    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#1 Vanilla Cream Not all that enthused about this one, but I do think her baseline is probably supposed to be good enough to handle these, and I wonder if she can bring something just a touch better in this second try at a real route.
#1 Dancing Shadows Stretchout player hasn't shown much yet, but this is not a particularly deep group, and she might appreciate the more leisurely route tempo.
#5 Slainte Mhath Pace has already had a lot of chances, but her better stuff fits well enough here in a spot where her pace should be dangerous again. Always vulnerable late, but this might be the right group for her.
Race Summary Vanilla Cream seems like a good fit here after chasing a runaway winner last time out, and I think even a small move forward from that run might do the job today.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#2 Unbridled Peace Think she might be the right one today with enough pace to be right in the mix into the turn. She's really dangerous when she breaks into a good spot early.
#4 Mitole Magic She got pretty good this season and looks tough on the drop from the local Grade II, but she's not totally unstoppable at this kind of level and might be an underlay today. Lots of respect for her form this season.
#5 Heart Think she's most likely an underneath player here, but her best game might do, and she has just enough tactical pace to try to spy the speed from the outside.
Race Summary Unbridled Peace might be quick enough to find a good spot in this small group, and she is going well enough right now that I think she'll be able to turn away the Grade II dropper a couple stalls further out.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#5 Boogie Woogie She sealed the deal last out after a string of races in which she gave way in late stretch, and she might be the most committed pace player today. Either way, she's up front or attacking the other potential pace on the fence. Can win right back.
#3 Winning Play Reliable form fits well, and she should find a decent spot tracking the pace. Local footing is a question mark, but I bet she'll handle it fine.
#7 Boujie Betz She's honest enough even if she tends to go one-paced in the final yards, and it's not impossible to see a scenario in which she prompts the pace and holds late after inheriting the lead in the lane.
Race Summary Boogie Woogie has some speed on the rise to try winners, and I think she's going to be in the right spot turning for home. Dangerous.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #1
#6 CRUISING GAL (8-1) Best races came from off the pace, other stretch-out sprinters could set her up.
#7 ROYAL PRADO (4-1) Lone three-time winner in field takes on elders off the claim, projects ideal trip.
#8 VICKI VALE (2-1) Won and ran third in prior pair at one mile at the $16,000 level, sheds 7 pounds.
Race Summary CRUISING GAL, one of several stretch out sprinters in this one-mile test, set the pace and tired in a higher-tagged mile three starts ago. But she came from off the pace to earn her top three speed figures, a tactic that could produce an upset run in this spot. Bet to win and place and play a 6,7/6 ,7, 8/ALL trifecta.
      Parx - Race #2
#3 LORD WINSALOT (4-1) Classy 8-year-old knows how to win, so does the barn that claimed him.
#2 LUCKY DUDE (8-5) Ran second twice off the re-claim at 6F, now eligible for this easier condition.
#1 SPEIGHSTER RED (5-2) ‘Winsalot’ stablemate took step back in last pair but can’t be ignored.
Race Summary LORD WINSALOT does win a lot, including three photo-finish victories in his last 11 starts this year. He will have to improve to beat this field and repeat, but he can do so for trainer Michael Pino, who won with 52 of the last 159 horses he claimed. Bet to win and place and play 3-1 and 3-2 exactas.
      Parx - Race #3
#2 FILLED WITH DESIRE (5-1) Met sharp rival in debut, troubled follow-up, goes long with blinks on.
#4 BALA DE PLATA (8-5) Rallied for minor awards in pair of heavily-bet turf sprints, switches to dirt.
#6 KIND OF FOG (9-2) Set pace in two MSW sprints on Saratoga lawn that produced next-out winners.
Race Summary FILLED WITH DESIRE showed a pulse in his debut with a ground-saving mild rally against Tough Guy Tony, who repeated with a wire-to-wire victory in a $100,000 optional claiming race at the expense of the 3-to-5 runner-up. His sire, Kantharos, won the Grade 2 Saratoga Special at 6-1/2F to cap a perfect 2-year-old season. Bet to win and place and play 2-4 and 2-6 exactas.

            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 4 RUNAWAY HARRY 5/2
            # 6 COLONEL POPPY 9/5
            # 3 SACHMO 9/2
I have to support RUNAWAY HARRY here. Could provide positive profits based on formidable recent Speed Figures with an average of 82. Put up a sound Equibase Speed Figure in the latest race. Can run another good one in this race. Has been running in the most competitive company of the group of animals lately. COLONEL POPPY - Looks solid to be on or close to the lead at the first call. With a decent 80 speed figure last time out, will definitely be a factor in this affair. SACHMO - With a solid 75 average Equibase speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. May best this group of horses in this race here, showing quite good figures of late.

              Thistledown - Race #1 - Post: 12:50pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 61

              Rating:

              #4 DIAMONDS N DEW (ML=7/2)
              #5 DANZA MAGIC (ML=9/2)

DIAMONDS N DEW - This animal is at the top in earnings per start. She looks nice in today's event. It is my opinion that fillys run better the second time they get Lasix. Meyers puts this filly on it for the 2nd time today, so give this one a look. DANZA MAGIC - A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a good race is a good omen.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #1 PANAMANIAC (ML=2/1), #7 SPOOKY LITTLE GIRL (ML=3/1), #2 DOLCE MARIE (ML=8/1),

PANAMANIAC - Just don't think she is priced right at the likely odds. SPOOKY LITTLE GIRL - Had a grueling stretch drive on Sep 15th and followed it up with another one. Probably won't see her doing it this time around. If you keep playing these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be frustrated most of the time. DOLCE MARIE - This horse hasn't shown very much in the last two races.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #4 DIAMONDS N DEW on top if we're getting at least 7/5 odds
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [4,5]

                Race 1 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $21000 Class Rating: 62

                # 2 MIKEY'S SONG 7/2
                # 3 MY SPRING SUNSHINE 15/1
ROYAL PRADO has a strong shot to take this race. Has to be carefully examined - I like the figures from the last contest. This filly gets a boost with Rangel in the saddle. Competitive pick to take this race going in a dirt route. MIKEY'S SONG - Looks strong for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in dirt route races recently. Overall, this trainer has been money-making at this distance/surface. MY SPRING SUNSHINE - Truehart has her trained admirably to break rapidly out of the starting gate.

                  Mountaineer Park - Race #3 - Post: 7:50pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 43

                  Rating:

                  #3 THE GROOM'S JUL (ML=3/1)
#2 ALL ROADS TO DENIS (ML=6/1)

THE GROOM'S JUL - Tapara rode this thoroughbred for the first time last race out and comes right back today. The rest of the bunch may trail this horse all the way around the track. ALL ROADS TO DENIS - That last workout tells me this gelding is set for a top race. This gelding is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Ewell.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #6 JONAS HILL ROAD (ML=1/1), #5 ZENITH'S STRETCH (ML=9/2),

JONAS HILL ROAD - If you keep selecting these sort of 'hanger' types, you're going to be frustrated most of the time. ZENITH'S STRETCH - Finished sixth last time. Would have to advance to land in the top three in today's race. No picnic to wager on any animal in a short distance race at 9/2 when he hasn't shown any positive results in sprints in the last 60 days.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 THE GROOM'S JUL is going to be the play if we are getting 2/1 or better
