    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#1 Strike d'Oro Think she's going to find a great spot while likely tucked in just behind some more committed forward players, and that may leave her in the right place to outfinish these.
#2 Thank You Amy Should be one of these two to land it, as she gets some class relief out of the stakes spot last out and looks like the best of the pace.
#3 Miss Moxee She drilled a softer claiming group at first asking, and she should be in the mix while prompting 'Amy the whole way. Not impossible with some upside, but she has some questions to answer on class and race flow.
Race Summary Strike d'Oro might tuck into a really nice spot, and I'm hoping she can turn the tables on Thank You Amy from their August meeting with the help of a couple other prompting types who can keep that one honest.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#7 Via Della Spiga Worried the price will wind up being shorter than it really should be for a capable team, but I think he's supposed to be a good fit with this kind of local crew, and he has shown enough versatility to give some confidence that he'll handle the local footing.
#1 Jibilan Think he has a little bit of price appeal here in hopes that he's capable of something better than he showed last out. He likes to race near the pace and was far back early last time out, so I'm wondering if that was truly a representative effort. Still, he needs his best and then some -- ask for a nice price.
#4 Prince of Ayrshire Honest finisher always shows up, and I loved his last when handling a decent enough crew. Makes sense, I'm just more interested in the top pair unless the prices get too out of line between them all.
Race Summary Via Della Spiga has some tracking pace and a couple of OK spying runs on his page and could wake up here with a change of scenery. Not sure this is the deepest local spot we're ever going to see for the level, either.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#7 Jazz Time Girl She was in with better last time out and should appreciate the drop, and if you're willing to forgive her for that try with tougher, the two-back run may have served notice that she was finding form. Leaning hard if the price is right.
#6 Kanazawa She found a nice home at this kind of price and has rattled off two wins in a row. I liked the way she did things last time out and wouldn't be surprised to see her land another.
#1 Raven Dance A lot of them look pretty similar to me in here on overall form and potential, so it's a lean to the top pair in here if anything, but this one looks most interesting of the rest.
Race Summary Jazz Time Girl could be in the right spot at the right time after trying a deeper group last time out, and she seemed to be getting back to something better in the August try before that. I don't trust her a whole lot, but she may be a clever play.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Delaware Park - Race #1
#3 RIBBONSINHERHAIR (5-2) Ness class dropper figures tough on best, but will be an underlay.
#4 JUDITH’S CROSS (10-1) Can carry her speed farther off claim as the lightweight in the field.
#5 MIKEY’S JEWEL (6-1) Returns from Penn National in good form going a route of ground.
Race Summary RIBBONSINHERHAIR’s only win the last two years was in a slow-paced mile in a five-horse field three starts ago. But she just missed in a follow-up sprint at Parx carrying 125 pounds and was fanned out of contention in a one-turn mile at Laurel Park. Bet to win and place and play a 3-4-5 exacta box.
      Delaware Park - Race #4
#3 DAMIR (8-1) New horse of late on turf, moves outside in, seeks repeat upset.
#9 AMERICAN UNITY (2-1) Ultra-consistent form produced eight wins, $187k turf bankroll.
#4 CRABCAKES N BEER (10-1) Carrasco re-claim is 0-5 on turf, but he won 3 of last 7 starts by a neck.
Race Summary DAMIR overcame post 10 and caught CLOUD MUSIC to spring a 34-1 shocker on soft footing. He starts from post 3 in the same spot and can contend again at a generous price. Bet to win and place and play a 3, 9/3, 4, 9/ALL trifecta.
      Delaware Park - Race #9
#4 WHERE’S MY CHEW (6-1) Consistent sprint form shrouded by poor starting habit, worth the price.
#6 HEAVEN’S GOT FIRE (3- Six-figure earner at 6F has good speed, lands in good spot to use it.
#1 LIL SEBASTIAN (8-1) Nearly seized moment after 3-to-5 fave ran into trouble, floated wide, ran second.
Race Summary WHERE’S MY CHEW, plagued by troubled starts at short prices in his last three starts, gets class relief and adds blinkers today. He stalked the pace 6-wide, was hard-ridden on the turn and finished second to the 3-1 winner last out. Bet to win and place.

            Presque Isle Downs - Race #4 - Post: 4:51pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $16,000 Class Rating: 82

            Rating:

            #5 ANCHISES (ML=8/5)
            #3 SAMARITANO (ML=7/2)
            #2 GREY CHARMER (ML=5/1)

ANCHISES - This gelding has been posting some excellent workout times. A wise man taught me to wager on the lone speed horse. Take a look at this thoroughbred. Martinez and Arriagada getting together are a railbird's friend. SAMARITANO - Spieth brings him back again. I advocate you stick with this hot gelding. You have to be keen on that last race speed figure, 85, which is the best most recent race speed rating of this group. This one has increased his speed ratings in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is worth taking notice of. GREY CHARMER - This jock/handler duo has been producing a very positive ROI, right at +27. Coming off a fifth place finish at Presque Isle Downs, some may pass this horse. I'm not. He just missed hitting the show spot, and has decent M/L odds today.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #6 IOYA AGAIN (ML=4/1), #4 ROUND OF APPLAUSE (ML=9/2), #1 ERLAN (ML=8/1),

IOYA AGAIN - Where is the pace? None to be found in here to set things up for this horse. ROUND OF APPLAUSE - This gelding gave a lackluster effort last time. This equine doesn't have a winning state of mind. Quite often finishes in the place or show spot. This closer should have a rough go of it to be along in time with an absence of speed in this race. ERLAN - This come from behinder should have a rough go of it to be along in time with an absence of early speed in this race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #2 GREY CHARMER to win. Have to have odds of at least 6/1 or better though

Race 2 - Maiden Special Weight - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $43520 Class Rating: 77

IND - R6 - FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS. IF THIS RACE IS TAKEN OFF THE TURF, IT WILL BE RUN AT 1 MILE AND 70 YARDS ON THE MAIN TRACK.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 5 ACTIS 7/2
              # 8 PAYTON ABBEY 5/2
              # 12 MORE CARATS 15/1
ACTIS has a quite good shot to take this race. Has performed quite well lately in route races, posting a nifty 70 avg Equibase Speed Fig. PAYTON ABBEY - She has earned solid figs under today's conditions and should fare well versus this group. Must be considered a key contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone.

                Keeneland - Race #9 - Post: 5:16pm - Allowance - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $120,000 Class Rating: 104

                Rating:

                #8 G T FIVE HUNDRED (ML=8/1)
                #10 PURSUITNEVERSLEEPS (ML=7/2)
                #4 DREAMINBLUE (ML=30/1)
                #6 AMOR PATRIAE (ML=12/1)

G T FIVE HUNDRED - I am keen on that last effort on September 10th at Kentucky Downs where he finished second. Horse has improved at least 2 speed rating points in last two races. I look for that positive increase to continue in this event. PURSUITNEVERSLEEPS - This colt's last speed figure notched on Aug 8th is number one in last race Equibase speed figures. DREAMINBLUE - It looks like Morales had to be more familiar with this gelding on August 30th when riding him for the first time. Back atop again today. AMOR PATRIAE - Had a solid closing move last out, running the last quarter in less than 25 seconds. A similar race today, and it's straight to the winner's circle. The addition of the 'hood' should keep his mind on business today.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #7 MULTIVERSE (ML=4/1), #11 VOILA MAGIC (ML=5/1), #12 TRE ITALIANI (ML=6/1),

MULTIVERSE - Today's event is 7 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint affair in the last couple of months. Not the greatest of indicators. VOILA MAGIC - Could be tough for this horse to beat this bunch off of that last speed rating. Improbable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class rating, so put him on the likely underpriced contenders list. TRE ITALIANI - Should probably pass on this youngster, he hasn't had enough experience to win this kind of race. The speed rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's contest. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underpriced contender.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #8 G T FIVE HUNDRED to win if you can get at least 5/1 odds
                EXACTA WAGERS: Box [4,8,10]

                  # 5 MALLEYMOO 7/2
                  # 6 MAXISUPERFLY 30/1
I've got to go with CAIRO STREET and could score at a price in here. She looks formidable in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. Win percentage one of the best in this field. Has been right there on the wire most every time lately. MALLEYMOO - She has decent class ratings, averaging 99, and has to be carefully examined in this event. Is hard not to consider based on Equibase speed figs which have been solid - 95 avg - of late. MAXISUPERFLY - Very strong gamble today with second time Lasix. Has a solid shot in here if you like back class.
