one offers just a slightly better number than he has in the last few starts thanks to the next guy's presence? Think this is the right day.
#3 Muntage Assuming he'll take at least a little cash for a dangerous team with a couple of OK tries on his page, and I think he's going to find a really dreamy spot right up on the splits. Should be one of these two.
#4 Hiding in Honduras Take a look at him on the tote and track ahead of this and adjust as needed based on your gut, but there's a little bit of pedigree here for a capable team -- so don't totally gloss over him.
Race Summary Really prefer Yes I'm Jess in here with some reliable form and a good, forward trip waiting for him. Next two are a couple of question marks at what may not be appealing prices.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#1 Spirited Sol This guy is pretty honest locally and often gets let go at some big numbers on the board, and I'm hoping the one drawn widest will keep the guy who beat him last out a bit more honest up top. Could cozy in behind those two. Pretty strong risk vs. reward lean for me if he's offering something like the 6/1 ML price or better.
#2 John Dutton He sprinted the top choice off his feet last time out and could do so again today, but I just wonder if that race flow gets a tiny bit tougher today even in this small group. Obviously capable.
#5 That's Right There are some very good names in his company lines, and he's fast enough to keep pace early at this kind of trip. Think he draws well to force the issue and open a lead into the lane, but I worry about the fact that he has given away ground in the stretch call in nine of the 10 races on his page. Might be begging to get picked up late.
Race Summary Spirited Sol is a fun type who has run into some pretty good ones -- the two-back winner is a local stakes winner, and this guy has been right behind a couple of these players so far this season. The addition of That's Right to the cast today could spice things up just enough for him to get a perfect run through the pocket.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#6 Silent Raindrops Not super thrilled with the debut run, but it looks like the front end will be there for the taking while she stretches out in a group without any true early burn. Reasonable upside with a pedigree that says she might handle it? Could be gone turning for home if she doesn't take any serious heat.
#8 Sunshine Daydream That last one at Kentucky Downs wasn't great, but it also wasn't horrible, and she could get an OK kind of tracking trip while watching the top choice into the first turn. First-jump run on the deeper finishers for a solid barn.
#4 Chasing the Storm Nothing from her in the debut try, but that came against a better group at Saratoga and could have her set up for better today. Fun race -- I really don't know what to do with this one.
Race Summary Silent Raindrops is another pretty intriguing lean for me on a day when all three of my daily selections here have a lot of appeal. Hoping she's able to put this one away with a race flow edge.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Woodbine - Race #3
#4 NOYZEE GIRL (10-1) Loomed boldly in back-to-back sprints before trouble arose in latest start.
#5 RYO AMAZING (4-1) Sustained rail run to stretch lead, tired late at same distance, sheds the blinkers.
#8 BEACH CRICKET (6-1) Well-beaten fave takes another class drop, sheds 5 pounds with Moran up today.
Race Summary NOYZEE GIRL can be excused for a rough trip last out, but she finished in the money at three sprint distances in her prior four starts. She was 4- and 5-wide throughout when second at 6-1/2F three starts ago, then sat a perfect ground-saving trip but was out-kicked in a blanket finish at 6F two back. Bet to win and place and play 4-5 and 4-8 exactas.
      Woodbine - Race #5
#1 PHILLIP MY WINE (4-5) Steadily improving, distance suits in repeat bid for high-percentage connections.
#4 EL COHETE(8-1) Heavily-bet is six starts at this level, tries to upstage in-the-money finishes.
#3 PIERRE (3-1) Turned back El Cohete and just missed winning in lone grass try this year.
Race Summary PHILLIP MY WINE cruised to the lead on the final turn of a 1-1/16-mile turf route and accelerated away from the field in the stretch to post his top speed figure. He is perfectly spotted to repeat on the cutback in distance that should suit him perfectly. Make a win and place wager on today’s Best Bet and play 1-3 and 1-4 exactas.
      Woodbine - Race #1
#1 CHEAT THE DEVIL (2-1) ‘Had more’ when needed in fast-paced maiden win, takes some catching in here.
#6 EASTER SUNDAY GIRL (3-1) Rallied for a near miss and runaway win at 7F, needs some pace flow.
#7 RADIO GOO GOO (6-1) Improved 7F and 1M form on turf, gets in light on return to synthetic track.
Race Summary CHEAT THE DEVIL emerged from a four-way scramble with a clear lead into the turn, then found more when the trip-sitting runner-up came calling in the stretch. She can control the pace from the rail in this spot and carry her speed an extra furlong to win again. Bet to win and place and play 1-6 and 1-7 exactas.

            Hawthorne - Race #7 - Post: 5:44pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,000 Class Rating: 81

            Rating:

            #3 EASY FAST (ML=3/1)
            #2 XAVI (ML=5/1)

EASY FAST - After the event aboard this animal on July 27th, the jock is going to be in tune with the gelding much better. The jockey/trainer duet of Mojica and DiVito has a strong return on investment together. This gelding is obviously on the improve with speed figs of 70, 72, 75 last 3 out. XAVI - I expect this race horse to bewilder some people in today's event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 DOUBLE ECHO (ML=2/1), #8 SHTARKER (ML=6/1), #7 DASH TO THE CASH (ML=8/1),

DOUBLE ECHO - Just can't play this runner. Didn't show me anything in the last race or on Sep 13th. SHTARKER - 6/1 odds isn't enough for this one when scrutinizing the most recent showings. DASH TO THE CASH - Can't make a habit of betting on ponies that rarely win.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - EASY FAST - DiVito is making good money with this horse. Tops in earnings per start.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 EASY FAST to win at post-time odds of 5/2 or better

              # 4 TUENDA 8/5
              # 5 LAST CHANCE DANCE 8/1
              # 3 TAP THE LINE 5/2
I think TUENDA is a quite good choice. Has run quite well when running a dirt route race. Could beat this field given the 72 speed rating posted in her last outing. Have to consider solely on class, with some of the best class figures of this group. LAST CHANCE DANCE - Could best this group of animals based on the speed figure - 68 - of her last race. TAP THE LINE - With a strong 50 average speed rating at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. Might best this group of horses here, showing very good numbers of late.

                # 6 GO WEST 3/1
                # 2 ROMAN GIANT 10/1
                # 3 SUNDAY BLING 12/1
I've got to go with GO WEST. Must be given a chance here on the basis of the numbers in the speed department alone. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this gelding. Seems to have a very good class edge based on the latest company kept. ROMAN GIANT - Could best this field based on the speed fig - 81 - of his last race. Has to be carefully examined against this field displaying decent numbers lately and an average speed figure of 78 under similar conditions. SUNDAY BLING - Is hard not to consider based on Speed Figures which have been decent - 76 avg - of late. Ought to compete admirably in the early speed battle which bodes well with this group.

                  Woodbine - Race #6 - Post: 7:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $32,500 Class Rating: 60

                  Rating:

                  #1 NASHYAN (ML=7/2)
                  #5 CONQUER THE STORM (ML=15/1)

NASHYAN - Numerous positive 'sensations' connected with this thoroughbred and her stable. CONQUER THE STORM - Took a drop in class last out, running against the same type today.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 SULTRY SOPHIE (ML=5/2), #2 ECLIPTICAL LADYBUG (ML=3/1), #6 BLACK GODDESS (ML=5/1),

SULTRY SOPHIE - 5/2 odds isn't enough for this participant when checking the most recent efforts. Finished fifth in her most recent effort with a disappointing speed rating. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this group. ECLIPTICAL LADYBUG - Finished third in her most recent performance with a most unsatisfactory rating. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch. BLACK GODDESS - Difficult to play any thoroughbred to turn things around if there is no reward to taking the stab.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #1 NASHYAN on top if we're getting at least 8/5 odds
