Jeremy Plonk: Price Players in Keeneland's $88K Carryover Pick 6

    October 23, 2025 | By Jeremy Plonk

Thursday at Keeneland features a pick 6 carryover of $88,864 on Races 4-9 as well as a super high 5 carryover of $42,810 in the finale. I've got a couple of price plays that could help blow up the pick 6.

    Keeneland | Race 5 | 3:08 pm ET
#8 Paseo (20-1 morning line odds) has a big chance to leap forward in her second career start. She finished with some late interest over a shorter distance in her debut and has a pedigree to relish the Keenland turf course in her first local venture. Workouts indicate she's sitting on a big try. Win-place bet #8. Exacta key-box 8 with 1,9,10. Daily Double 8-2 to next pick.

    Keeneland | Race 6 | 3:40 pm ET
#2 Wizard of Yester (12-1 morning line odds) might control this race from the outset from an inner post draw that's advantageous for his running style. He could improve in his first start for trainer Joe Sharp after leaving an outfit that had only won 5% on the year (Sharp is at 22%). Win-place bet #2. Exacta box 2-3 with likely favorite Antietam.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #2
#5 Spirited Sol He hasn't won in some time, but I love how honest he is and how often he's able to outrun his price on the board. I think he's lost on the tote again with another great spying trip in store. Would love to see him get over the top on Closing Day.
#7 Going Up He handled the to choice last out, but I'm hoping the addition of a little bit more early play from Diamond Dust might make the forward battle just a touch tougher this time around?
#6 Scoot Daddy He might be worth another look over the local footing if you draw a line through that try here in July when he didn't show up at all. Could be sneaky here with some rebound form from Finger Lakes.
Race Summary Spirited Sol should get a great run of things behind a couple of pace players he tracked last time out, including Going Up, who has had his number this season.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#7 Virtuosity Pace scenario is a bit murky with some turnback players and a couple of forward types who aren't all that committed to the front. This guy has flashed enough tactical pace going shorter than this to think his rider should be able to pick his spot up or near the top as they sort themselves out through the first furlong. Edge in competitive race.
#1 War Officer He has been finishing from off the pace in route spots, so he's going to need to avoid getting outrun in the early stages, but his better stuff fits here.
#3 Pedro Nunes Think there are a couple excuses on his page from just three starts in the States, and he's probably going to like the switch to a synthetic surface today. Wouldn't argue too hard with you -- he has a lot of similarities to the top choice.
Race Summary Virtuosity and Pedro Nunes have the style I want in this spot, but I think the former gets the right draw to watch things unfold early on and choose a spot up top.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#3 Jazz Time Girl That comeback race earlier this season gave me enough hope that she was going to get back to the 2024 form at some point, but it hasn't happened yet. Despite that, it felt like she showed a little bit of life last time out before flattening late, and I'm willing to give her one more price look from close range.
#9 Kanazawa Considered her on top with some pace in a spot without a ton of serious early burn, and to be honest, I don't really have any concerns with her. Guessing she's going to be right there.
#2 Make a Million She might dunk on this bunch while getting back down in class around one turn, but I also wanted to see something just a bit better from her when trying this level two starts back. I dunno....but her better stuff would do.
Race Summary Last of the season here, and I wonder if Jazz Time Girl can find some of her better form today after making a mild move last out. The race flow might work in her favor if she can get away cleanly and try to show some of that tracking pace she has been lacking in recent starts -- would put her right in behind Kanazawa at the turn in.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Woodbine - Race #1
#7 BEACH READY (8-1) Gets class relief, could be in play early off prior turf route form, price attached.
#2 MIZZEN ASH (4-1) Rallied for a win, a second and two thirds in her last five starts on turf.
#6 RETAIL THERAPIST (5-2) Six-figure earner on the lawn was ‘resilient’ in recent win at this level.
Race Summary BEACH READY is ready for a surface change after she was no factor in a pair of sprints on Woodbine’s Tapeta track. She raced closer to the pace going a route of ground on the Gulfstream Park lawn and could revert to those tactics in here for a trainer-jockey combo that has three turf victories at the meet. Bet to win and place and play 7-2 and 7-6 exactas.
        Woodbine - Race #3
#3 CONQUER THE STORM (12-1) Slowed by pace and wide trip, longshot stab in crowded field.
#2 SUNNYVILLE (6-1) Finished second three times for higher tags in five starts with Hoyte aboard.
#11 PAT’S HOLLIDAY (5-2) Continues to burn serious money, moves inside out for new connections.
Race Summary CONQUER THE STORM ‘continued to edge up’ while 5-wide on the final turn in the same spot last out, but she finished out of the money. She should benefit from a livelier pace in a 12-horse field while wearing blinkers for the third time. Bet to win and place and play a 2-3-11 exacta box.
        Woodbine - Race #5
#4 PADRAIG (12-1) Worked in 1:00-3/5 since chasing a fast pace in his troubled debut.
#1 SPIKEPHIL (6-1) Full brother to stakes-placed 2yo Sunsprite, barn can get ‘em ready.
#7 TOTAL SENSATION (2-1) Steady 60-plus Beyers on several surfaces translate well in this field.
Race Summary PADRAIG, bumped and steadied in a fast-paced 6-1/2F sprint, takes off the blinkers for his second start. He shows a fastest-of-36 workout at 5F since his debut and that puts him on upset alert today. Bet to win and place and play a 1-4-7 exacta box.

              # 2 TANYA SHOWERS 3/1
SAM'S TREASURE is tough to overlook as the wager in here. This filly with Ortiz in the saddle makes her a key contender. The Equibase speed fig of 92 from her last contest looks solid in here. Has to be given a shot here on the basis of the figs in the speed realm alone. CARESS - She has a good opportunity here as trainer, Weaver, has solid win rate with horses going this distance. Ought to come out sharp - I have liked the way this filly has moved speedily to the lead recently. TANYA SHOWERS - Has very good speed figs and has to be considered for a bet in this race. Change in Lasix (with second time Lasix) may be the means to a comeback.

                Presque Isle Downs - Race #7 - Post: 6:12pm - Allowance - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $38,000 Class Rating: 93

                Rating:

                #2 RECYCLE (ML=8/1)
                #3 PEDRO NUNES (ML=9/2)
                #6 SCHNITTKER (ML=7/2)

RECYCLE - Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. Lets try to beat the morning-line favorites with this gelding. Just missed last out, but ran a respectable race. PEDRO NUNES - This colt is in first-rate physical condition right now. Finished third last race out and comes back soon. SCHNITTKER - Strong win percentage this rider and trainer tandem have been putting together. This gelding is almost always in the money. Ran a speedy time for the last quarter on Sep 29th at Presque Isle Downs. Anything close in this race should get the job done. Morales and his horse make quite a pair. Together they've been winning at a clip of 67 percent.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #1 WAR OFFICER (ML=5/2), #7 VIRTUOSITY (ML=4/1), #8 I'M NO ANGEL (ML=8/1),

WAR OFFICER - Usually I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance affairs in order to play him. This gelding hasn't been getting the job done as the favorite. VIRTUOSITY - This less than sharp equine ran a common speed fig in the last race. He shouldn't run much better and will probably suffer defeat in today's race running that number. I'M NO ANGEL - Finished fourth last time. Would have to perk up to be there at the wire in today's race. Registered a most unsatisfactory speed rating last time out in an Allowance race on Oct 9th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that number.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 RECYCLE to win if you can get odds of 9/2 or more

CUPID'S RUNAWAY looks very good to best this field. Overall the speed figures of this racer look quite good in this race. Has ran soundly in dirt sprint races. Had one of the most competitive speed figures of this group in his last affair. GOLDEN HORNET - Put up a very good speed rating last time out. Is difficult not to examine based on speed figs which have been solid - 81 avg - of late. ZAPPINIT - His 83 average has this gelding with among the best Equibase Speed Figures in this race. Looks very good for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in dirt sprint races lately.

                    Hawthorne - Race #1 - Post: 2:43pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,250 Class Rating: 62

                    Rating:

                    #2 MY LAST ESCAPADE (ML=3/1)

MY LAST ESCAPADE - Felix and Slager partnered with one another are a horseplayer's friend. He finished second October 9th, but was well clear of the show horse. Taking a trip down in class; has the class to make his presence felt. Earnings per start (EPS) is something that I feel can be a very key handicapping aspect. This animal is ranked at the top of the list in this field. This thoroughbred coming off a solid race in the last month is a contender in my opinion.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 JACKSON'S BUDDY (ML=2/1), #5 BLACK RUSSIAN (ML=7/2), #3 LUCKY SEVEN (ML=9/2),

JACKSON'S BUDDY - I don't normally play a morning-line choice that hasn't been to the track in the last few weeks. This gelding earned a fig in his last race which probably isn't good enough in today's event. BLACK RUSSIAN - A bit of a less than stellar performance when this horse finished fourth. LUCKY SEVEN - The speed figure last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a likely underlay.
