Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    October 6, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with an extended 12-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Rockin JukeBox (5/2)-Could not seal the deal last week leaving from the rail. But Jason Bartlett is at the controls tonight and he almost won 2 back from the 8-hole with the Joe B entry. Bartlett posts 39% winners for this outfit and will respect chances.
6-Hellabalou (7/2)-Steps up after drawing off by 5 lengths against the NW15000 on 9-29. Went gate to wire in last and this will be more difficult but not looking for a gate to wire win. The Burke trainee also knows how to take a picture coming off cover.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

4-Dunkin' (2-1)-Went off at 3/5 in last and was driven like it by George Brennan. Left hard from post 8, got the top and never looked back. Now steps up, but if ready to roll it won't matter. Could follow the same script and that was the 1st win at YR since 7-7. Going to assume last week was a wakeup call and could double up with the post relief.
6-All Class (7/2)-Drops after cashing a 2nd place check leaving from post 2. Starting outside helps the price and still can be no worse than in the pocket off the gate. Could be sitting on a big try in the 2nd start off a sick scratch.

    Race 11 (10:05 PM EDT)

4-Nandolo N (2-1)-Father Time seemingly has caught up to this classy veteran but will use on a double drop in class. Could make short work of this crew if feeling good but lately everything is a struggle. Probably will still need the right trip to win and won't offer any value.
7-JM's Finaltreasure (9/2)-Has cashed smaller checks in the last 2 races facing $60k claimers. The horse who wins this affair could be the one who gets the smoothest trip. Brennan could look to seize an opportunity to leave off the gate to get a decent seat. Has a back class edge on most of this field and will look for an aggressive drive.

    Race 12 (10:25 PM EDT)

2-Panettone Hanover (3-1)-Comes off 2 sharp wins, the last one was in 152.3 and drew off by 6 lengths. Is 3 big miles in a row too much to ask? Faces better but could get the top again and wouldn't want the team Stratton 5-year-old to bust up the ticket.
6-Soho Santorini A (6-1)-Cashed 3rd place checks against better, dropped in last and suffered broken equipment. Still managed to finish 2nd so now bumps up and still fits. Has gate speed to be put in play early on and Brennan should do just that.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,6/4,6/4,7/2,6
    Total Bet=$32

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#4 More Than Grace Don't think the price is going to be much here, but she has some pace that has stayed early with some tougher groups than she's going to find here. Think she might just run these off.
#2 Golden Dogecoin Riser is probably too cheap to land this, but his last couple have been OK and he might get past some of these late in a race without a whole lot of finishing punch. Underneath.
#3 Popcorn N Peaches Fresh face isn't meeting the deepest bunch you're ever going to see, and so take a look at her on the tote and track ahead of this.
Race Summary More Than Grace looks the part here while coming in from Aqueduct with a little bit of pace that could put away the chasing types off the turn.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#3 Nice as Pie She has always done her best work on synthetic footing, and I bet she can get this kind of trip with this kind of group. Talent is there, and I've always thought very highly of her.
#5 Candy Reward Dropper couldn't quite hang in the local Grade II last out, but she wasn't embarrassed that day and should get a great spy today. Wouldn't argue with you.
#1 Blitz Inside pace will probably have a go for it in a spot without a ton of serious early burn, and if the few pressing types don't push on the gas a little bit, I wouldn't be shocked to see her run off with this.
Race Summary Nice as Pie is a pretty reliable finisher, and she has done most of her work going short. Always a chance you're going to get caught in a trap of a closing sprinter going long, but I think she's going to get a great run of things without having to finish from way out of it.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#1 Warrior's Defense There are a couple other forward players lined up in here, but there isn't really anything that serious as far as committed front-end pace, and I wonder if she might find herself in a really nice spot into the far turn if she likes the new footing.
#8 Settling Storm The OK running line with better at Kentucky Downs is only hiding the two fairly mild efforts here earlier this season, but she makes sense and can obviously win this. I just can't get that excited here today.
#4 Little Martha Would want a decent price to buy today, but there's a scenario in which I see her tracking the early leaders and getting towed to the front turning for home. Could she plug away to hold from there? Not impossible.
Race Summary Warrior's Defense has the pace to find a trip from the fence while making her local debut, and I think there are going to be some appealing prices on the board today with #3 Souper Amusing likely to take some cash while making her first start here. She is imposing with her best, but she doesn't look *that* much better than some of the others in here and came up short at 90 cents on the dollar last out. Your call.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#3 QUIET APPEAL (7-2) Earning his keep in main-track sprints, projects ideal trip from the rail.
#1 POSSUM (4-1) Gets class relief, cuts back to winning distance, fresh off :48.1 work at Parx.
#9 CAPTAIN FANCY (5-1) Steady mid-60 Beyer type draws outside in repeat attempt.
Race Summary QUIET APPEAL broke his maiden at this distance and finished in the money in three dirt sprints since then, two against Pennsylvania-bred allowance rivals. He was bumped at the break and caught 4-wide at 5-1/2F last out, but should sit a good trip from just off the pace with a clean break. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-9 exacta box.
        Parx - Race #2
#5 WEST SIDE DIVA (2-1) Takes magnified class drop, takes catching in second start since January.
#3 CYNTHIA GAIL (5-2) Led after 6F, held on to finish a distant second in longer route race.
#1 ALICE FANTASTIC (7-2) Mild rally into slow pace on return to main track, best of the rest.
Race Summary WEST SIDE DIVA pressed the fleet-footed favorite to the turn on a sloppy track, then drifted very wide turning for home despite wearing blinkers. She has to carry her speed a mile today, but she gets in light-weighted and catches a very weak field. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-3 exactas.
        Parx - Race #7
#4 THIRSTY PAPPY (5-1) Proved versatile in back-to-back 6F victories, value remains on class hike.
#9 TATUM (6-1) Blazed to win for new barn two back but back-pedaled in higher-tagged long sprint.
#2 NEIGH DUDE (4-1) Took step back in last pair, fired off freshening to start 2025 season.
Race Summary THIRSTY PAPPY won from on and off the pace in his last two starts, now steps up in class while seeking his 10th win in 40 starts. He earned the top speed figure of his $260k career two starts ago and should make a contending run off a contested pace. Bet to win and place and play a 2-4-9 exacta box.

              # 1 FOREVER GREEDY 9/2
My choice in this event is KEG especially at a long price. TAKECHARGEJUSTICE - Could beat this group given the 85 speed fig posted in his last outing. Has a strong shot for this race if you like back class. FOREVER GREEDY - Has to be given consideration here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone. Is a key contender - given the 75 speed rating from his most recent race.

                Mountaineer Park - Race #1 - Post: 7:00pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,500 Class Rating: 77

                Rating:

                #3 SHE'S SO BEARRISH (ML=9/2)
                #6 HONOUR'S CHOICE (ML=8/1)

SHE'S SO BEARRISH - Looks like the lone speed of the race. Should be tough on the front-end. Last time around the track was at Mountaineer Park in a race with a class rating of 83. Dropping a significant amount in Equibase class figure this time around puts her in a solid position right here. HONOUR'S CHOICE - Running over a familiar track, where she has won multiple times before, I have to put this horse at the top of my list of choice plays. This jockey fits well with this horse. The mare and Whitacre together win at a rate of 75 percent.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 THINK IT THRU (ML=8/5), #2 SUM KINDA PRETTY (ML=5/2), #1 REVENUE TRAIN (ML=4/1),

THINK IT THRU - This favorite hasn't been to the track in awhile. No drills since last race. SUM KINDA PRETTY - Based on the pace scenario in this race, this animal doesn't fit in here. With a single front-runner and this horse having to race from behind, she sure has a tough assignment. You figure that this horse is going to win just because she's always close. Just doesn't get the job done frequently. REVENUE TRAIN - Not likely that this horse will finish better than she did last time out of the box when placing sixth. Finished sixth in her most recent performance with a quite unimpressive fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this group.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 SHE'S SO BEARRISH to win at post-time odds of 2/1 or better

                  # 1 LION IN THE SUN 5/1
                  # 4 COOL MILLION 2/1
My choice here is DARK DEVIL. Is worth taking a close look at and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figures (80 average) at today's distance and surface as of late. Difficult to pass on this gelding with Marin in the irons. Is hard not to examine given the company run in lately. LION IN THE SUN - Coletti has a strong 15 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. Could best this group based on the speed figure - 74 - of his last race. COOL MILLION - Ought to be given a shot in this competition if only for the solid Equibase speed fig recorded in the last competition. Is worth a look and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figs (66 average) at today's distance and surface lately.

                    Belterra Park - Race #6 - Post: 3:05pm - SO - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 88

                    Rating:

                    #4 EL PEJE (ML=4/1)
                    #9 HUNTERTOWN (ML=3/1)
                    #1 RANSOMWARE (ML=12/1)

EL PEJE - I took a look at this gelding's finishes. He's almost always in-the-money. Not much pace in this race other than this pony. This thoroughbred coming off a strong performance in the last month is a serious competitor in my book. HUNTERTOWN - That last outing must not have been too hard on this gelding for him to be able to race again so quickly. RANSOMWARE - Jockey hops up aloft after getting to know the race horse by riding in the last race. That's always a great angle. This rider/handler duo has been producing a very profitable ROI, right at +52. The fact that this gelding is entered right back into a race so quickly means he's fit and ready. This animal already beat the morning-line choice last time around the track at Belterra Park. Have to give this gelding a chance. Ran a strong contest last out within the last month or so.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #8 PINEDALE (ML=9/2), #6 FOR MAMA (ML=5/1), #5 SWAYBACK JACK (ML=6/1),

PINEDALE - This group is a whole lot tougher than the ones he met in the last event. FOR MAMA - Finished first in his most recent effort with a somewhat easily forgotten speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. SWAYBACK JACK - Don't think this questionable contender will make an impact in today's event. That last fig was common when compared with today's class rating.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - EL PEJE - After a layoff, has had a few races and today he enters a sprint race. Should be back in form, so I expect this horse to perform well in this event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 EL PEJE to win if we can get at least 7/2 odds
