Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    October 27, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-JumpingJackMac N (2-1)-The Dilloian trainee has made only 10 starts this year and is looking for its first win. Not loving the short price and not sure how much leaving from the rial will help. But gets needed class relief in a race where the program chalk starts in the 6 hole and is stepping up.
6-Nandolo N (9/5)-Faces better for its 3rd straight but the last 2 wins came when starting inside. Jason Bartlett sticks and he will look to grind his way to the lead in a field without much depth.
7-Whichwaytothebeach (12-1)-Left from the 2 hole last time versus this kind and came a good 2nd to a well meant Raced better than the line looked and starting outside does help the price. Is well worth a swing at 12-1. This will be the 3rd start in town and the 3rd race in the Alexander barn. Hopefully, the morning line odds hold up, and Matt Kakaley provides a sharp steer.

    Race 8 (9:05 Pm EDT)

3-Desperate Man (3-1)-This will be the first start since 9-13 and qualified with a good effort at PcD on 10-15. This is another Travis Alexander entry and that barn has been clicking. The classy veteran s/b in the mix at the wire if tight enough.
5-Jamaican Rock A (9/5)-Was used early in last and couldn’t finish off the mile but was off 3 weeks between races. Now Bartlett gets the call, that’s a positive driver change and this pilot had a recent 4 race win streak with the Scott Blackler entry.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

3-Windsun Ricky (2-1)-Program favorite comes off a gate to wire win and now bumps up. Could double up if gets an uncontested lead, but not sure that will happen. Will rely on Brent Holland to push the button at the right time against a field that for the most part has trouble winning.
6-Curly James (7/2)-Aussie invader makes its Yonkers debut and drew off by over 6 lengths in 154.3 with a .28 last panel in its qualifier. Did qualify on Lasix and Per Engblom’s top call driver Jason Bartlett will do the steering. So will respect chances of this being a winning debut.

    Race 10 9:45 PM EDT)

2-Printivlle (5-1)-Recent form on the team Stratton entry is dull but has been stuck with posts 6-7-8-8 in the last 4 races. Faces a beatable field and its best performances happen when the 4-year-old gets a good early seat and races with the leaders. That's the trip is probably coming tonight.
3-Smiffy's Terror N (2-1)-Makes the 2nd start after being on the bench for over 3 months. Put in an even start last week and had good speed. This looks like an opportunity to get the top and go gate to wire, and Austin Siegelman could be thinking the same.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,6,7/3,5/3,6/2,3
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#5 Emoji Time I liked the winner of his last earlier on the card, and he draws well to flash some prompting pace from out here. Something like the last one might do.
#1 Plum Tuff Bit worried that the top choice is going to be hassling him the whole way, and he's not really known for putting up a huge fight when passed. Seems all or nothing from the fence.
#2 Lordbetwentothorns Tactical pace might be in the right kind of spot to land this turning for home, but he's been a bit one-paced late in his races, and I worry that he's going to flatten out late and settle underneath again.
Race Summary Emoji Time might get the right kind of attacking run today while forcing the rail pace the whole way, and that may lead to him inheriting the lead in the lane. Think there's enough to like here.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #2
#4 Affair to Remember Never mad when a horse breaks through like that last one, taking a step forward and easily dispatching a group to graduate. Think he'll get an OK run of things again today.
#5 Ol' Nelson He's no sure thing to stay, but he's not meeting a ton of other really serious early burn, so there's a chance he turns for home and finds something left in the tank.
#1 Bigpiclittlepic Reliable tactical type has been snagging a lot of underneath shares, but that kind of form probably keeps him in the frame again for at least a piece.
Race Summary Affair to Remember took some time to graduate, but he punched home with authority last time out as the 4/5 chalk -- something like that run seems in line with what it might take to win right back.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#9 General Winston He brings a pretty steady string of synthetic races with him to this Ohio-bred spot, and I bet he's going to be a good fit with this group while rising with intention off the claim.
#8 Wetzel He has run into some tougher crews than he's going to find here today, but I worry that he's going to take some cash in a spot where I think you can make an OK case for a few of them.
#1 Indian Fever He moved clear in the lane before just flattening out in the comeback run around two turns, but that should have him a bit tighter this time around while getting another good trip near the top.
Race Summary General Winston has some appeal here while trying the local crew with some decent enough Presque Isle form on his page, and I like that he got a timed spin over the track here.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#1 GET LIKE MIKE (3-1) Upgrade from second-place finishes likely while racing for this ‘Mike.’
#6 DARVESH (6-1) Looked like winner turning for home but was no match for onrushing favorite.
#7 PRIME MOTIVE (2-1) Sat golden trip, split dueling leaders to finish second under strong urging.
Race Summary There’s some things to not like about GET LIKE MIKE, namely a voided vet claim three months ago, four runner-up finishes in a row at mostly short prices and a 0-for-5 record at today’s distance. But the dialogue changes in his first start for trainer Michael Pino, who is on fire with new acquisitions. Bet to win and place.
        Parx - Race #5
#7 LUCCHESI (6-1) Can stalk and pounce on projected lively pace if ready for first start since June.
#4 COJECO PA TI (7-2) Good first gear, faces front-end pressure despite class drop.
#6 DEPOLI (8-1) Poor record at Parx but good enough form and running style to use in gimmicks.
Race Summary LUCCHESI should sit a dream trip in his bid for a repeat victory. The four-month layoff is a concern, but his off-the-pace style is well-suited with plenty of speed to his inside. Bet to win and place and play 7-4, 7-5 and 7-6 exactas.
        Parx - Race #7
#9 FULL IRISH (7-2) Plagued by slow starts, burning serious money along the way, gets one more chance.
#7 CARBONITE (5-1) Winless looooong time, looks to continue improved form since entering this barn.
#2 UP AGAINST IT (5-2) Dull try in latest, eligible for this spot by four days, plenty of back-class to summon.
Race Summary FULL IRISH spotted the field several lengths with another troubled break, was unhurried to the top of the stretch and found his best stride way too late to catch the front-end runaway as the 1-to-2 favorite. He returns two months later after a voided vet claim and remains the one to beat if he gets away cleanly. Bet to win and place and play a 2-7-9 exacta box.

              Race 10 - Trial - 400y on the Dirt. Purse: $5000 Class Rating: 77

QUARTER HORSE 400Y, FOR TWO-YEAR-OLD COLTS AND GELDINGS WHICH WERE NOMINATED AND REMAIN ELIGIBLE FOR THESE TRIALS. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. FINALISTS MUST PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL NEGATIVE HAIR TEST PRIOR TO ENTERING IN THE FINAL.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 9 SWIG OF A PRIZE 20/1
              # 5 TOOTOOT THE CARTEL 10/1
              # 1 TUX HARD SHOP 4/1
I've got to go with SWIG OF A PRIZE particularly if the morning line of 20/1 holds. Will probably be one of the front-runners of the pack going into the midpoint of the outing. With a strong jockey who has won at a solid 21 percent rate over the last month. This has to be one of the top picks. TUX HARD SHOP - Looks very strong for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in short races recently. Has to be given consideration based on the very strong Equibase speed fig garnered in the last outing.

                Mountaineer Park - Race #6 - Post: 9:05pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 72

                Rating:

                #7 WEDDING MARCH (ML=7/2)

WEDDING MARCH - Trainer Clouston moves this thoroughbred down the class ladder to face a lower class field. Look for a good performance in this race. This front runner is running a shorter distance today. Should aid her chances of winning. Have to like the early speed on this one. No one else may even be close. This jockey and trainer are consistent together. Win pct when teamed up is difficult to one up. I like this filly. Has the uppermost (EPS) earnings per start in this one. Look for this filly to run a lot better in this race. Last event at Horseshoe Indianapolis finishing ninth on a sloppy track is no indication of her true ability. Popular angle - 3rd or 4th start after a layoff generally leads to a big effort. Going to run a good one.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #8 BLANK SPACE BABY (ML=5/2), #3 CALCETINES (ML=4/1), #1 FRIENDLY LUCY (ML=4/1),

BLANK SPACE BABY - This probable favorite ran on Sep 26th and hasn't had a workout since then. CALCETINES - This mount hasn't shown much in the last pair of affairs. FRIENDLY LUCY - The speed rating in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a questionable contender.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #7 WEDDING MARCH on the nose if you can get odds of 1/1 or more
                EXACTA WAGERS: 7 with 6

                  Rating:

                  #1 GET LIKE MIKE (ML=3/1)

GET LIKE MIKE - My experience tells me to be ready for this horse in this race

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 PRIME MOTIVE (ML=2/1), #2 RIVER'S GAMBLE (ML=5/1), #6 DARVESH (ML=6/1),

PRIME MOTIVE - I don't normally play a favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last 3 weeks. RIVER'S GAMBLE - Doesn't look inspiring to me after the lack of any kind of closing ability on October 20th. This gelding is always in the mix, but just doesn't win. Difficult to wager on him on the win end. DARVESH - This entrant has not finished first here today in 10 starts. Little chance he wins today. This gelding earned a speed figure in his last race which probably isn't good enough in today's race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #1 GET LIKE MIKE to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 10 KOZY NIGHT 12/1
                    # 1 MOBIL MEMORY 9/2
                    # 11 ANGEL I'M NOT 6/1
My choice in this competition is KOZY NIGHT especially at 12/1. Ranked high in earnings per start at the distance/surface in this lot. The Equibase Speed Figure of 62 from her most recent affair looks solid in here. MOBIL MEMORY - Overall the Equibase Speed Figs of this pony look very strong in this race. The twosome of Rivera/Radosevich has one of the best ROI percentages in this field. ANGEL I'M NOT - This filly has a good win percentage in dirt sprint races. Always hard to beat Cline and Bracho working together, winning 31 percent of their races.
