Ron Nicoletti: Gulfstream $111K Carryover Pick 6 Mandatory Payout

    November 2, 2025 | By 1/ST BET

Gulfstream Park's Rainbow 6 has a mandatory payout Sunday with a carryover $111,271 in play. Local racing analyst Ron Nicoletti takes you through the sequence.

RACE 6: 11 PIQUANT is dropping to the $25,000 level after returning from the two-month freshening to finish a screw tightening fifth vs allowance runners on Tapeta. His late-striding victory on the turf during June points him out as the one to fear in a race stocked with speed. 3 RASHID, who used his speed to win consecutive turf races during his summer campaign, returns to the grass after finishing second vs a notch tougher going around two turns on the Tapeta. He’s a major player with the rail set at 66 feet. 7 CORTA FUEGO is stretching out to a mile and a sixteenth after having to steady late when finishing second going a mile last out. Saffie Joseph Jr has Edgard Zayas returning on the gelded son of Divisidero (Kitten’s Joy). SELECTIONS: 11-3-7

RACE 7: 8 CLEAN WINNER is stretching out to 6 1/2 furlongs after chasing the pace and finishing a useful fifth in his six-furlong debut at Aqueduct. Trainer Kelly Breen is 6 for 15 (40%) with maidens making the second start and 21% overall with his freshman runners. 7 CURLEY SUE is cutting back after opening and surrendering a two-length lead when finishing second in her seven-furlong debut. Jose D’Angelo has Leonel Reyes stop the $350,000 daughter of Curlin, who is the one to fear. 1 WANDER WOMAN is debuting locally after the pair of chase and weaken outings sprinting vs restricted maiden special weight runners at Saratoga. Tareq Moubarak has Jonathan Ocasio handling the daughter of Blame. SELECTIONS: 8-7-1

RACE 8: 10 DRUM ROLL moves to the Bobby Dibona barn after holding on to defeat $20,000 claimers going a mile last out. Mr Dibona, 26% with new claims, has leading jockey Miguel Vazquez atop the three-time turf winner (9-3-2-1). 1 WORLD TRAVELER is hoping to travel farther after vying for the lead and settling for third place finish behind Drum Roll when they hooked up at a mile last out. Edgard Zayas gets the riding assignment. 5 MORE THAN GLORY is a consistent sort and the type you want to add to your trifecta and superfecta ticket. Laura Cazares has Jose Morelos trying to grab a share.

RACE 9: 3 ICELANDER, 2 for 2 in the money on the main track, returns to the dirt after coming off the bench and running into Tapeta star Rezarolex in a $35,000 starter optional claimer going 5 1/2 furlongs on the all weather surface. 6 LOU THE BODY is cutting back to 6 1/2 furlongs after getting tagged late when going seven furlongs in the slop. Trainer Dan Hurtak has Rajiv Maragh atop the consistent son of Violence (8 4-3-0). 5 TSHIEBEWE is dropping into a competitive spot for the hot Jose Castro barn that is 7 for 26 at the meeting thus far. The gelding has speed and aggressive rider Emisael Jaramillo added to the mix. SELECTIONS: 3-6-5

RACE 10: THE EMPIRE BUILDER 2 PREVENT is cutting back to a mile after setting the pace and finishing fifth behind this familiar competition going a mile and a sixteenth on the grass. The shorter distance and the rail set at 66 feet, earns the son of Neolithic the call. 12 PRIVATE THOUGHTS, a winner of three consecutive races, breaks from the ultra-demanding outside post when going a mile on the GP turf, which moves him to the second spot. Put this son of Neolithic on the top of the list if there’s some scratches to his inside. 5 RELAMPAGO VERDE, a previous winner at the distance, turns back after coming within a head of catching likely favorite Private Thoughts last out. Bobby Dibona has Miguel Vazquez up. SELECTIONS: 2-12-5

RACE 11: 5 ABUELO is freefalling to the $12,500 level and returning to the Tapeta after facing maiden special weight competition on the Kentucky Downs turf. Saffie has Micha Husbands overseeing the biggest drop in racing. 4 SHACE SLOANE is dropping to the bottom after posting speed figures good enough to defeat this group before going to the sidelines in August. The zero for 11 record is an obvious concern. 3 LEROY BROWN comes off back-to-back third place finishes at this level, and it can be deja vu all over again. SELECTIONS: 5-4-3

    BEST BET: RACE 6 – 11 PIQUANT

    LONGSHOT: RACE 10 -2 PREVENT

Al Cimaglia: Rosecroft Raceway Potomac Pace Analysis

      November 2, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Rosecroft Raceway has a 13-race card with the feature coming in Race 11, the Potomac Pace Invitational with a $125,000 purse. It has a solid field of 8 older pacers as 7 of the veterans saw action on Breeders Crown night. The Potomac Pace is the signature event at the "Raceway by the Beltway."

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 11-Potomac Pace Invitational-Purse $125,000 (5:20 PM EDT)

1-Coaches Corner (7/2)-The Per Engblom trainee has a grabbed my attention in big races this year. The veteran always competes and that includes times when the post draws have been bad. Jason Bartlett has had a great year, and it is well deserved. Drawing the rail here is not a disadvantage but to protect it in the early going may drain its tank a bit. This is a major player and will be used on my exacta tickets.

2-Captian Luke (8-1)-The Andrew Harris trainee is more of a big track horse and does have good speed. If the pace falls apart Dan Dube could be rolling late to pick up the pieces. But doesn't have the early speed of others and could be too far back at the top of the stretch.

3-Ruthless Hanover (10-1)-The 2024 runner-up gets a chance to cash the top check with this post draw. Last year, left from the 8-hole into opening fractions of 25.4 and 54.1, which probably cost the win. Did get the top but Abuckabett came out of the pocket to win. There is big gate speed in this contest, and this horse may have the best early speed. That was on display in an Invite on BC Day, but couldn't seal the deal on the engine after fractions of 26.1-53.4-120.2. Driver Tim Tetrick could take a picture with the Tom Cancelliere price shot if he provides a sharp steer. This will be my exacta key, and hopefully the 10-1 morning line holds up.

4-Oakwood Ardan IR (5-1)-This 6-year-old is similar to Captain Luke but has one of the best small track drivers in Jordan Stratton at the controls. This is the 3rd start off the bench and would need big improvement to hit the board in its RcR debut.

5-Abuckabett Hanover (12-1)-No disrespect meant to the 2024 Pace winner but cashing the top check this time does not appear realistic. What a difference a year makes but Father Time always wins, it's just a matter of when. This season, beating Open class horses has happened for the 7-year-old but the water seems too deep here in its current form.

6-Nijinsky (5/2)-Drew the 8-hole in the BC Final, and was too far back early on. The half went in 53.4 and the Anthony Beaton pupil rolled the back half in .52 and could only manage a 5th place finish. Dexter Dunn gets the nod tonight, and he has options, as the 4-year-old has good tactical speed. This is another who will be used in my exactas. Makes its 1st start at RcR and will rely on there not being any issues with the turns.

7-Voukefalas (15-1)-The good news is the meets leading driver, Russell Foster will be at the controls but that is where the good new ends. Post 7 is a killer and not sure there will be a way for the Lazarus 5-year-old to get into striking range to win. But those playing gimmicks may want to consider using at the bottom of Tri's and Superfectas.

8-Maximus Miki (3-1)-Miki showed up in a big way this year when the large money was on the line. The veteran wouldn't be my 2nd morning line favorite, but deserves respect. Does know how to win (14-5-2-2) in 2025 having banked over $543,00 and that leads the field. If the fractions are sizzling Scott Zeron could roll by foes down the lane.

      $10 Win-3 Total Bet=$10

      $6 Exacta 1,6/3 Total Bet=$12

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Del Mar - Race #3
#1 Track Tiger Think there are a few different main players in this cast, but this one has some pace to use from the fence while trying turf for the first time. In the mix.
#3 Cactus Charlie Feel like one of these two will land it, as he brings some reliable form and has already proven himself on the lawn. Tactical speed should have the run of the race.
#4 Sands of Time Firster debuts in a race with some decent -- but unspectacular -- form, and that might make him worth a look on the tote and track ahead of this. Some appeal at this kind of trip.
Race Summary Track Tiger and Cactus Charlie should get forward trips here, but I think the former might offer a bit better price with some upside on the turf. #2 Diaghilev has some appeal, too, but I don't know how in the weeds I want to be in this race.
        Del Mar - Race #8
#3 Wolf Hill Surely not the deepest race you'll ever see for this level, and I wonder if her fresh face might be just what it takes to land this. Seems to be working forwardly enough to chase early?
#2 Mimi's Memory She could be tough here if she shows that speed again, as she's not meeting a whole lot of dangerous pace on paper. Dangerous if none of the new players keep her honest.
#5 Debby's Gal Tactical speed was in the frame with Mimi's Memory last time out and makes sense right back. Class line from the debut came back OK as the winner landed a small share in the Breeders' Cup Friday.
Race Summary Wolf Hill might be quick enough to keep tabs on Mimi's Memory early on while going first time out, and maybe the other listed pair will command just enough cash to keep the price fair up top?
        Del Mar - Race #9
#8 Tigerhorn He's meeting a decent bit of speed and pressing pace in here, so he might wind up getting a perfect kind of finishing trip. Settles back and watches it unfold before reeling them in?
#7 Re Armed Jon He'll get a bit of a class test, but there has been nothing wrong with his first two races -- both easy turf sprint scores. He draws well to avoid taking the worst of the pace early, but I think he's in for a battle. Fun to learn a bit more about what he's made of today.
#2 Afternoon Nap I was really disappointed in the run last time out and thought he would should a little bit more enthusiasm late. Still, he should be in another good spot turning for home, and he wouldn't be a real surprise.
Race Summary Tigerhorn should get a fair setup today with at least three of four runners with some legit speed/press potential, and I think his late kick will get him over the top.

              Mountaineer Park - Race #8 - Post: 9:55pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,000 Class Rating: 70

              Rating:

              #6 TRAUMARAMA (ML=12/1)
              #9 TAKE WINGS (ML=5/2)
              #4 BANK BUSTER (ML=20/1)
              #7 AGENDA (ML=4/1)

TRAUMARAMA - This clash sets up for this mare. I call this the 'Lone Stalker' scenario. When the real running starts, she'll be in the 'garden' spot. A big drop in Equibase class figure points from her September 22nd race at Presque Isle Downs. Based on that knowledge, I will give this animal the edge. Carrying 7 pounds less this race. Trainer has her in a good spot. TAKE WINGS - After the contest aboard this equine on Oct 12th, the jockey is going to be acquainted with the filly much better. Faced tougher in the last race at Mountaineer Park. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this animal on my list of strong contenders. Langley has this mount running well coming into today. Three strong speed figures in most recent events make me say this animal is the one to beat today. BANK BUSTER - Jock hops up aboard after getting to know the race horse by riding in the last race. That's always a good sign. Witherow drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more handicapping knowledge to think this animal should have a chance to win at this level. Ran a less than stellar race at Mountaineer Park in the last race. Racing under better track conditions puts this mare at the top of my contenders roll call. AGENDA - This mare is in good form. Ended up second on October 8th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 MISS TENA MARIE (ML=2/1), #3 MY JO JO (ML=6/1), #10 REVENUE TRAIN (ML=8/1),

MISS TENA MARIE - Hasn't raced or had any morning activity since September 19th. Not much value on this morning-line choice. MY JO JO - Last raced on October 8th at Mountaineer Park, finishing third. Not likely to get better off of that outing in today's event. The speed figure last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a vulnerable competitor. REVENUE TRAIN - This animal just hasn't looked ready lately. This racer ran a mediocre speed rating last time out. She shouldn't improve and will likely suffer defeat today running that figure.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #6 TRAUMARAMA on top if we're getting at least 9/2 odds

                # 2 FLORIBUNDA 10/1
                # 5 MORE THAN GLORY 8/1
DRUM ROLL looks to be a very strong contender. She has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the best in this field. Has a very solid record at the distance and surface, which makes me give my vote to this mare. Garnered a strong speed fig in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. FLORIBUNDA - With Jaramillo getting the mount, watch out for this racer. Going in a turf route race gives this filly a decent shot. MORE THAN GLORY - When Cazares uses Morelos there's a good chance for winnings. Should definitely be given a shot in this race if only for the strong Equibase Speed Fig put up in the last outing.

Race 4 - Maiden Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $10000 Class Rating: 23

FOR NATIVE MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 116 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $14,000.
                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 3 PERFIL FALSO 5/2
                  # 4 ESCARPELO 10/1
                  # 1 AGRADECIDO 10/1
PERFIL FALSO is the top bet in this race. Pastrana should be able to get this filly to break out quickly for this event. This lot is much less demanding than the last one she ran against. Have to bet on this filly with the formidable earnings per start in dirt sprint events. ESCARPELO - Appears to be the type to be helped with second time Lasix here. This colt looks good for this event since Lisboa has a very strong win percentage with horses going this distance.

                    Del Mar - Race #3 - Post: 1:31pm - Maiden Special - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $60,000 Class Rating: 89

                    Rating:

                    #5 SAHARIAN (ML=12/1)
                    #3 CACTUS CHARLIE (ML=5/2)
                    #2 DIAGHILEV (ML=5/1)
                    #1 TRACK TIGER (ML=3/1)

SAHARIAN - Mullins has a very solid win percent in turf sprints. This gelding should be in shape and ready to win. You'll be generating money right and left by turning your bankroll onto this jock/conditioner combination. This gelding has higher odds on the morning line than the other entrant from the stable of Mullins. Better be wary of this angle. CACTUS CHARLIE - Miller brings him right back. I advocate you stick with this hot colt. I like the hard fact that this colt's last rating, 84, is tops in this field. PP data show this thoroughbred with three improving Equibase speed figures. Gonzalez should be on a live horse today. DIAGHILEV - When Rispoli and Mandella join forces on horses the win percent has been tremendous at 31. Based on workouts, I look for this colt to run a big race. Just missed hitting the board on Oct 12th at Santa Anita. With respectable morning odds in today's race, he has my interest. A definite class advantage goes to this horse. To me, that's a good indication he will be very competitive in this race on the turf. TRACK TIGER - I have to believe that today's shorter trip should help this colt. This colt has been training well, and the recent bullet work says he's primed for a big race today.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #8 CHARLIE'S CURLIN (ML=6/1), #6 CHAPTER ONE (ML=6/1), #7 HOOSICK FALLS (ML=8/1),

CHARLIE'S CURLIN - This colt hasn't had any positive efforts in short distance races in the last couple months. When examining today's class rating, he will have to register a better fig than last time around the track to be competitive in this turf sprint. CHAPTER ONE - This colt finished out of the money on August 16th and wasn't near the winner last race out either. Generally I need a sprinter to have some success lately in sprint races in order to back him. HOOSICK FALLS - This colt finished outside the top 3 on Aug 8th and wasn't even close in the last race either. Will be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this bunch off of that last speed rating. Improbable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's Equibase class figure, so put him on the likely underlays list.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #5 SAHARIAN on the win end if we get at least 9/2 odds
EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,5] Box [2,5]
                    TRIFECTA WAGERS: Skip
                    SUPERFECTA WAGERS: None
